Barrage rewards players who use cover and watch the angles before crossing its exposed roads. Start by learning the elevated sightlines around Crater, then use the Hill, Gun Pit, and damaged-building routes to move between fights without giving away an easy target.
What is Barrage?
Barrage is a Black Ops 6 multiplayer map set in 1968 Vietnam at Summit Watch, a site associated with Pantheon activity. A huge tree crusher has flattened the surrounding terrain, while battle damage has opened extra passages through buildings. Those openings create useful shortcuts—but opponents can use them too. Activision’s Barrage guide, published April 3, 2025, identifies the map as a Core Season 03 map.

Why are road crossings dangerous?
Barrage’s interconnected roads make it easy to move between points of interest, but crossing them exposes you to fire from surrounding positions. Before stepping into a road, check the minimap and scan nearby angles. The central Crater is especially risky because it sits beneath two elevated positions: an opening in the wall near the Watchtower and the second floor of the Command Center.

Activision’s guide suggests Hunter’s Instinct, which reveals the direction of the next closest enemy after an elimination, as a way to reduce the chance of being flanked.

Landmarks and useful positions
Entrance
Entrance is the named main spawn point. Mossy rocks, vehicles, and the Tree Crusher provide nearby cover. Gate and Storage offer ways into the camp, while the Watchtower provides sightlines over Crater and Hill. Use that view to check the middle before committing to a route.
Crater
Crater is a central, exposed route watched from the Watchtower-side wall opening and the Command Center’s second floor. Water Tower and Barracks offer nearby cover. If you need to cross, avoid lingering in the open and identify which elevated angle could see your path first.
Hill
Hill runs north from Entrance, past the back of Barracks, toward Overlook. Its natural cover and fewer intersecting routes make it a useful choice when defending or building toward a Scorestreak. The Watchtower can help you challenge the middle before you return to the wing.

Gun Pit
The Lower Gun Pit is exposed to fire from Depot and the lower Command Center. Its partly covered boundary leads up steps to the Upper Gun Pit. A shipping container offers a view toward Overlook and the Comms building. Treat the container as a firing position, not guaranteed safety: check the approaches before settling in.
Overlook
The Comms building can help defend Overlook and provide shelter from an enemy aerial Scorestreak. Nearby, a raised platform and a blasted corner of the Command Center connect to the interior; debris forms a ramp into the building. Obstacles on the way toward the Gun Pits can also provide cover.
How to move through the map
- Use the Tree Crusher deliberately. Activision recommends using the dirt on its south side to attack passing enemies from below. You can crouch beneath the machine to switch sides without exposing yourself as much, but watch for opponents approaching from its other angles.
- Check damaged openings. Breaches in Barracks, Command Center, and Comms create alternative entries and exits. They can help you flank or leave a watched lane, but enemies may expect someone to use the same routes.
- Choose cover over the shortest line. Hill and the partly covered Gun Pit boundary can reduce exposure compared with a road crossing. The best route depends on which enemy positions are active, so check the minimap and nearby sightlines before moving.
- Use the Command Center with an exit plan. It overlooks Crater and Overlook and can pivot toward the Gun Pits, making it valuable ground. It also attracts attention from multiple directions; avoid staying fixed on one angle.
Which weapon style suits Barrage?
Activision’s map guide says every weapon class can work, while calling out Marksman Rifles for Barrage’s mid-range sightlines and longer views along roads. That is the guide’s recommendation, not a tested ranking. As a practical choice, consider a Marksman Rifle if you prefer watching longer lanes; choose a closer-range setup if you plan to work confined interiors and covered approaches.

Loadout concepts in Activision’s April 2025 guide
The following are map-focused loadout concepts published by Activision on April 3, 2025. They are not personal test results or evidence of the current competitive meta. Check the game’s current weapon, perk, equipment, and tuning details before using them as written.
Striker
An Assault Rifle paired with the Enforcer Combat Specialty. This is the guide’s straightforward rifle-oriented concept.
Detonator
The guide pairs a SWAT 5.56 Marksman Rifle with the Strategist Combat Specialty, C4, Danger Close Wildcard, Assault Pack, Gearhead, and Dispatcher. Its intended approach combines precision fire with replenishable explosives and lower-cost non-lethal Scorestreaks such as Scout Pulse and UAV.

Trench Gunner
This close-range concept uses a Shotgun/SMG, Recon Combat Specialty, Overkill, Stim Shot, Combat Axe, and Spring Mine. Activision suggests placing the mine along the covered Lower Gun Pit lane, inside Command Center, or in another confined, high-traffic area. The guide also recommends Forward Intel, Ninja, and Cold-Blooded.
What objective modes change
The official multiplayer guide describes Domination as capturing, holding, and defending objectives; Hardpoint as capturing and holding the Hardpoint; and Search & Destroy as alternating between detonating and defusing a bomb, with no respawns. Those fundamentals make cover and route awareness important, but Activision’s Barrage guide does not establish objective coordinates, rotations, or map-specific winning strategies. Avoid assuming a particular position is an objective without checking the in-game markers.
