There is no single Gundam game timeline. Gundam is a multiverse: Universal Century (UC), SEED, Wing, 00, Iron-Blooded Orphans and other settings each have their own continuity, while crossover games intentionally mix them. Use release order to understand how the game catalog evolved, or use a continuity-specific story order when you want one universe to make sense. The practical starting point for most new players is SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE for a cross-era tour, GUNDAM BREAKER 4 for custom Gunpla, or a game tied to the single anime universe you already want to follow.
Do Gundam games follow one timeline?
No. Gundam games are built around several animation continuities and several game formats. A campaign can retell scenes from one anime, add a side story in an established year, create an original scenario, or place mobile suits from unrelated universes in the same battle. Treating every release as a sequel produces a chronology that does not exist.

The two questions below are therefore different:
- Release order: when each game launched. This is useful for seeing changes in design, technology and available series.
- Story order: where a game fits inside a particular universe, such as UC or SEED. This is useful when you want a coherent narrative.
A crossover such as SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE belongs to neither a single UC sequence nor a single SEED sequence. Its premise is a distorted G: Universe in which Gundam canon twists across eras, so play it as an introduction or alternate tour rather than a missing chapter in one anime timeline.

The following sequence is a practical route through prominent recent releases. It is not a complete history of every Japanese-only, arcade, mobile or legacy title. Gundam games cover strategy RPGs, fighting games, action games, musou-style battles, simulations and customization sandboxes; region and genre can matter as much as the launch date.

1. SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE (2022)
Bandai Namco describes this as an action RPG set in G: Universe, a world where Gundam canon twists and turns unpredictably. SD-styled mobile suits fight through distorted versions of key scenes, and the campaign supports a three-player team. The official launch description reaches from the original Mobile Suit Gundam era through Iron-Blooded Orphans, making it a broad sampler rather than a faithful retelling of one show.
Play it first if you recognize several Gundam designs but do not yet know which universe you prefer. Expect altered encounters and mixed casts. A familiar scene is a reference point, not proof that the game occupies that scene’s exact place in the anime timeline.
2. GUNDAM BREAKER 4 (2024)
GUNDAM BREAKER 4 launched on 29 August 2024. Its advertised loop is “Break, Build, and Battle”: collect and combine parts, upgrade the resulting Gunpla, then fight with the machine you designed. Co-op and creation sharing are central attractions.

Because the player-created machine is the focus, do not expect the campaign to function as a linear adaptation of UC, SEED or another anime.
3. MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED BATTLE DESTINY REMASTERED (2025)
Bandai Namco’s anime-games catalog lists the remaster on 22 May 2025. Keep it in the SEED lane. It is not the next chapter after a UC game simply because it released later. If you are following SEED, place it alongside the relevant SEED material and use the game’s own scenario framing to determine whether it retells, branches from or supplements the animation.

Current and announced catalog
Official Gundam game listings include SD GUNDAM G GENERATION ETERNAL, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM EXTREME VS. and GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. The RG Project documentation records continuing 2026 activity around GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT and related media. Dates, platforms, language support and regional availability can change, so check the current official listing for your country before buying or planning a multiplayer group.
These titles should not be inserted into the three-game path above without a confirmed launch date and edition for your region. A catalog page can show that a project exists without establishing that it is already available on your platform.

Story order starts with a universe, not with a store page. Follow this procedure whenever you pick a game:
- Identify the continuity. Look for labels such as Universal Century, SEED, Wing, 00 or Iron-Blooded Orphans in the game’s description.
- Decide what the game is doing. It may retell canon, cover a named side story, create an original branch, or cross multiple timelines.
- Find the in-universe date or event. A side-story game that names a UC year can be placed around that year; a crossover with no single year should remain outside a strict chronology.
- Use the animation as the spine. Start with the relevant series or film era, then add a game only where its stated events fit.
- Keep alternate universes separate. A SEED event does not become a UC sequel, and a Wing or 00 game does not continue either one.
Universal Century (UC) game order
UC is the setting with the deepest connected history, so it is the one most likely to be described as “the Gundam timeline.” Even here, games vary between adaptations, side stories and original missions. Use the dated UC history as the spine: begin with the original Mobile Suit Gundam era, continue through direct UC sequels and films, and then place a side-story game at the UC year named by that game.
Start with the original Mobile Suit Gundam era
Games that recreate the One Year War or scenes from the original series belong at the beginning of a UC route. They can present the same battles from a different pilot’s perspective or add missions that are not shown in the anime. Do not assume that every mission is equally canonical; a game may use the setting while telling an original story.

Follow direct UC sequels and films
After the original era, move through the UC sequels and films in their established order. A game explicitly tied to a later UC production should be played after the events it references. If a title covers several decades, use its chapter labels or the named year rather than the game’s release date.
Insert UC side stories by their named year
Side-story games are easiest to place when their official description identifies a Universal Century year. Put the title after the preceding UC events and before the next dated production. If the game does not provide a year, leave it as a side story adjacent to the series it references instead of inventing a position.
Keep crossovers outside the UC line
SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE includes UC material, but its G: Universe premise deliberately distorts canon across multiple eras. It can introduce UC characters and machines, yet it cannot be used to determine what happened next in UC. Treat the game as a remix of recognizable moments.
SEED story order
SEED has its own setting and terminology. Choose a game explicitly tied to SEED, then follow the animation and any sequel or side-story material named by that game. MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED BATTLE DESTINY REMASTERED belongs here, not after a UC title in a release-date list.
When a SEED game offers missions from more than one SEED production, play them in the order the game presents or in the order of the named events. A remaster preserves the original game’s structure; its 2025 release date does not move the story into a newer universe.

Wing, 00, Iron-Blooded Orphans and other universes
Apply the same lane rule to every alternate universe:
- Wing: follow games connected to the Wing setting alongside its own animation and sequel material.
- 00: keep 00 missions with the 00 series and related films or side stories.
- Iron-Blooded Orphans: place game events according to the IBO production or year they name, rather than using UC dates.
- G, X and newer universes: treat each as a separate continuity until an official crossover says otherwise.
A crossover may borrow a character or mobile suit from any of these lanes without merging their histories. The appearance of a machine is not evidence that its universe has become part of another series’ chronology.

Solo, co-op and online expectations
Solo play
Story-focused or customization-focused games can be approached alone, but the exact mission structure differs by title. A crossover action RPG may let you assemble a team of mobile suits, while a strategy collection may ask you to manage units and turns rather than directly control one machine. Read the edition’s mode list before assuming that every campaign is playable offline.
Co-op action
SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE supports a three-player team, and GUNDAM BREAKER 4 advertises co-op alongside its build and creation-sharing systems. Confirm whether your intended platform requires an online subscription, whether cross-play is supported, and whether friends must own the same regional edition; those details can vary and are not established by the release dates alone.
Competitive play
GUNDAM EXTREME VS. is best understood as competitive fighting content. Character and mobile-suit rosters can draw from many universes, but roster breadth is not a story order. Check the currently available product in your territory for platform, network and matchmaking details.

Platform, language and regional checks
“Which Gundam game is on Switch, PS5 or PC?” cannot be answered safely with a single permanent list. Platforms, storefront editions, language options and online services differ by title and territory, and newer catalog entries can be announced before their regional release is confirmed.
Before purchasing, verify:
- the exact platform edition, including whether it is a remaster or a new release;
- the storefront region and whether the listed release date applies to your country;
- supported interface, subtitle and voice languages;
- whether online co-op or competitive modes require a platform subscription;
- whether downloadable content or bonus units are locked to a region or edition;
- the current status of announced projects such as GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT and SD GUNDAM G GENERATION ETERNAL.
Do not infer availability from a trailer, an import listing or an older platform page. Use the current official product page for the territory where you will play.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: sorting every game by launch date and calling it story order
A 2025 SEED remaster can depict events from a setting that predates or ignores a 2022 crossover’s plot. Release order tells you when you could buy the games, not when their characters lived.

Mistake: treating a crossover as a canon sequel
Mixed-roster games are designed to bring eras together. In SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE, the G: Universe is specifically distorted. Enjoy the references, but return to the relevant anime or UC year for canonical sequence.
Mistake: assuming one G Generation edition covers all Gundam
SD GUNDAM G GENERATION entries collect multiple series in a strategy-RPG framework, but the included eras depend on the edition. Check its roster and scenario list before using it as a complete franchise history.
Mistake: using a machine’s appearance to place an event
A mobile suit can appear in a roster, bonus mission or crossover without moving its original universe’s timeline. Place the event only when the game identifies the series, chapter or in-universe year.
Mistake: ignoring regional differences
A title may be announced globally but launch later in a particular storefront, or offer different language and online support by region. Confirm the local listing before organizing purchases with friends.
A practical play plan for a first-time fan
- Choose your goal: broad sampling, custom building, one anime continuity, strategy or competitive fighting.
- Select the matching first game: use the decision table above rather than the newest release alone.
- Write down the universe for each next game. Mark UC, SEED, Wing, 00, IBO or another setting before you start.
- For UC, record the named year. Insert dated side stories around the animation timeline; leave undated or crossover games outside the strict line.
- For alternate universes, stay in one lane. Finish the relevant animation or game arc before switching to another setting if narrative continuity matters to you.
- Use crossover titles as palate cleansers. Return to them whenever you want mixed-era action without asking them to resolve canon.
- Recheck the product page before buying. Confirm platform, language, region, online requirements and the edition’s included series.
Release order versus story order: the short answer
Play SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE (2022), then GUNDAM BREAKER 4 (2024), then MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED BATTLE DESTINY REMASTERED (2025) if you want a simple modern release path. For story order, choose one continuity first: follow UC’s dated animation spine and place UC side stories by their stated year, or follow SEED, Wing, 00, Iron-Blooded Orphans or another universe in its own lane. Keep crossovers and competitive collections outside a single chronology.
