- Install or extract Dolphin. Follow the package’s normal installer or extraction process, then launch Dolphin once so it can create its user folders.

What to expect from native widescreen
The title wiki records a known shadow issue in native widescreen and notes that the image can be cropped or zoomed. It also says the shadow behavior occurs on console, so it is not automatically evidence that your emulator is malfunctioning. There is a severe slowdown on Split Oval when boosting
The title wiki reports a near-guaranteed lag spike when boosting on Split Oval, even with low graphics settings. Its listed remedies are trying the Direct3D 11 backend or enabling Cull vertices on the CPU. Apply one change at a time and retest the same section. The picture is cropped or shadows look wrong in widescreen
Check that you enabled the game’s internal 16:9 option and selected Force 16:9 in Dolphin. Do not switch to the widescreen hack as a first response. A modern computer is not automatically a uniform Dolphin machine. Emulation translates the GameCube’s instructions and graphics work into operations your processor and GPU can execute. Dolphin’s FAQ explains that adding CPU cores does not simply multiply speed: only some demanding tasks parallelize well, and Dolphin does not use every core as a straightforward speed multiplier.

A sensible performance process
- Use a stable Dolphin build unless you need a documented development-build fix.
- Leave resolution, enhancements and hacks at their defaults and run a representative race.
- Watch for repeatable problems rather than judging performance from a single menu or loading screen.
- Change one graphics backend or title-specific option at a time, then retest the same track and action.
- Record the build, operating system, graphics backend and setting that helped. This makes it possible to undo a change after an update.
Stable versus development builds: which should you use?
