To play Banjo-Kazooie on Evercade Nexus, use the Evercade Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack cartridge. Insert it into the Nexus, choose the cartridge from the game menu, and launch either Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie. No separate download, account, or online connection is established as necessary for starting the cartridge. The documented release is a physical cartridge.

Which games are on the cartridge?
The Double Pack puts the two Nintendo 64-era platform adventures on one Evercade cartridge:

The cartridge is identified as the Nexus launch cartridge, and every Nexus console includes it according to Evercade Info Central’s product information. That means a Nexus buyer does not need to order a second copy of the Double Pack merely to play both titles.
How to start Banjo-Kazooie on Nexus
- Confirm your hardware. Use an Evercade Nexus or another Evercade device covered by the cartridge’s all-device compatibility claim. If you are buying a console specifically for these games, verify that the bundle still includes the cartridge in your region.
- Locate the cartridge slot. Keep the console powered down if that is the procedure specified by your device manual, and orient the cartridge according to the markings on the Nexus and cartridge. Do not force it; the contacts should seat without unusual resistance.
- Power on the Nexus. The cartridge should appear in the Evercade game interface. A Tom’s Guide hands-on account describes powering on the Nexus with the Banjo cartridge inserted and reaching Spiral Mountain.
- Open the cartridge menu. Select Banjo-Kazooie to begin the first game, or select Banjo-Tooie if you want the sequel. Both are stored on the same physical cartridge.
- Choose your control setup. Nexus has two analogue sticks. Use the stick arrangement that feels natural for movement and camera control; the port also reportedly supplies expanded control options for Evercade devices that do not have two sticks.
- Start the game. Proceed through the title screen and the in-game prompts. The reported hands-on session reached Spiral Mountain, confirming the basic launch path on Nexus.
Why Nexus is a good fit, but not a requirement
These games were designed around three-dimensional movement and camera management. Nexus includes dual analogue sticks, which gives the handheld a control layout that maps more directly to that style of play than a device with only one stick. That is why the cartridge listing calls Nexus an ideal way to experience the pair.
Compatibility is broader than the recommendation. The same listing says the Double Pack works on all Evercade devices. If you already have a compatible Evercade console, buying another handheld is optional. The practical decision is whether you value Nexus’s two-stick controls and built-in screen enough to justify a new console.

The screen, controls, and battery figures above come from the Nexus product information. They should not be read as laboratory measurements or as a promise of identical runtime in every situation.
What is different about the Evercade versions?
A Tom’s Guide hands-on report describes several changes compared with the original console releases. It reports improved resolution and a 60 frames-per-second presentation, along with deeper control choices for Evercade devices without two analogue sticks. It also reports that the Evercade hub can be opened from the pause menu, that bonus cheats are available, and that Stop ’n’ Swop functions in the port.
Those details are observations from that dated hands-on report, not tests performed for this guide. Menu wording, performance, or behaviour can change if Evercade distributes software updates, so treat the report as a description of the reviewed build rather than a guarantee for every future revision.
Source-code and design context
Blaze project manager Chris Deckard said the ports were developed from the ground up for Evercade using the original 64-bit console code as a basis. He described the goal as preserving the feel of the originals while adding modern improvements to presentation and play.

TechRadar attributed a related statement to Blaze Entertainment head of communications Sean Cleaver, who said the team found previously unreleased tracks and a level editor in the source code, then included them along with unlockable bonuses. The statements explain the port’s stated approach; they do not establish that every extra is available immediately in every mode or that the games have been mechanically redesigned.
Cartridge only or Nexus bundle?
Your existing hardware is the first decision point. Use the following comparison before ordering.

Choose the cartridge if you already own Evercade hardware
If a compatible Evercade device is already in your collection, the cartridge is the direct route. You receive both games without paying for a second handheld, and you can decide whether your current control layout is comfortable after trying the reported alternate options.

Nexus makes sense when you have no compatible Evercade system, or when dual analogue sticks and its 5.89-inch IPS display matter more than keeping your existing hardware. The bundle includes the game cartridge, so there is no separate game purchase to add for the initial setup.

Do not choose Nexus for television play
The Nexus product information explicitly says it lacks HDMI output and wireless TV streaming. If playing on a television is a deciding requirement, Nexus does not meet it; select compatible hardware with the required display connection instead, while confirming that the Double Pack supports that device.
Release timing and availability
Evercade Info Central lists the Double Pack’s separate release date as October 30, 2026. The product information was crawled on October 11, 2026, so the date was still in the future at that point. Availability may therefore differ between the Nexus bundle, the standalone cartridge, and different regions.
- Buying a Nexus before the standalone date: check that the bundle description still says the Double Pack is included.
- Waiting for the cartridge: confirm that the October 30 date has passed in your region and that the listing shows stock, not merely a preorder or announcement.
- Checking a retailer: match the product name exactly to Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack; do not assume a generic Banjo listing contains both games.
- Comparing prices: no current price, commission, or verified retailer offer is established here, so use the live regional listing rather than an old announcement.
Controls and play expectations
Nexus’s dual-stick layout is the clearest hardware advantage for these games. One stick can handle character movement while the second is available for camera-oriented input, subject to the game’s own mapping. The exact button assignments are determined by the Evercade port and its on-screen instructions; use those prompts rather than assuming the original console’s layout is identical.

On older Evercade devices without two analogue sticks, the hands-on report says the port provides deeper control options. That makes the cartridge usable beyond Nexus, but it does not make every device’s ergonomics equivalent. A single-stick system may require more camera management through buttons or an alternate mapping, so try the available configuration before deciding that a new console is necessary.

The report’s 60-fps and resolution improvements should also be treated as port characteristics, not as a claim that every display will look identical. Screen size, viewing distance, and the individual device’s panel affect how the result appears.
Troubleshooting a cartridge that does not start
The cartridge is not visible in the menu
- Power the device down using its normal shutdown procedure.
- Remove the cartridge and check that it is the Double Pack, not another Evercade title.
- Inspect the contacts for visible dirt or obstruction and reseat the cartridge without forcing it.
- Power on again and check the game list.
- If the cartridge still does not appear, test it only on another compatible Evercade device if one is available. This helps distinguish a cartridge issue from a console-slot issue.
Do not treat a missing menu entry as evidence that the cartridge is incompatible with Nexus; the listing specifically identifies the Double Pack as the Nexus launch cartridge. If a newly purchased cartridge remains unreadable after reseating, use the seller or manufacturer support process and keep proof of purchase.
The wrong game opens
Both titles share one cartridge. Return to the cartridge’s game-selection screen and choose the other title. Starting one game does not require removing the cartridge.

Only Nexus has the dual-stick hardware described in the product specifications. On another Evercade model, use the port’s reported expanded control options and consult that device’s button layout. A missing physical stick is a hardware difference, not a cartridge fault.
You expected television output
Nexus has no HDMI output and no wireless TV streaming according to the product information. The built-in display is the intended Nexus screen; use other compatible Evercade hardware if external display support is essential.
The standalone cartridge is unavailable
Check the date and region first. The separately listed release date is October 30, 2026, and stock was not established by the product information used here. The Nexus bundle may be the available route before or around that date, but confirm its current listing rather than assuming availability.
A practical buying checklist
- Do you already own an Evercade device? If yes, verify that it is covered by the all-device compatibility claim before buying a console.
- Do you specifically want two analogue sticks? If yes, Nexus is the relevant hardware option described here.
- Do you need to play on a television? If yes, Nexus is unsuitable because it has neither HDMI output nor wireless TV streaming.
- Are you buying before October 30, 2026? Check whether the standalone cartridge is still pending and whether the Nexus bundle includes it.
- Are you comparing prices? Use a current regional listing; no stable price is supplied by the available product information.
