The broadest current way to play the series is KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]. Released October 8, 2026, it combines the main modern collections for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The official collection page also lists Steam and Epic Games Store availability. On the original Nintendo Switch, the releases remain Cloud versions rather than native software, so your network connection and regional cloud service support matter.
This guide explains what each edition contains, how to choose a platform, what the physical release requires, and how Switch Cloud save transfers work. Prices, download sizes, regional availability, and detailed performance specifications are not consistently established in the current official listings, so check your local store before buying.

What is included in Collection [I~III]?
HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
This bundle contains KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX. It also includes HD movie compilations for 358/2 Days and Re:coded.
The two movie entries are important to understand before you buy: they are presented as HD cutscene compilations, not fully playable remasters. They let you follow those stories without adding two complete playable campaigns to the collection.
HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
This bundle includes the HD version of Dream Drop Distance, the χ Back Cover film, and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –.

The third bundle includes Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind downloadable content. Because Re Mind is included, the collection is the straightforward route for someone who wants the third numbered game and its major story expansion together.
How to play on a Windows PC
Choose a PC storefront
Windows players have three officially signposted routes: Microsoft Store on Windows, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The announcement establishes the Windows release, while the collection product page links to the Steam and Epic listings. Store catalogs can differ by country, so search for the exact KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] title in the storefront you use.
Install the collection
- Open Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store on your Windows PC.
- Search for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] and confirm that the listing includes the three bundles named above.
- Check the edition, language information, and regional availability shown by your store.
- Purchase the digital edition and install it through the storefront’s normal library or downloads page.
- Launch the collection from that same launcher. Keep the launcher account you used for purchase available when you reinstall or move to another PC.
The current official material does not establish a universal PC price, download size, frame-rate target, resolution, or hardware requirement. Do not assume that a listing in one country has the same price or availability in another; the store page for your region is the authority for those details.
Is Kingdom Hearts on Steam?
Yes. SQUARE ENIX’s official collection page links to a Steam listing for Collection [I~III]. Availability and the exact product configuration can vary by region, so confirm the listing before completing the purchase. Steam is a storefront choice, not a different story package: the collection’s three bundles are the same core content described by the publisher.

How to play on PlayStation
PS5: the current native collection
On PS5, search the PlayStation Store for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]. A physical PS5 edition is also listed by SQUARE ENIX. Both routes are intended for the current collection, which combines 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind.
- Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5, or insert the physical PS5 release.
- For a digital purchase, verify that the product page names Collection [I~III], not an older individual bundle.
- Install the collection and any prompted updates or additional data.
- Start with the first collection in the series order if you are new: 1.5+2.5, then 2.8, then III + Re Mind.
The physical version requires an internet connection to download additional data. The publisher does not state the download’s size or specify the conditions for later offline use, so do not treat the disc as a completely self-contained installation.
What about PS4?
Previous PS4 versions of the collections are referenced in SQUARE ENIX’s eligibility information. They are separate from the new PS5 Collection [I~III]. If you already own a PS4 collection, review the current regional store terms to see whether an upgrade or purchase discount applies; eligibility depends on the specific digital edition and territory.
How to play on Xbox
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series X|S is one of the platforms announced for the native Collection [I~III]. Find the collection in the Microsoft Store on your console, verify the three included bundles, and install it through your Xbox library after purchase.
- Open Microsoft Store on Xbox Series X or Series S.
- Search for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III].
- Read the product description to confirm that 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind are included.
- Buy the digital edition and install it from your library.
- Use the series order shown in the collection when deciding which title to launch first.
Xbox One and Xbox on PC
The publisher’s series catalog also lists earlier collections on Xbox One and Xbox on PC. Those listings should not be confused with the new Series X|S collection. If you own an older Xbox edition, check the current store page and eligibility terms before buying again. The available announcement does not establish a single upgrade rule for every Xbox One product or region.
How to play on Nintendo Switch 2
Switch 2 received the native version of Collection [I~III] on October 8, 2026. Nintendo’s official store listing gives the same release date. This is the current Nintendo route if you want locally installed console software rather than the original Switch streaming editions.
Digital Switch 2 purchase
- Open Nintendo eShop on Switch 2.
- Search for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] and confirm that the listing is for Switch 2.
- Review the regional product information, then purchase and download the collection.
- Install the software and launch the first bundle, 1.5+2.5, when beginning the series.
Physical Switch 2 purchase
A physical Switch 2 version is listed, but it is not a fully self-contained cartridge installation. SQUARE ENIX states: “To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection is required to download additional data.” Connect the console to the internet before inserting the game and allow the required data to download. The publisher has not specified the download size or guaranteed how the software behaves offline after installation, so keep that limitation in mind when choosing physical media.

- The latest installment in the beloved Kingdom Hearts series, Re:Coded unites Sora, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and a host of familiar faces from Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy once again for an exciting new adventure
- All-new features include a new character growth system created specifically for the Nintendo DS release, building on the series' immersive blend of action and role-playing elements
- Guide Sora like never before through exciting new boss battles
- Players can design their own avatar using over 800 unlockable parts and trade playable maps with friends
- Varied gameplay inspired by side-scrolling, shooting and classic Final Fantasy games
Is Kingdom Hearts on the original Nintendo Switch?
Yes, but the earlier Switch releases are Cloud versions. The original Switch lineup consists of Cloud versions of the 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind collections. They stream gameplay from a remote service instead of running the complete game locally on the console.
What a Cloud version requires
- A reliable internet connection for the duration of play.
- Access to the cloud service in your country or region.
- A network environment stable enough to maintain a stream; wireless congestion or changing networks can interrupt play.
- Verification that the particular collection is still offered in your regional Nintendo eShop.
Because service availability can change by territory and over time, check the current regional store page before buying. The Cloud releases and the native Switch 2 collection are not interchangeable names for the same installation: one streams from a service, while the other is the current native console release.
Can you transfer a Switch Cloud save to Switch 2?
According to SQUARE ENIX’s release announcement, Nintendo Switch Cloud owners can transfer saves to Switch 2. The same announcement says transfers are not supported for other platforms. The exact eligibility and procedure are governed by the current regional store terms, so confirm that your existing purchase and account qualify before deleting the old Cloud installation or changing consoles.
Before attempting a transfer
- Keep the original Switch Cloud save intact until the transfer is complete.
- Use the Nintendo account associated with the eligible Cloud purchase.
- Install the Switch 2 collection and update both systems if prompted.
- Follow the transfer instructions shown by Nintendo and SQUARE ENIX for your region.
- Verify that your save appears in the intended game before removing the old version.
Do not assume that a PlayStation, Xbox, or PC save can be moved into Switch 2; the cited announcement specifically supports the Switch Cloud-to-Switch 2 path and does not support transfers for other platforms.
Physical or digital: which edition fits?
| Choice | Best for | Key condition |
|---|---|---|
| Digital | Players who want immediate download and a launcher or console library copy | Store, account, and regional availability determine the purchase. |
| Physical PS5 | Players who prefer a disc for the current PlayStation collection | Internet is required to download additional data. |
| Physical Switch 2 | Players who prefer a cartridge-based purchase | Internet is required to download additional data; the download size is not stated. |
| Original Switch Cloud | Players who already own the original Switch and accept streamed play | Requires a supported regional cloud service and dependable internet. |
The physical editions are not different story bundles from the digital collection. Their meaningful difference is the purchase format and the additional-data download requirement.

- KINGDOM HEARTS is a series of role-playing games created through the collaboration of Disney Interactive and Square Enix
Recommended play order for a first-time player
The collection lets you install several games at once, but the release grouping gives a practical path through the story.
- HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX: begin with KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, then continue through the playable entries and use the movie compilations where they fit your preferred story order.
- HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: play Dream Drop Distance HD, watch χ Back Cover, and play 0.2 Birth by Sleep according to the in-game or menu guidance.
- KINGDOM HEARTS III: finish the main game before starting the included Re Mind DLC, which is designed as an expansion to that story.
The two HD movie compilations in 1.5+2.5 are viewing experiences rather than full playable remasters, so plan your time accordingly.
Common purchasing mistakes and fixes
Mistaking Switch 2 for original Switch
Symptom: a listing says Cloud or identifies an older Switch release. Fix: look specifically for the native Switch 2 Collection [I~III] listing and the October 8, 2026 release information.
Assuming every entry is playable
Symptom: you expect 358/2 Days and Re:coded to launch as complete games. Fix: remember that the 1.5+2.5 versions are HD cutscene compilations.
Expecting a physical copy to work without an initial connection
Symptom: a PS5 disc or Switch 2 cartridge requests a download. Fix: connect the console to the internet and download the additional data required by the publisher.
Buying an old console edition by accident
Symptom: the store page identifies PS4 or Xbox One rather than PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Fix: compare the platform label and the product name before paying, then review any regional upgrade or discount terms.
Recommended Free Tools
Assuming a save transfer works everywhere
Symptom: a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox save cannot be imported into Switch 2. Fix: the announced supported route is Nintendo Switch Cloud to Switch 2; other-platform transfers are not supported in that announcement.
Bottom line
Use Collection [I~III] on Windows, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2 for the broadest current package. Choose Steam, Epic Games Store, or Microsoft Store according to your preferred PC launcher. On PlayStation and Switch 2, decide between digital and physical while remembering that physical copies require an internet download. On the original Switch, the games are Cloud versions, so verify regional service support and your network first. If you already own a qualifying Switch Cloud edition, the publisher says its save can transfer to Switch 2; transfers from other platforms are not supported in the cited announcement.
