HorrorGuessr is GeoGuessr’s Halloween game mode, but it is not currently playable. GeoGuessr’s official event page is marked “EVENT IS OVER” and says, “The black pano monster has retreated to the shadows.” Check that page first, because seasonal availability can change.
When the event is active, progression follows a fixed calendar. The campaign reaches its final boss on day 30; after that, the Codex describes repeating ten-day blocks. This guide explains the schedule, what each event marker means, how to track a complete run, and which details must be read in the in-game Codex rather than guessed.

What HorrorGuessr is
HorrorGuessr is a seasonal GeoGuessr mode built around the same location-guessing foundation as the main game. GeoGuessr drops you into a Street View panorama, and you use visual clues to place your guess on a world map. The Halloween mode adds a day-by-day progression route with normal days, Merchant visits, bosses, flashlight events and shadow-realm events.
The route is a calendar rather than a free-form campaign. Your position in the run determines which event appears next, and the calendar is the same on every difficulty. That makes the day number the most reliable way to plan a completion attempt.

Check whether the mode is available
Availability is the first issue to solve. As of 18 October 2026, GeoGuessr’s official HorrorGuessr event page displays “EVENT IS OVER” and the message “The black pano monster has retreated to the shadows.” That means a current GeoGuessr account may not show HorrorGuessr in its game list even though the mode and its Codex remain documented.
- Open GeoGuessr’s official seasonal-event page and look for an active HorrorGuessr start option rather than relying on an old guide or saved bookmark.
- If the event is active, sign in to the GeoGuessr account on the platform you intend to use and select HorrorGuessR from the available game modes.
- If the event page still says it is over, wait for an official reactivation or replacement seasonal event. Do not assume that changing difficulty, reinstalling the app or buying hardware will unlock a closed event.
GeoGuessr lists the game on the web, Steam, iOS and Android. No controller, headset, atlas, book or other physical product is required for HorrorGuessr progression; the mode is accessed digitally through a supported GeoGuessr client.
How the progression calendar works
- The calendar is identical on every difficulty.
- Before the final boss, every fifth day is a boss day.
- Between bosses, the Merchant visits twice. The second visit occurs on the night before the next boss.
- Flashlight and shadow-realm entries are distinct calendar markers, not alternative names for ordinary days.
- Day 30 is the final boss of the opening campaign.
- After day 30, bosses arrive every tenth day and the Merchant appears every five days, on the night before a flashlight or a boss.
This structure lets you predict the major checkpoints without knowing the effects of every item. You can prepare for a boss by checking the Codex before the preceding Merchant night, then use the day number to confirm that the run is on schedule.

What happens after the final boss
Defeating day 30 does not end the calendar permanently. The official Codex says the post-campaign schedule repeats in ten-day blocks. Bosses then occur every tenth day, while Merchant visits occur every five days on the night before a flashlight or a boss.
The first displayed repeat block covers days 31–40. Its documented checkpoints are:
| Day | Documented marker |
|---|---|
| 34 | Merchant |
| 39 | Merchant |
| 40 | Boss |
The ten-day pattern then continues indefinitely while the event remains available. Use the in-game calendar and Codex to confirm each later block; the opening repeat example establishes the cycle, but it does not provide a complete item-by-item description of every post-day-30 event.

Normal days
Treat a normal day as the ordinary location-guessing portion of the run. Read the panorama for geographic clues, make the map guess, and note the day number after the result. Keeping a simple log prevents a failed session from being mistaken for a missing calendar event.

Merchant nights
A Merchant visit is a scheduled progression checkpoint, not a random encounter. The calendar identifies whether it happens after the current day and whether it is the second visit before a boss. When the Merchant appears, record the day, inspect the available Codex information and note any item or progression entry that becomes visible. The published Codex index confirms that items and the Merchant have dedicated sections, but it does not publish the individual effects or purchase rules.
Boss days
Bosses are fixed calendar gates. Before starting one, verify the day number and review the relevant boss entry in the in-game Codex. The indexed Codex lists 11 bosses, but the available documentation does not include their individual tactics, health values, rewards or failure rules. Do not treat an online list of generic boss advice as an official unlock requirement unless the active Codex confirms it.
Flashlight events
Flashlight is a named event marker in the calendar. The schedule tells you when it occurs, including days 6, 12, 18, 24, 28 and 29 in the opening campaign. The source material does not establish the flashlight’s item effect, duration or scoring formula, so those details must be read in the active game rather than inferred from the name.
Shadow-realm events
The opening calendar places shadow-realm markers on days 16 and 26. They are separate from flashlight days and should be logged independently. The available Codex index identifies the event category but does not provide a verified rules explanation, so consult the in-game entry when the mode is live.

The final boss
Day 30 is explicitly the final boss of the first campaign. Completing it is the clearest definition of finishing the opening progression. If you want every later calendar checkpoint, continue into the repeating ten-day route instead of stopping at the day-30 result.
How to unlock the full documented progression
- Confirm that HorrorGuessr is active. The official event page currently reports that it is over, so availability must be checked before troubleshooting an account or device.
- Start at day 1 and track every result. Write down the day number and marker after each completed entry. This creates an audit trail if a session disconnects or the event resumes with a new calendar.
- Reach each scheduled boss. The pre-final-boss gates occur on days 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25.
- Complete the special markers. Log Merchant, flashlight and shadow-realm entries separately; they are part of the calendar even when they are not boss fights.
- Defeat the day-30 final boss. This completes the opening campaign route.
- Continue into the repeating blocks. After day 30, use the ten-day cycle to plan later bosses and Merchant nights. The first documented repeat block has Merchant visits on days 34 and 39 and a boss on day 40.
- Use the live Codex for collection requirements. Its indexed sections cover the monster, Merchant, items, bosses, difficulties, titles and the point system. The index exposes 121 items and 11 bosses, but it does not publish every unlock condition outside the game.
What the Codex confirms—and what it does not
The Codex is the authoritative place to finish a collection because it is where the mode records its own content. Its navigation exposes 121 items and 11 bosses, giving you a measurable target for a completion checklist. It also separates titles, difficulty settings and points from the basic calendar.
However, the indexed material does not include individual item effects, boss tactics, title thresholds, difficulty modifiers or point formulas. Those omissions matter: it would be misleading to promise that a particular Merchant visit grants a named item, that a title unlocks at a specific score, or that a boss has a particular weakness without an active in-game entry confirming it.
- Items: verify the item name, effect and unlock condition in the live Codex.
- Bosses: verify each boss’s name, appearance day and any encounter-specific rule in the live entry.
- Titles: record the threshold shown by the game; no verified threshold is available here.
- Difficulties: the calendar is shared across difficulties, but individual modifiers are not documented in the available material.
- Points: use the score shown by the active game; no official formula is established in the indexed text.
Difficulty, scoring and completion records
Choosing a different difficulty does not change the calendar. A boss remains a boss on the same day, and Merchant timing follows the same route. Difficulty may affect play or scoring, but the available documentation does not specify those modifiers, so do not use the calendar as evidence of a hidden score multiplier.

Troubleshooting common problems
HorrorGuessr is missing from the mode list
First check the official event page. Because it currently says “EVENT IS OVER,” a missing mode is more likely to reflect seasonal closure than an installation fault. If the event has been reactivated, sign out and back in, update the GeoGuessr client and check the mode on another supported platform. If it remains absent everywhere, wait for an official announcement rather than trying to force an unlock.
The day number does not match the expected schedule
Compare your log with the day-1–30 table and check whether the previous day was actually completed. A Merchant visit described as “after the day” may appear only after the regular entry is finished. For post-day-30 play, verify that you are using the repeating ten-day route and not an older seasonal calendar.
Recommended Free Tools
An item, title or boss entry will not unlock
Do not infer a requirement from the entry’s name. The published index lists the categories and totals, but not every condition. Open the relevant live Codex page, note the exact requirement displayed there, and continue the calendar only after confirming that the event is active.
You are looking for physical equipment
None is required. HorrorGuessr progression is tied to GeoGuessr’s digital game and supported clients, not to a controller, headset, printed guide or geography reference book.
