How to play Brick by Brick in multiplayer on Steam

To play Brick by Brick with a friend on Steam, one player hosts an online room, shares the room code shown by the game, and the other player enters that code through the join-room flow. After the connection succeeds, you can sort bricks, explore the space and build together over the internet.

The Steam listing confirms both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op. It documents the online room-and-code method, but it does not publish the exact menu names, a player limit, latency requirements or a separate LAN procedure. The steps below therefore use only labels and actions confirmed by the listing, while identifying details you must verify in your current game build.

What multiplayer in Brick by Brick supports

Brick by Brick is a first-person sorting and building sandbox from Budder Technology LLC. Its Steam feature list includes online cooperative play and LAN cooperative play. The store description says players can “Sort, explore, and build together over the internet,” and specifically instructs the host to create an online room and share its room code with a friend.

The cooperative setting fits the game’s main loop. You work around thousands of individual bricks, organize them on shelves, explore the environment and use free-building areas to construct objects. Bricks have physics-based interactions, so pieces can move, fall or scatter. Persistent save files let a session’s work continue, while earthquakes can throw sorted pieces back into disorder. Multiplayer is therefore collaborative construction and organization rather than a separate competitive mode described by the listing.

Logitech G F310 Wired Gamepad Controller Console - Blue/Black | Console-like layout, 4-switch D-pad
  • With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
  • Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
  • A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
  • The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.

The listing also advertises full controller gameplay as well as keyboard and mouse support. A PC game controller is optional; each participant can choose the input method that works best for them.

How to host an online room

The host is the player who creates the session and gives the other player the code. Steam’s published instruction is “Host an online room and share the room code with a friend so they can join your game.” Because the listing does not give the exact button text, look for the game’s online multiplayer or room-hosting option rather than expecting a particular label.

  1. Open the game. Start Brick by Brick from your Steam library and wait until its main menu or session-selection screen appears.
  2. Open the online multiplayer area. Choose the option for online multiplayer, hosting or creating a room. The store page confirms that an online room can be hosted, but it does not specify the menu path or wording in your version.
  3. Create the room. Confirm the host action and wait for the game to generate a session.
  4. Read the room code. The game should display a code associated with the room. Copy it exactly or keep the screen visible while you communicate it.
  5. Send the code privately. Share the code with the friend who will join. A Steam message, voice chat or another private channel is suitable; the code itself is the key detail they need.
  6. Wait for the join. Keep the room open while your friend uses the join flow. Do not close the game or leave the room during this handoff.
  7. Start cooperating. Once the friend appears in the room, begin sorting, exploring or building together.

What the host should prepare

  • Make sure both players have launched the same current Steam build of Brick by Brick.
  • Have the room code ready to resend if a character is mistyped.
  • Decide whether you want to organize shelves, explore first or start a free-building project before inviting the other player.
  • Save important work regularly. The game has persistent save files, but the listing does not promise how multiplayer saves are assigned or synchronized.

How a friend joins with the room code

The joining player does not need to create the room. They use the game’s join-room flow and enter the code supplied by the host. Steam’s description confirms the code-based process but does not publish the exact screen name, field format or whether codes are case-sensitive.

  1. Launch Brick by Brick from Steam.
  2. Open the online multiplayer or join-room option. Look for the action that joins an existing online room; the precise label may differ by build.
  3. Enter the host’s code. Type or paste the code exactly as shown. Check similar-looking characters before submitting.
  4. Confirm the join request. Wait for the game to connect you to the host’s room.
  5. Begin the session. After the room loads, coordinate with the host on sorting, exploration or construction.

If the code is rejected, ask the host to verify that the room is still open and send a fresh copy. The available listing does not state how long a code remains valid, whether codes change after a restart or whether a room can be joined after gameplay has begun.

Online co-op versus LAN co-op

Steam lists both online and LAN cooperative features. Online co-op is the documented method for friends connecting over the internet: one player hosts and the other uses the room code. LAN co-op indicates support for players on the same local network, but the store page does not publish a separate LAN menu sequence.

Online co-op Host an online room, share its room code, and have a friend enter the code through the join flow. Exact menu labels, player limit, latency target, code lifetime and reconnect behavior.
LAN co-op Steam lists LAN Co-op as a supported feature. A documented discovery, invitation or direct-connect procedure.
Steam Remote Play Together Steam Support describes Remote Play Together as a way to invite Steam Friends to supported local co-op sessions remotely. The Brick by Brick listing does not identify Remote Play Together support, so it should not be treated as a confirmed option for this game.

For two people in different homes, use the documented online room-and-code path. For players on the same network, check the game’s current multiplayer screen for a LAN option; do not assume that the online code is also the LAN connection method.

What you can do together

Sort the loose pieces

The starting piles contain roughly 4,000 loose pieces, according to the developer’s Steam description. That figure is a gameplay description, not an independent measurement. In co-op, divide the sorting workload: one player can identify colors or shapes while the other places pieces on the shelf system. Because the game models individual bricks, agree on a shared shelf organization before you begin so both players can find parts.

Explore the space

Exploration is one of the cooperative activities named by the listing. Use it to locate build areas, inspect the environment and decide where to stage sorted parts. The store page does not specify an objective list, map size or exploration unlock system, so treat exploration as free-form discovery rather than following an assumed mission structure.

Build in free-building areas

Free-building areas let players construct together without a separately published set of blueprints or recipes. One person can retrieve and sort components while the other assembles them. Establish who is moving structural pieces and who is collecting parts to reduce accidental interference when physics objects are active.

Manage physics and earthquakes

Brick interactions are physics-based, and earthquakes can send sorted bricks back into chaos. Secure or finish a section before moving on, and expect that an earthquake may undo organization even when both players have worked carefully. The listing does not publish earthquake timing, frequency or a way to disable them, so plan for recovery rather than relying on a predictable warning interval.

Input devices and a practical control setup

Steam lists keyboard and mouse support and full controller gameplay. That means a controller for Steam multiplayer is a relevant optional accessory, not a requirement. You can use keyboard and mouse for precise selection and a controller for movement if the game accepts mixed input, although the listing does not explicitly confirm simultaneous mixed-device play.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Keyboard and mouse: useful when you want direct cursor or camera control while sorting many individual bricks.
  • Controller: useful when you prefer analog movement during exploration or a shared living-room setup.
  • Two different devices: supported input types are confirmed, but the store page does not state whether each player may use a different device in the same room. Test this before committing to a long session.

Before inviting a friend, connect the intended device, confirm that the game responds to it and keep the host’s room code available. Changing devices during a connection may require returning to a menu; no official sequence for hot-swapping is published.

How to organize a productive co-op session

Assign roles before touching the piles

With thousands of pieces, two players can create more disorder if they both grab parts without a plan. Choose a simple division such as color versus shape, shelf section versus shelf section, or sorting versus construction. Reassign roles when the build reaches a new stage.

Use a staging area

Keep pieces for the current project together near the free-building area and leave unrelated parts on their shelves. This reduces search time and limits the number of loose physics objects that can be disturbed by movement.

Communicate structural changes

Tell your partner before moving a large or unstable assembly. Physics-based pieces may fall or scatter, and an earthquake can reset sorted areas. A short callout prevents one player from rebuilding a section the other has just dismantled.

Save at sensible milestones

Persistent save files are part of the game’s feature description. Save after completing a sorting zone, finishing a major structure or recovering from an earthquake. The listing does not explain whether one player, both players or the host controls saving, so verify whose save file records the session before quitting.

Troubleshooting room-code multiplayer

The friend cannot find the join option

Return to the game’s online multiplayer screen and look for an action that joins an existing room. The published information does not provide a fixed label, so a wording difference alone does not indicate a problem. If no online option appears, confirm that both players are running the same current version and that the game has finished loading its main menu.

The code does not work

  1. Ask the host to read the code again and resend it without extra spaces or punctuation.
  2. Confirm that the host’s room is still open.
  3. Have both players leave any previous room and reopen the online multiplayer flow.
  4. Create a new room and try the newly displayed code.

Steam’s listing does not state whether codes expire or distinguish uppercase from lowercase, so these checks cover the known failure points without assuming undocumented behavior.

The connection drops during play

Reopen the online room flow and try the host-and-code process again. No cited official source gives a latency requirement, network diagnostic screen or reconnect command for Brick by Brick. If repeated attempts fail, note whether the failure occurs before the room loads or after gameplay starts; that distinction can help identify whether the issue is room discovery or session stability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The session becomes chaotic after an earthquake

Earthquakes are an advertised gameplay event, not necessarily a network error. Re-sort the affected pieces, restore the build from the persistent save if the game offers that option and agree on a smaller recovery task. The listing does not promise a rollback feature, so do not assume that every scattered arrangement can be automatically restored.

A controller is not responding

Reconnect the controller before launching or re-entering the room, then verify that the game recognizes it in its input settings. Full controller gameplay is listed, but the store page does not identify supported controller models or troubleshooting steps. If the controller still fails, use keyboard and mouse to complete the connection and test the device separately.

Player count, performance and other limits

The cited Steam listing does not state a maximum number of players. Do not infer a two-player cap from the instruction to share a code with “a friend,” and do not promise that a larger group can join. The same sources publish no multiplayer benchmark, minimum bandwidth figure or latency target. Performance can therefore vary with the players’ hardware, network paths and the number of physics objects active, but a game-specific threshold is not established.

The listing also does not describe host migration, dedicated servers, invitations through the Steam overlay, cross-platform play or cross-save behavior. Plan on the room host remaining present unless the current game build clearly provides another method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Release-date and availability note

Steam lists a release date of September 9, 2026. One Steam snapshot also displays stale planned-release wording, so availability should be checked on the live store page and in your Steam library rather than inferred from an older listing capture. This date qualification matters if you are trying to play immediately or troubleshooting why the game is not yet installable in a particular region or account.

Quick checklist before you invite a friend

  • Both players own and have launched Brick by Brick through Steam.
  • The host has opened the online multiplayer or room-hosting option.
  • The host has copied the displayed room code.
  • The friend knows to use the join-room flow, not the host option.
  • Both players have selected keyboard and mouse or a controller.
  • You have agreed on sorting, exploration or building roles.
  • You know that earthquakes can scatter organized bricks.
  • You have identified which persistent save records the shared work.

Bottom line

The confirmed Steam method is straightforward: host an online room, send the displayed room code to your friend, and have them enter it through the game’s join flow. Once connected, you can sort the roughly 4,000 loose pieces described by the developer, explore and build in the same physics-driven sandbox. LAN co-op is listed but not documented step by step, and Remote Play Together is not confirmed for this title. Player limits, latency requirements and several lobby details remain unspecified, so rely on the options shown by your current Steam build rather than assuming features the listing does not promise.
