Halloween: The Game is an asymmetric 1v4 game: up to four Heroes of Haddonfield work together to warn residents and help them escape, while one player controls Michael Myers and stalks residents without being detected. Your first match becomes much easier when you follow those stated objectives instead of treating it like a conventional team deathmatch. The recommendations below are practical inferences from the official objectives, not guaranteed or independently tested optimal strategies.
Understand the match before you queue
The official Steam listing describes two very different sides. A match can include up to four Heroes against Michael Myers, so each role has a different job, information problem and acceptable level of risk.

| Side | Players | Stated objective | What can go wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heroes of Haddonfield | Up to four players | Warn residents and help them escape. Contacting police and convincing townsfolk build increasingly powerful and thorough neighborhood patrols. | Residents remain in danger, the team becomes separated, or its actions fail to create enough protection. |
| Michael Myers | One player | Target, stalk and terrorize residents while avoiding detection. | Threatened residents may call authorities or fight back, exposing Michael or interrupting his plan. |
This is not a round-based version of a board game, and it is not one of the older Halloween video games. The 2026 release is an IllFonic-developed game published by IllFonic Publishing with Gun Interactive as co-publisher. Steam lists September 8, 2026 as the release date.

Choose a learning goal for your first session
A useful first-session plan is to learn one side at a time. Start with the role you are most curious about, then play a second match on the other side so you understand what information and pressure your opponent is dealing with. This is an editorial recommendation, not a separate training queue or an official tutorial feature.

If you start as a Hero
Use your first match to build a repeatable routine: find residents, warn them, help them reach safety, and look for opportunities to contact police. Pay attention to how the neighborhood changes when townsfolk are convinced and patrols become stronger. Do not assume there is one officially correct order for these actions; the listing establishes the objectives and their relationship, but not an optimal sequence.
If you start as Michael
Use the three verbs in the listing as your mental checklist: target, stalk and terrorize. Spend the first match learning how the environment, shadows and stealth presentation affect your approach. The official description warns that residents who feel threatened can call authorities or fight back, so every aggressive move should be weighed against the attention it creates.
Hero first-match guide
1. Find residents before chasing a dramatic confrontation
The Hero objective begins with residents, not Michael. Move through the neighborhood looking for people who need a warning or assistance. Once you locate them, decide whether the immediate priority is communicating danger, guiding an escape or creating a safer route. This keeps your actions tied to the win condition rather than to a search for the killer.

2. Warn residents and confirm that help is reaching them
Warning residents is explicitly part of the Hero role. Treat each contact as a task to complete and then check whether the person is actually moving toward safety. If several Heroes are present, communicate which residents have already been handled so two players do not spend the same time on one person while another remains exposed.

3. Help residents escape
Escorting people out is the other named Hero objective. Stay close enough to respond when danger appears, but avoid assuming that every Hero must stand in one place. A practical recommendation is to divide attention: one player can look for additional residents while another helps an identified group escape. The game does not publish a guaranteed formation or route, so adjust this division when the map or pressure changes.
4. Contact police to improve neighborhood patrols
The listing says contacting police and convincing townsfolk lead to increasingly powerful and thorough neighborhood patrols. When you have a safe opportunity to contact police, treat it as strategic progress rather than a side activity. Because the official page does not specify an ideal timing, do not delay an immediate rescue merely to force a call; make the choice according to the danger you can currently see.
5. Convince townsfolk and use the systems the game gives you
Heroes can arm themselves with everyday household items and weapons. They can also command and equip non-player characters. These tools suggest a recommendation for beginners: use available people and objects to increase the neighborhood’s ability to respond instead of trying to solve every problem alone. The listing does not state which item, weapon or NPC loadout is strongest, so treat your early matches as a chance to learn what each option does.
6. Keep the team informed
Short, specific callouts are more useful than constant narration. Tell teammates where residents are, who is being escorted, whether police have been contacted and when Michael has been spotted. This communication plan is an inference from the four-player objective structure, not a tested requirement. Its purpose is to prevent duplicated work and make sure a warning or rescue is not silently abandoned.

Michael Myers first-match guide
1. Learn the target-stalk-terrorize cycle
The official description frames Michael’s play around targeting residents, stalking them and terrorizing them. Use those verbs to organize your decisions. First identify a resident or group, then approach in a way that preserves concealment, and only then decide whether creating fear is worth the attention it may bring. This is a learning framework, not a verified ability rotation.
2. Treat shadows and stealth as resources
The listing emphasizes shadows and stealth. In your opening match, observe how much information you reveal while moving, how residents react to your presence and which approaches leave you exposed. A cautious recommendation is to avoid repeating a visible route after residents have reacted to it. The official material does not establish a best route, cooldown sequence or guaranteed hiding position, so do not present any particular path as optimal.
3. Expect residents to resist
Threatened townsfolk may call authorities and may fight back. That means a successful scare can also create a new problem for Michael. Before escalating, consider whether the resident is isolated, whether an authority response would reveal your position and whether you have a way to withdraw. These are objective-based decisions inferred from the stated reactions; they are not promises about a specific encounter outcome.

Constantly attacking the nearest person can expose you without improving your position. Use the first match to learn when a target is worth pursuing and when breaking contact is safer. The game does not publish a universal target priority, so record what you observe rather than copying a supposed “perfect” sequence from an unverified guide.

- This 1 vs Many game by renowned designer Emerson Matsuuchi is the first time the original Halloween movie has been made into its own board game.
- It was the night HE came home... and one player must take on the role of Michael Myers!
- The others will control Laurie and her friends as they scramble to find weapons, the kids, and a way to escape.
- Their task will be made more difficult because Myers can only be seen when you're looking right at him!
- 2-4 Players | Ages 14+ | 60 Minutes Playing Time
Use the solo story carefully
Halloween: The Game includes a standalone single-player story told through Michael’s perspective, as well as online player-versus-player and cooperative modes. The story can be a lower-pressure place to become familiar with presentation, movement and the game’s atmosphere before entering a 1v4 match. However, the official listing does not call it a formal tutorial, does not promise that it teaches Hero systems and does not establish that every multiplayer mechanic is introduced there. If you want to learn the Hero role, you still need to practice that role in the mode where it is available.
A simple first-night routine
- Read the role objective before starting. As a Hero, identify the residents you need to warn and help escape. As Michael, identify how you will observe, stalk and choose when to terrorize.
- Spend the opening minutes gathering information. Heroes should locate residents and useful household resources; Michael should observe movement, shadows and reactions without assuming that immediate aggression is best.
- Make one objective-driven play. Complete a warning or begin an escape as a Hero, or execute one concealed stalking attempt as Michael. Focus on what changed after that action.
- Review the consequence. Heroes should check whether patrols, residents or teammates are safer. Michael should check whether authorities were alerted, a resident fought back or his position became obvious.
- Change one decision in the next match. Keeping the experiment small makes it easier to learn which information came from the game and which was merely an assumption.
Modes, platforms and PC requirements

Quick Recap
Common first-match mistakes and corrections
- Heroes pursue Michael while residents remain unattended. Return to the stated warning and escape objectives; confrontation is not the primary description of the Hero role.
- Heroes split without reporting progress. State which residents are being warned or escorted and whether police have been contacted.
- Michael reveals himself immediately every time. Spend one attempt learning how concealment and shadows affect detection before committing to a visible attack.
- Michael ignores authority and civilian reactions. Remember that threatened residents may call authorities or fight back, turning a scare into exposure.
- A story mission is assumed to teach every multiplayer system. Use it for Michael-focused familiarity, but learn Hero responsibilities in the online role itself.
- Old advice is treated as permanent. Check the current official patch notes, especially after the October 6, 2026 version 1.1.0 entry.
