Yes. Gears of War: E-Day is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The game launched worldwide on October 6, 2026. Sign in with an account on an eligible plan, open the Xbox game catalog on a supported device, and either install the game or launch a supported streaming option. Xbox lists Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC access, while its launch materials also identify Steam and cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate. Plan names, online-multiplayer terms, app labels, and cloud availability can vary by country and change over time, so check the current Xbox page for your region before subscribing.
Is Gears of War: E-Day on Game Pass?
It is. Xbox’s U.S. product page lists Gears of War: E-Day as included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Worldwide launch began on October 6, 2026, so this is a released game rather than an upcoming Game Pass announcement.

That inclusion does not mean every Game Pass tier automatically contains the game. The official listing specifically names Ultimate and PC Game Pass; it does not establish inclusion for every other tier. Xbox can change catalog entries and plan benefits, and local catalogs may differ. Use the plan list shown for your country and device when you make the decision.

| Access route | What the official listing establishes | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate | Includes Gears of War: E-Day from the October 6 launch date. | Players who want Xbox console access and the broadest supported Game Pass options, including cloud gaming where offered. | Online multiplayer requires a subscription that includes online multiplayer. Cloud availability depends on location, device and current service terms. |
| PC Game Pass | Includes the game on Windows PC from launch. | Players who intend to install and play on a Windows PC through a supported Xbox access route. | Check the current PC requirements and local plan wording in the Xbox app or store page. Those requirements are not specified in the cited announcement. |
| Other Game Pass tiers | Not established by the official listing used here. | Only choose one after your local Xbox catalog confirms that E-Day is included. | Do not assume a lower or differently named tier includes this title simply because it is a Game Pass product. |
| Premium Edition purchase | Provided access beginning October 1, five days before standard Game Pass access at launch. | Players who wanted to start before October 6 or wanted that edition’s extras. | This is a separate paid-edition route, not an automatic benefit of an ordinary Game Pass subscription. |
Xbox does not provide a single permanent price in the information summarized here. Prices, taxes, introductory offers and renewal terms are local and can change. Compare the current checkout page rather than relying on an old price quoted elsewhere.

Where can you play it?
Xbox identifies the following ways to access E-Day, with different conditions for each route:
| Platform or service | How it fits the Game Pass question | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | The Xbox game page lists the console family as supported. Game Pass Ultimate is the named console subscription that includes the game. | Sign in with the subscribing account, confirm the game tile shows an install or play option, and check online-multiplayer terms if you will play with others. |
| Windows PC | PC Game Pass includes E-Day, and Xbox lists Windows PC support. Xbox Play Anywhere allows play across Xbox and PC with shared progression for supported purchases and entitlements. | Use the current Xbox PC app or store listing, and confirm that your Windows version and hardware meet the game’s displayed requirements. |
| Steam | Xbox’s launch announcement names Steam as an access route. | Confirm how your Game Pass entitlement, account linking and the current Steam listing work in your region. The cited material does not establish feature parity or shared progression between Steam and Xbox versions. |
| Cloud gaming | The launch announcement names cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate. | Availability is not universal. Check whether E-Day is streamable in your country, on your device and under your current Ultimate plan before relying on streaming. |
| GeForce NOW | The launch announcement also names GeForce NOW among supported services. | The announcement does not establish that every Game Pass plan, country, device or edition has the same GeForce NOW access. Check the live service listings and account requirements. |
How to start playing on Xbox Series X|S
The exact wording of buttons can change with Xbox dashboard updates, but the process is straightforward:
- Confirm the subscription account. On the console, sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the active Game Pass Ultimate subscription. If another account paid for the subscription, use the console’s sharing settings only where your household setup and current Xbox terms allow it.
- Open the Game Pass catalog. Launch the Game Pass area or Microsoft Store and search for Gears of War: E-Day. Use the full title so you do not select another game in the series.
- Read the entitlement panel. The page should identify the plan that includes the game and present an install or play control. If it shows only a purchase option, check that you are signed into the subscribing account and that your local catalog currently includes E-Day.
- Install or launch. Choose the install location if prompted. For cloud play, select the available play or stream control instead of downloading; streaming is only offered where the service supports the title.
- Let the first update finish. Keep the console connected until the game and any launch updates complete. Starting before an update finishes can leave menus or multiplayer services unavailable.
- Choose a campaign mode. E-Day’s campaign supports solo play, two-player console split-screen and online groups of up to four. Select the mode that matches the controllers and subscriptions available in your session.
How to play on a Windows PC with PC Game Pass
- Sign into the current Xbox PC app. Use the Microsoft account that has PC Game Pass. If the app displays a different account for the Microsoft Store or Xbox services, sign out and correct the account before installing.
- Search the catalog. Enter Gears of War: E-Day in the app’s search field and open the official game page. The page should show PC Game Pass inclusion for your region.
- Check the displayed requirements. The available material does not specify processor, graphics, memory, storage or Windows-version requirements. Use the requirements shown on your live Xbox or game page instead of copying figures from an unrelated edition.
- Select Install. Pick a drive with enough free space and allow the Xbox app to complete installation. Keep Windows, the Xbox app and Gaming Services updated if the install button is missing or disabled.
- Start from the Xbox app or installed shortcut. The first launch may request Microsoft-account or online-service sign-in. Use the same account that carries the Game Pass entitlement.
- Set up co-op only after the campaign starts. For online campaign play, every participant should verify that their account and plan include the required online multiplayer access. Do not assume that owning the game on PC removes that requirement.
Can you play it through Steam or the cloud?
Steam
Xbox’s October 1 launch announcement names Steam as one of the available PC routes. Steam access can involve a separate store installation, account linking or edition entitlement, so follow the current Steam and Xbox sign-in prompts rather than assuming that an Xbox-app installation transfers automatically. The cited Xbox materials do not promise that Steam has every Xbox feature, the same save behavior or identical multiplayer rules.
Cloud gaming
Game Pass Ultimate is the plan the launch material associates with cloud gaming for E-Day. Streaming avoids a full local installation, but it depends on supported availability in your region, device compatibility and a connection that meets the service’s current requirements. Because those conditions can change, check the cloud-play control on the live game page before buying a subscription for streaming alone.
GeForce NOW
The same launch announcement names GeForce NOW. That mention confirms an announced route, not universal access for every country or plan. Check the current GeForce NOW catalog and its required account connections before treating it as a substitute for an Xbox console or PC installation.
Can you play early with Game Pass?
Not through the standard launch-day Game Pass entitlement. Premium Edition players began playing on October 1, 2026. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members joined on the worldwide launch date, October 6, 2026. The five-day head start was tied to the Premium Edition, not presented as a normal Game Pass perk.
If early access matters, compare the current Premium Edition listing with the cost and flexibility of your Game Pass plan. If you only want to play from October 6 onward, the official listing makes Ultimate or PC Game Pass the relevant subscription routes, depending on your platform.
What does the campaign support?
Solo campaign
You can play the origin-story campaign alone. A single-player session does not require you to find partners, but the account and platform still need the normal entitlement for the way you are accessing the game.
Two-player split-screen
Xbox describes two-player split-screen as a console-only feature. You need an Xbox Series X|S setup with two controllers and a local session. Split-screen is not the same as online co-op, and the official description does not claim that the feature is available on Windows PC or Steam.
Online campaign and multiplayer
Online groups can include up to four players. Xbox states that online campaign co-op and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer. Verify the current online-multiplayer wording for every participant’s account; a plan that includes the game catalog but lacks online access may not be sufficient for an online session.

You do not need a physical collector package to play through an eligible Game Pass subscription. The meaningful choice is whether you want recurring catalog access, an early-start edition or physical extras.
| Route | Access timing or content | Who should consider it | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate | Game included from October 6, 2026; Xbox also associates Ultimate with supported cloud gaming. | Players using Xbox Series X|S, or those who want the broadest named Game Pass route. | It does not guarantee cloud availability in every location or a permanent catalog presence. |
| PC Game Pass | Game included on Windows PC from October 6, 2026. | Players who will install and play on a supported Windows PC. | It does not by itself establish console access, split-screen support or online terms for every account. |
| Premium Edition | Early access began October 1, 2026, five days before standard Game Pass access. | Players who valued the five-day head start or the edition’s additional content. | It is not the same thing as an ordinary Game Pass benefit. |
| Collector’s Edition | Xbox describes physical collectible items and the Xbox Series X Premium Edition of the game. | Collectors who specifically want physical memorabilia and that edition. | It is optional and not required for Game Pass play. |
What you need before installing
- An Xbox or Microsoft account that is signed into the device you will use.
- An active Game Pass Ultimate subscription for the named console route, or PC Game Pass for the named Windows PC route.
- An Xbox Series X|S console, supported Windows PC, Steam setup or supported cloud device, depending on your chosen route.
- Enough free storage for the installation if you are downloading rather than streaming. The cited Xbox pages do not state the game’s storage size.
- Controllers for local split-screen. Xbox identifies two-player split-screen as console-only.
- A plan that includes online multiplayer if you intend to join online campaign co-op or other multiplayer modes.
- A reliable connection for account verification, updates and cloud play. Xbox’s cited material does not define a universal bandwidth figure, so use the live cloud service guidance for your location.
Troubleshooting common access problems
The game page shows a purchase button instead of Install or Play
- Confirm that the signed-in Microsoft account owns Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
- Check the regional Xbox catalog. The U.S. listing names Ultimate and PC Game Pass, but local catalog rights can differ.
- Refresh the Game Pass app and Microsoft Store, then sign back in if the account indicators do not match.
- Look for a separate edition or platform listing. A console listing, Windows listing and Steam listing may not use identical entitlement controls.
Online co-op will not start
- Check that every player has the required game entitlement.
- Verify that each account’s current subscription includes online multiplayer.
- Confirm that the game and console or PC have installed the same current update.
- If you intended to play locally, use the console split-screen option instead; Xbox does not list split-screen as a PC feature.
Cloud play is unavailable
- Confirm that E-Day is currently listed for cloud play in your country.
- Check that the account uses Game Pass Ultimate, the plan named in Xbox’s launch material for cloud access.
- Try the supported Xbox cloud interface on a compatible device. A game can be in the catalog without being streamable on every device or in every location.
- Install locally on Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC if your device and plan support that route.
The PC installation fails or the Install button is missing
- Verify that the Xbox app and Microsoft Store are using the same subscribing account.
- Install pending Windows, Xbox app and Gaming Services updates.
- Choose a drive with adequate free space and allow the app to finish any queued downloads.
- Use the live E-Day requirements panel to confirm that your Windows version and hardware are supported; no universal hardware figures are established in the cited material.
Do you need the Collector’s Edition?
No. Xbox lists E-Day as included with eligible Game Pass plans, so a Collector’s Edition is not necessary to access the game. Xbox describes that edition as adding physical collectible items and the Xbox Series X Premium Edition. Consider it only if those physical items matter to you or you specifically want that package. Check current retailer stock, contents and regional availability before ordering, because those details are not fixed by the Game Pass listing.
Quick Recap
How to choose the right route
- Choose your screen first. Use PC Game Pass for a Windows PC, and look at Game Pass Ultimate for Xbox Series X|S access or supported cloud play.
- Decide whether you need online play. If you will join friends online, confirm that your plan includes online multiplayer before paying.
- Decide whether early access mattered. Only the Premium Edition timing described by Xbox provided the October 1 start; regular Game Pass access began October 6.
- Decide whether you want ownership or collectibles. A purchase or Collector’s Edition can suit someone who wants a separate edition, while Game Pass suits someone who wants catalog access under an eligible subscription.
- Check the local listing at checkout. Catalog inclusion, prices, renewal terms, cloud support and platform labels are all subject to regional and service changes.
