Learn the universal combo system first
The game’s official beginner guide presents Link Attack sequences as general examples. They explain the shared combo teaching system and are not verified routes for Cyclops. On PlayStation, Light is Square (□), Medium is Triangle (△), Heavy is Circle (○), and Cross (×) is the Assemble button; other platforms or customized controls may use different inputs. Use these examples to understand how attacks can link into Skills and team actions. Do not label any sequence a Cyclops combo until you can reproduce it with his actual moves and confirm its conditions in Training Mode.

Quick Skills or Command Inputs?
The beginner guide describes two ways to perform Skills. Quick Skills use a single button and are suggested as a starting point for newcomers. Command Inputs are more demanding to execute, but the guide says they deal slightly more damage and generate more Skill Gauge; their functionality is otherwise similar. This is a general input-style comparison, not a Cyclops-specific damage test.
Start with Quick Skills while learning timing and spacing. Once Cyclops’s moves are available, test both input methods in Training Mode and compare the displayed damage and gauge gain rather than assuming the general difference produces a particular character route.

Use defense and team actions deliberately
The beginner guide documents these shared defensive and team mechanics. Their exact value with Cyclops depends on his eventual assist and tag behavior, which the reveal does not establish.
- Guard: Hold back (←) to stand guard or down-back (↙) to crouch guard.
- Assemble Counter: Press Square + Cross (□ + ×) while not guarding. The character performs a defensive backstep and automatically counters if the opponent attacks during the maneuver.
- Crossover: Press Square + Cross while guarding to call a teammate to interrupt the opponent and create a counteroffensive opening.
- Assemble Assist: Press Cross (×). Direction chooses among teammates: neutral or right for the second teammate, down for the third, and left for the fourth. A directional input with L2 switches to a teammate.
- Switch after an assist: A brief “Switch?” prompt appears after an assist and allows an L2 switch. The guide recommends learning assists before adding direct switching and assist-to-switch techniques.
These are system instructions, not a recommendation for a Cyclops team. No best partner, matchup plan, or character-specific assist property is established in the available official material.

How to practice once Cyclops is available
- Start with Startup Battle and Training Mode. The official beginner guide recommends the in-game Startup Battle tutorial and Training Mode as places to learn the fundamentals.
- Learn the shared Link Attacks. Practice the basic sequences above and note where Skills, Supers, Ultimates, and team actions fit into the system.
- Find Cyclops’s actual commands. Use his in-game Character Guide and the Training Mode command display; do not infer inputs from the character reveal.
- Build a route from a real opening. Record the starter, confirm condition, Skill input, assist timing, and ender. Test whether it works from the situations you intend to use, rather than copying a generic sequence as a finished route.
- Check the results and interactions. Training Mode can display command inputs, frame data, and damage, and supports scenario presets and recorded or replayed bots, according to the official support FAQ. Use those tools to verify a route and team interaction in the current game.
What to expect from the game’s team format
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 team fighter. Its official Steam listing describes adjustable controls, traditional and quick inputs, easy chain combos, offline Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, and Character Guides. The listing also identifies a Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass with four post-launch characters and one stage, but does not name all pass characters in its product description. Check the Steam listing for its listed features and platform details.

Team play does not necessarily require mastering every character before you can begin. In a June 4, 2025, PlayStation Blog overview, Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said: “Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game.” That is useful context for approaching the format, but it does not establish Cyclops’s ideal team or how his eventual assist will work.
