That makes it a practical preservation package, but it does not establish that every old game, revision or regional port is included.

What Legacy Kollection includes—and what it does not promise
A multi-version historical package
The collection brings together arcade material with selected home conversions and less-common releases. A home version can differ from an arcade version in characters, stages, balance, presentation or modes, so the word “collection” should not be read as one definitive build of each game.
Documentary and reference material
The Steam description highlights an interactive documentary with interviews and archival material, plus a timeline and character histories. These extras make the package useful if you want context around the early games rather than only a quick match.
Secret and configuration options
The listing also describes unlockable secret characters and adjustable settings. The exact options can vary by included game or platform build; consult the current in-game and store descriptions for the edition you are buying.

How to verify a specific installment
If you are looking for one exact sequel, arcade revision or home port, do not infer its presence from the collection’s name. Open the current title-by-title list on the relevant store page, compare the listed version with the one you remember, and check whether that list applies to your platform. Official pages can change as editions are updated.

Choose the right platform
Windows PC: the most configurable option
Steam lists the game as released on October 29, 2025. The PC edition supports single-player, online player-versus-player matches, shared-screen player-versus-player, full controller support, Steam Cloud and Remote Play Together. It is the clearest choice if you want to change display settings, use a controller you already own, or play with another person on the same PC.
Remote Play Together can let a friend join a supported local session over Steam’s streaming feature, but both players still depend on a stable connection and the host PC running the game. It is separate from the collection’s advertised cross-play lobbies.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
The PlayStation Store lists PS4 and PS5 editions. Open the official PlayStation Store listing in your region and read the edition name, included console versions and online-service wording before checkout. A PS5 owner should not assume that a PS4 purchase automatically provides every PS5 entitlement; confirm what the local listing says.

Xbox
Atari’s physical standard-edition page lists Xbox, and Xbox has an official digital listing at Xbox.com. Check whether the page applies to your Xbox generation and region. Xbox states that console online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription tier sold separately. That subscription requirement is a platform rule, not evidence that the game lacks offline modes.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Nintendo UK lists a Switch download version with an October 30, 2025 release date. Use the Nintendo listing for your market’s current software details. Atari’s physical standard-edition page lists Switch 2 and Switch formats. Check the package label carefully: a Switch 2 physical product and a Switch product are not interchangeable assumptions, and stock can vary by country.

These are the specifications shown on the Steam page, not a guarantee for every future driver, resolution or background workload. Leave more than the stated 16 GB free if your drive is nearly full, because Windows updates and shader or cloud data may need working space.
Install the Steam edition
- Open the Steam product page and sign in to the account that will own the game.
- Confirm that the purchase page shows the Windows edition and review the current regional price and any package details.
- After purchase, open Steam Library, select Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, choose Install, and select a drive with at least the listed 16 GB available.
- Allow Steam to finish the download and any update. Start the game once before inviting someone so its first-run configuration can complete.
- Connect a compatible gamepad before launching if you prefer analog or arcade-style controls. Steam lists full controller support; the exact button layout can be changed in the game’s control settings.
Prepare for local and online play
- For shared-screen play, connect and test each controller in the game’s input menu before opening a match.
- For online PvP, sign in to Steam and use a stable broadband connection. Wireless congestion can cause delay even when the game itself is functioning normally.
- Steam Cloud can synchronize supported saves, but it is not a substitute for a local backup if you switch computers or use multiple operating-system installations.
- Remote Play Together streams the host’s session, so the host needs enough upload capacity and should close bandwidth-heavy applications.
Buy digitally or physically?
Digital editions
Digital stores are convenient when you want the game immediately and do not need a cartridge or disc. They also make it easier to reinstall on the same account. The trade-off is that ownership is tied to the platform account and the store’s regional rules; a purchase on one storefront should not be assumed to grant a copy on another.

A physical copy can be useful for collectors, gifting or playing on a console with limited internal storage. Atari lists a standard physical edition for Switch 2, Switch, PS5 and Xbox on its product page. Verify the exact system printed on the package, language or region information, and whether the disc or cartridge contains the complete game or requires a download. Retail inventory is not permanent, so check the seller’s current stock rather than relying on an old listing.

- Match the platform name exactly: PS4, PS5, Xbox model, Switch or Switch 2.
- Confirm that the edition includes the particular game or version you want.

Online play, cross-play and subscriptions
What the collection advertises
Atari says players on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC can meet in online lobbies or Quick Play sessions through cross-play. Steam also describes rollback netcode. Rollback is a networking technique intended to keep fighting-game inputs responsive by predicting briefly and correcting when the connection state changes; it cannot eliminate lag caused by a poor connection or distant matchmaking.
Cross-play support and platform access are separate questions. The collection can provide a shared matchmaking pool while Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo or Steam still requires its own account, network access or subscription.
Subscription and account checks
- Xbox: Xbox states that console online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription tier sold separately.
- PlayStation and Nintendo: Check the current online-service wording on your regional store page; the requirement can depend on the platform, account and local policy.
- PC: Steam online features require a Steam account and an internet connection. A console subscription does not apply to the Steam edition.
Offline single-player and local shared-screen modes are distinct from online matchmaking. If your goal is couch play, verify that the selected game or mode supports the number of controllers you intend to use; the Steam listing specifically identifies shared-screen PvP for the PC edition.
How to get the best experience on a modern display
Use a controller for arcade-style input
Keyboard play is possible only if the platform’s control mapping supports it comfortably. Steam’s full controller support makes a gamepad the practical default on PC, especially for two-player sessions. Choose the display mode that suits the room
Play close to the screen in a fighting-game session so health bars, timer and input feedback remain readable. On PC, start with the game’s default display settings, then adjust resolution or window mode if the image is cropped or performance is unstable. On a television, disable unnecessary picture processing if it adds noticeable input delay; this is a display adjustment, not a requirement imposed by the collection.
Keep the historical versions straight
If a move, character or stage seems different from your memory, first check whether you launched an arcade release or a home version. The collection intentionally includes multiple kinds of releases, and differences between them are part of the historical material rather than proof that the installation is faulty.
Troubleshooting common problems
The game is not visible in my store
Store catalogs differ by country, age-rating policy and platform generation. Search the exact title in the account’s regional store, then open the official product page rather than relying on a third-party listing. If a physical edition is unavailable, the digital listing may still exist, or vice versa.

Read the platform badge on the product page and packaging before opening the purchase. Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5 and Xbox products can be listed separately. If the listing is ambiguous, use the platform’s own store page and the publisher’s edition page to confirm compatibility.
Online matchmaking fails
- Confirm that your platform account is signed in and that the platform network reports no outage.
- Check whether your platform requires a paid multiplayer tier; on Xbox, console online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription tier.
- Test another online game or network device to distinguish a general connection problem from a game-session problem.
- Use a wired connection or a less congested Wi-Fi band where possible, then restart the game and router.
- Remember that cross-play only helps when the other platform’s edition and online service are available in your region.
Controllers are not detected on PC
- Connect the controller before launching the game.
- In Steam, open the game’s controller properties and verify that Steam recognizes the device.
- Disconnect duplicate input devices, then relaunch so the game can assign player one and player two cleanly.
- Test the controller in another Steam title. If it fails there too, update its firmware or use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting steps.
Performance is poor despite meeting the minimum
Minimum requirements describe a baseline, not a promised frame rate at every resolution. Close GPU-heavy applications, update the graphics driver, use the default resolution, and compare performance after each change. If your PC is near the minimum processor or graphics specification, the recommended hardware provides more headroom for background tasks and higher-resolution displays.
