Buy the dedicated Switch 2 digital edition
If you are buying the game new, the standalone Switch 2 digital edition is the most direct option. Nintendo lists it for October 8, 2026. Its listing gives an estimated 26.9 GB download size, TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes, and single-system play for one player. Nintendo lists French, German, Italian, Spanish, and American English as supported languages; check the store listing for current details.

Nintendo lists the Cloud Version as compatible with Switch 2, but it is streamed rather than a native Switch 2 release and requires an internet connection. Nintendo’s product page advises trying the free demo before purchase; Square Enix says sales of the Cloud Version ended June 9, 2026, so it is no longer a new-purchase route.
#1 Best Overall
For owners, the important limitation is the service end date: Square Enix says the title will remain playable until June 9, 2027 at 14:59 UTC. That makes the Cloud Version a temporary option, not a lasting substitute for the dedicated release. An internet connection is required whenever you play through it.
Transfer Cloud Version saves and check the owner discount
Square Enix Support says Cloud Version save data can be transferred to the Switch 2 digital edition. Its notice also says eligible owners can receive a 50% discount on the corresponding Switch 2 digital version. The physical collection is excluded from that discount. The official listings do not establish a redemption deadline, price, or step-by-step claim process, so check the relevant Nintendo or Square Enix product information for current terms.

Choose the physical collection if you want more than 2.8
Square Enix lists a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]. It bundles three releases rather than offering a standalone physical copy of 2.8:
Rank #3

- Somnium: Explore the eccentric dream world of potential suspects to uncover clues and secret memories!
- Escape: Solve thrilling mysteries while exploring a locked environment. When you find the true answer beyond the surface level of logic, the door to escape will open!
- Exclusive item: Physical copies come with two 3" holographic stickers!

- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind
If you want this format, check the retailer’s specific edition details. The official collection page confirms a physical release but does not say whether the games are on a cartridge or how much data must be downloaded.
What is included in HD 2.8?
The collection contains three experiences that lead into KINGDOM HEARTS III:
- KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD: a full-HD remaster centered on Sora and Riku’s Mark of Mastery exam.
- KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover: an HD movie about the Foretellers and the series’ origins.
- KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –: an episode that connects to KINGDOM HEARTS III.
These contents are described on the official Nintendo product page and Square Enix collection page.
