All three editions are the same PS5 game at their core. The differences are the included add-ons and, for Premium, the earlier access date. No separate PS5 version, hardware accessory, or special console is identified in the announcement.

Standard Edition: the base game
Standard is the straightforward choice if you want the complete launch game and do not need the bundled add-ons or early access. Its listed US price is $69.99, and its announced release date is January 26, 2027. It is also the clearest option when you want to decide about additional content later rather than paying for a larger bundle now.
Deluxe Edition: base game plus two launch add-ons
Deluxe is listed at $99.99 in the US, or $30 more than Standard. It adds the Welcome Pack and Car Pass to the full game, but it does not include Premium’s VIP Membership, expansions, or the two named car packs. It is scheduled for the same January 26 launch date as Standard, so the extra cost buys content rather than earlier access.
Premium Edition: all listed extras and five-day early access
Premium is listed at $119.99 in the US. That is $20 more than Deluxe and $50 more than Standard at the displayed prices. It includes everything named for Deluxe, plus VIP Membership, Expansion 1, Expansion 2, the Time Attack Car Pack, and the Italian Passion Car Pack. The Store listing gives Premium early access beginning January 21, 2027.
The announcement identifies Expansion 1 as arriving January 21, 2027 and says Expansion 2 will be available later. That means the Premium bundle can contain an expansion whose release is later than the base-game launch; it does not mean both expansions are playable on January 21. The listing also does not provide a separate price for buying any one of these items individually, so a precise savings calculation is not possible from the published information.
Which edition should you choose?
- Choose Standard if you only want the base game and will start on January 26.
- Choose Deluxe if the Welcome Pack and Car Pass are worth the additional $30 over Standard, but you do not want the larger Premium bundle or early access.
- Choose Premium if five-day early access, VIP Membership, both expansions, and the two additional car packs justify the extra $20 over Deluxe or $50 over Standard at the listed US prices.
These are purchase-time trade-offs, not a performance difference: the announced editions are content and timing bundles for PS5. Before checkout, read the itemized contents on your regional Store page, because the US description is not a guarantee for every market.
Digital purchase or PS5 disc?
Playground Games confirms that a PS5 disc will be sold through supporting retailers. That gives buyers a physical option, but the announcement does not name retailers, guarantee inventory, or confirm that every territory will receive the disc at the same time. Search for a “Forza Horizon 6 PS5 disc” or “PS5 physical edition” through a retailer you trust, and verify the release date and region on the product page.
The digital editions are listed directly in the PlayStation Store. A digital preorder is tied to the PlayStation account making the purchase, so check that you are signed in to the account you intend to use on the console. The Store says preorder payment is taken immediately. That is a purchase condition, not a promise that every country uses identical tax or billing timing.
What accounts and subscriptions you need
PlayStation account
You need the PlayStation account used to purchase and launch the PS5 edition. The Store listing also says online features require a PlayStation account. Keep this account available when you install the game or move between consoles. Buying on one account and expecting another local profile to own the license can create avoidable access problems.
Microsoft account
A Microsoft account is required to play, according to the PlayStation Store listing. Microsoft-account registration is also explicitly required for cross-platform play. If you already use Forza on Xbox or Steam, identify the Microsoft account attached to that progress before starting on PS5; do not create a second account just for the console unless you are certain you want separate progress.
Use an account you can recover independently: know its sign-in address, password or passkey, and recovery method. The published material does not say whether a household can freely move a save between multiple Microsoft identities, so treating the original account as permanent is the safest approach.
PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus is sold separately and is required for online console multiplayer. It is not the same thing as the Microsoft account requirement. The Store’s wording means you should plan for both: Microsoft registration to play and connect the game’s services, and PlayStation Plus for multiplayer on PS5. The listing does not identify a specific Plus tier, price, trial period, or requirement for offline activities, so check the current Store wording for your region.

The Store listing specifies a persistent internet connection. Plan to keep the PS5 online during installation, first launch, account registration, updates, and normal play. An offline-only setup is not supported by the published requirements. If your connection is metered or unstable, allow extra time for downloads and avoid beginning the account-linking process immediately before a planned play session.
Cross-play, cross-save, and community content
Playground Games says the PS5 version will support cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. In its announcement, the studio summarizes this as: “Forza Horizon 6 on PS5® will support cross-platform play and cross-save with the XBOX and Steam versions of the game.”
The announcement also describes cross-platform support for community-created content, including EventLab races, Prefabs, Garages, Estates, liveries, and tuning setups. The statement is about compatibility across the announced platforms; it does not promise that every item will transfer if an account is changed or disconnected, nor does it define whether any content has platform-specific restrictions.
Cross-save support does not remove the need to use the correct Microsoft account. Before launch, make sure you can sign in to the account holding your existing Forza progress on Xbox or Steam. If you cannot access it, recover that account through Microsoft before attempting a PS5 migration. Do not judge the feature by signing in with a new account and assuming the old progress has been deleted.
PS5 account linking: what is confirmed and what is not
The requirement for a Microsoft account and the support for Xbox/Steam cross-save are confirmed in the Store listing and Playground Games announcement. The exact PS5 linking sequence is not yet confirmed. The official PS5 FAQ page was not available when this guide was prepared, and no verified instructions establish whether the first-run flow uses a QR code, a browser sign-in, a console prompt, or another method.

For that reason, do not rely on a particular screen sequence and do not assume that a linked Microsoft account can be unlinked, swapped, or attached to another PlayStation account. Those actions may be restricted, and the final rules should come from current official support documentation. If a prompt offers to continue with a newly created identity, pause and verify the account before accepting.
Safe preparation for an existing Xbox or Steam save
- Write down the email address or sign-in identifier for the Microsoft account that contains your Forza progress.
- Confirm that you can sign in to that account independently before January 2027.
- Check that your Xbox or Steam progress is using that same Microsoft identity, rather than a second account in your household.
- On PS5, wait for the game’s own published linking prompt and follow it exactly. Do not scan an unofficial QR code or enter credentials into a third-party page.
- After linking, verify that the expected profile and progress appear before creating new game data or accepting a prompt that would bind a different account.
These precautions follow from the announced cross-save feature; they are not a substitute for the final PS5-specific instructions. Keep screenshots or notes of the account identifier, but never publish your password or recovery codes.

If those settings are disabled, you may need to start the download manually. Download timing and required storage are not stated in the official listing, so do not assume a particular file size or preload hour.
Premium early access begins January 21, 2027, while Standard and Deluxe begin January 26. Buying Premium after January 21 may still grant access according to the live Store terms, but the final availability and any regional cutoff should be checked on the purchase page. Early access is a timing benefit, not evidence that Premium uses a different game client.

“I do not have a Microsoft account”
Create or recover a Microsoft account before launch, then use that identity when the game requests registration. Because the account is required to play, postponing registration will prevent completion of the initial setup.
“My Xbox or Steam save is missing”
First check that the PS5 is online and that you used the Microsoft account associated with the old save. Do not immediately create another Microsoft account or repeatedly unlink accounts. The final binding rules are not yet published, and changing identities can complicate recovery.

Confirm that the PlayStation account is signed in, the console has its persistent connection, and PlayStation Plus is active. A Microsoft account alone does not replace the separate PlayStation Plus requirement for online console multiplayer.
“The edition does not show the promised add-on”
Check the edition purchased in the transaction history and the add-on release timing. Expansion 1 is announced for January 21, 2027, while Expansion 2 is described as coming later; not every Premium item is necessarily available on day one.
“The early-access date is different in my store”
The dates in this guide come from the US listing and the October 8 announcement. Regional storefronts can display different currencies, taxes, or terms. Use the live page for your PlayStation account region as the final authority.

Because this is a pre-release guide, revisit the official materials shortly before January 2027 and check four items: the live regional price and bundle contents, the PS5 FAQ’s exact account-linking flow, any restrictions on changing a linked Microsoft account, and the final download or preload instructions.
