Horde Siege is a 12-player cooperative mode in Gears of War: E-Day, with three squads of four tackling missions on the same battlefield. Choose a class and playlist, complete R.I.G. objectives, share squad-earned Energy, and support teammates. After the final fight, clear the extraction zone and survive until the Raven arrives. At least one member of your squad must extract for the mission to count as complete and for you to keep Weapon Parts earned during it.
What happens in Horde Siege?
Each squad has its own missions, but all three operate on one persistent battlefield. Squads can cross paths, encounter dynamic events, and benefit from resources or fortifications left by other teams. The Coalition describes the mode’s core as surviving the Locust, supporting your squad, and making effective use of your firepower.

Your mission centers on R.I.G. equipment—Resonation Imaging Geographer gear that the COG repurposed to map Locust tunnels beneath Kalona. Launch objective types include Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, and Horde. Once the main objectives are complete, your squad must reach the extraction zone and hold it until the Raven arrives.

Choose a class that fits your role
There are four classes, and the developer says no particular squad composition is required. You can mix roles or have all four players choose the same class. Pick based on the range and support style you prefer:

Pick a playlist for your time and play style
The Coalition gives typical playlist durations, not guaranteed match lengths. Blitz is the shorter option; Siege sends your squad across more of the map; Horde concentrates the action into a longer defense.

How to start and complete a mission
- Open the game’s multiplayer menu. Choose the Horde Siege playlist flow shown on screen. The exact menu labels and button sequence may vary; follow the current in-game prompts rather than relying on an assumed path.
- Select a class, playlist, and difficulty. Difficulty scales with class level. The Coalition’s overview suggests Infantry for class levels 10–20, Commander for levels 20–30, and Allfather for max-level classes. Use the game’s current recommendation for your class and squad: later tuning updates can change balance.
- Complete the main R.I.G. objectives. Follow the mission prompts for tasks such as securing, calibrating, repairing, or defending equipment. In Siege, expect to move between objectives across the map.
- Weigh optional objectives and resupplies. Secondary tasks can reward Weapon Parts, equipment, or Squad Perks. COG Resupplies can also provide items, but they attract Locust forces. If your squad is already exposed or struggling, consider whether the extra reward is worth drawing more enemies.
- Use Energy at Supply Caches. Your squad earns a shared Energy pool by completing objectives and defeating enemies. Energy can buy equipment, weapons, and Squad Perks; it can also fund or upgrade turret installations at defensive positions. The pool is shared, but players make purchases individually, so coordinate before spending on competing priorities.
- Recover fallen players and protect Squad Lives. A killed player drops COG tags. Deliver those tags to a Supply Cache to revive them, or let a player from another squad pick them up for an instant revive. A full-squad wipe consumes a Squad Life; losing all Squad Lives fails the mission.
- Extract after the final objectives. Clear the landing zone and hold out until the Raven arrives. At least one squad member must escape for the mission to count as complete; a successful extraction also preserves Weapon Parts earned during the mission.
Combat habits that help your squad
- Move between cover rather than crossing exposed ground casually. The Coalition’s July 31, 2026 gameplay update emphasizes reading cover and choosing an approach; a poor move can leave a Gear exposed.
- Match your position to your class. Assault and Medic offer midrange utility, Breacher is built for close-range pressure, and Marksman supports longer sightlines. Use the class ability when it supports the current objective or a teammate.
- Regroup when an objective stalls. Discuss the next move and get the squad back together instead of letting players drift into separate fights.
- Spend for the situation, not just because Energy is available. Agree whether the immediate need is equipment, a weapon, a Squad Perk, or a turret investment at a defensive position.
- Keep the risk of optional fights in view. Extra tasks can pay out, but resupplies draw Locust and unnecessary exposure can make the main objective harder. Skip a detour when the squad is not in a position to handle it.
What to know about access and current updates
The publisher lists Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam, and lists a physical Standard Edition. The publisher identifies October 6, 2026, as the global release date. Online Horde Siege may require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately; check the current terms for your region and platform on the official editions and access page.
The Coalition’s September 30, 2026 update said Season 1: Emergence was planned to run for eight weeks, through December 1, 2026, with three limited themed events. Each was planned to include a Versus event mode, a Horde Siege event mission, and rewards. The same update reported tuning to Repair and Invasion difficulty, Commander and Allfather difficulty, Medic Stim duration, equipment costs, Squad Perk Energy costs, and Weapon Part rewards.
