Yes, you can play ARC Raiders solo, but solo play is not offline single-player and does not by itself disable PvP. During Embark’s limited PvE matchmaking beta, scheduled for October 13 at 11:00 CEST through October 20 at 11:00 CEST, 2026, use the in-game PvE option if you want to avoid player-to-player damage. Outside that test—or if the option is unavailable—your best approach is to limit exposure, plan an exit, and leave optional encounters rather than treating a peaceful run as guaranteed.

Choose the kind of solo run you want

ARC Raiders is an online multiplayer extraction game. A solo run means entering Topside without a squad; it does not mean playing offline or entering a world without other Raiders. The central loop is to scavenge, deal with hostile ARC machines and other risks, then return safely to Speranza. The PlayStation description and FAQ characterize the game as multiplayer-only while confirming that it can be played solo.

That distinction matters when setting expectations. In ordinary matchmaking, another player may ignore you, cooperate, or attack. Nothing about queuing alone obliges them to leave you alone, and a voice chat exchange or friendly emote is not a protective rule. If your goal is to avoid PvP as much as possible, first check whether the limited PvE beta is available. If not, treat each ordinary run as risk management, not as a way to guarantee a PvP-free match.

Pick a goal before you enter

Decide whether the run is for a quest, one needed resource, or a short loot-and-extract trip. A narrow goal makes it easier to decide when you have done enough. Continuing deeper into a raid for marginal extra loot means spending more time exposed to both ARC and Raiders. That is a practical consequence of the scavenging-and-extraction loop, not a promise about how much safer a short run will be.

  • WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion

Also decide what counts as success before you deploy. For a quest, it may be completing the interaction even if you extract with little loot. For a resource run, it may be collecting the target material and leaving by the nearest suitable exit. A clear stopping point helps prevent the common solo dilemma of risking a completed objective just because a nearby building might contain more.

What the October 2026 PvE beta changes

Embark announced a PvE matchmaking toggle beta running from October 13, 2026, at 11:00 CEST through October 20, 2026, at 11:00 CEST. Embark’s October 13 update says the test is live. It is a temporary test, not a confirmed permanent mode; the company says player feedback and in-game data will help it decide whether to keep the toggle. Check the current in-game menu and official updates because availability can change after the announced end date.

The beta is the clearest available option for someone who wants to avoid player-versus-player combat during its window. Embark says players can switch between the regular PvPvE experience and PvE servers. In PvE, player-to-player damage is disabled. That changes one major risk, but it does not turn Topside into a safe or offline environment: ARC enemies and extraction risk remain.

What matters PvE beta Standard solo PvPvE
Can another Raider damage you? Player-to-player damage is disabled during the beta. Other Raiders remain part of the online match and may attack.
Loot value Embark says overall loot value is lower. The beta announcement describes this as the regular PvPvE experience, without giving a comparable loot figure.
Map-condition eligibility Unavailable for Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate, and Redirection. The beta announcement does not list these conditions as exclusions from standard matchmaking.
ARC and extraction risk ARC threats remain; reaching an exit is still part of the run. ARC threats and player encounters both remain.
Wait time Embark says queue times may be affected in low-population regions and during quiet hours. The announcement does not give a comparable wait-time estimate.

Other rules are worth knowing before you choose the beta. Throwables—including stun and fire items—do not work on other players in PvE. Other physical-interaction items, such as barricades and ziplines, remain unaffected. The mode does not prioritize separating groups by squad size, so differently sized groups may meet more often. PvE is unavailable for the five named map conditions in the table; if the option is missing, check the current condition rather than assuming the toggle has been removed.

Being downed is not the same as being out of danger

ARC enemies remain a threat in the beta. Embark says a downed player has an eight-second grace period before ARC can reacquire them. After that, ARC may attack if it catches the player moving. Do not read the grace period as a general safety timer or as protection from the rest of the extraction environment. The useful takeaway is narrower: even where Raiders cannot damage one another, ARC combat and getting out alive still shape the run.

What the beta does not promise

The test does not establish that PvE will remain available after October 20, 2026, or that every map condition will support it. Embark says standard matchmaking will continue to apply during PvPvE sessions while it gathers data about how the toggle affects those sessions. The announcement also warns that waits may be affected in low-population regions and at quiet times. If the option is unavailable or queues are inconvenient, the standard-mode plan below reduces avoidable exposure but cannot eliminate PvP.

Embark described the toggle as a test in its October 12 announcement: “This is a test, and to get the very best data, we need you to play, experience the changes, and leave us as much feedback as possible.” That framing is why it is more accurate to call this a dated beta than a permanent PvE mode.

Plan a lower-exposure run in standard matchmaking

When you are not using the PvE beta, your goal is not to outfight every Raider. It is to get the objective done while creating fewer reasons to stay in contested areas. Epic Games Store’s beginner guide recommends learning resource areas and extraction locations, and notes that a player selecting a map while alone can enter a solo run and is more often matched with other solo players. “More often” is not a guarantee that every other Raider is alone or peaceful.

  1. Choose solo deliberately. Use the solo option when entering without a squad. Treat it as a matchmaking choice, not a PvP-off setting. Expect that other players may still be present.
  2. Set a limited objective. Name the quest, resource, or short loot route you are pursuing. Decide in advance what is enough so you are not tempted to extend the run for low-priority loot.
  3. Review the current map condition. Official PlayStation information describes weather, time, and special conditions as factors that can change a run. Re-check the active condition instead of relying on a route remembered from another rotation.
  4. Identify an exit before committing to a route. Learn where Raider Hatches, Cargo Elevators, and Airshafts are on the map you selected. Consider whether your target area has a practical way out before you travel toward it.
  5. Bring gear proportionate to the goal. The beginner guide describes a loadout with an augment, shield, up to two weapons, ammunition, and consumable or throwable items, as well as a Free Loadout option. For a low-stakes run, a free or inexpensive loadout can limit what you put at risk if the run fails; it does not guarantee survival.
  6. Leave when the objective is complete or the route turns risky. If you have the needed item, do not keep searching just because you can. If a Raider appears and fighting is optional, change direction or leave the area rather than turning a resource run into a duel.

Use the route as a decision, not just a line on the map

A route is useful only if it connects the objective to a realistic exit. Before moving toward a target, think through three questions: how much of the map you need to cross, what alternate path you can take if the area is busy, and which extraction option you can reach afterward. This is a planning framework based on the game’s scavenging and extraction structure, not an official safety rating. No route can be called reliably safe from the available information.

Keep the run’s value and exposure in proportion. A quest-critical item may justify crossing a busier area; a minor pickup may not. A longer route can expose you to more encounters, but a shorter route is not automatically safe if it crosses a hotspot or leaves you without a workable exit. Reconsider the plan when the current map condition suggests congestion or when you encounter activity that makes continuing a poor trade.

Use a conservative loadout without confusing it with protection

Think of the loadout as the amount of gear you are willing to risk for the objective, not as a guarantee that you can win a fight. The described slots include an augment, shield, as many as two weapons, ammunition, and consumable or throwable items. Bring what supports your goal and your ability to disengage; avoid loading up for a fight you are trying not to have. The Free Loadout is an available option described in the beginner guide, but the source does not establish that it is sufficient for every map or task.

In the PvE beta, remember that stun and fire throwables do not affect other players because player-to-player damage and effects are disabled as described by Embark. Physical-interaction items such as barricades and ziplines remain unaffected. Those rules are specific to the beta; do not assume they apply in ordinary PvPvE.

Break contact rather than testing another player’s intentions

If a Raider is nearby, moving away or abandoning a contested area is consistent with a low-PvP objective. Do not assume that a wave, emote, voice line, or apparently cooperative approach is enforceable protection. The official game description warns that Raiders may prey on others, and the standard mode remains multiplayer. If continuing toward the original target would require trusting a stranger, weigh the target against the gear and progress already at risk.

Audio awareness may help you notice activity, but do not treat it as a guarantee. Official January 2026 patch notes mention changes to outdoor footsteps and footstep audio. That makes listening relevant to awareness; the cited information does not establish that a particular headset guarantees detection or prevents an ambush.

Let map conditions change the plan

Weather, time, and special conditions can change the character of a run, so check the current map details before deploying. A remembered route is a starting point, not proof that the same area will be quiet today. The PvE beta’s exclusions make that check especially important: Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate, and Redirection are not eligible for PvE during the test, according to Embark’s announcement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

One concrete example comes from official January 2026 notes: the Buried City Bird City condition could bring more combat around rooftops and put more players in proximity. That is an example of a condition changing the encounter picture, not a permanent forecast for every current rotation. If the active condition points toward concentrated activity near your objective, consider a different objective or a shorter route rather than assuming the area will behave as it did on a previous visit.

Decision check before leaving Speranza

  • Is the run eligible for the mode you want? During the beta, confirm that the PvE option is available for the active condition.
  • Can you explain the objective in one sentence? If not, narrow it to one quest, resource, or manageable loot goal.
  • Do you know at least one exit that fits the route? Check the map’s extraction options before committing.
  • Is the equipment proportionate to the value at stake? Use a free or inexpensive loadout for a low-stakes attempt if that suits your risk tolerance.
  • What will make you leave early? Decide whether a crowded target, a completed objective, or a missed route is enough reason to extract or redirect.

These checks are intended to make decisions explicit; they are not official matchmaking controls or a formula proven to reduce encounters by a particular percentage.

How much behavior-based matchmaking can you count on?

Embark has confirmed that matchmaking analyzes player behavior, but has not publicly described the full system. In a PC Gamer interview published December 15, 2025, ARC Raiders art director Robert Sammelin said: “Without going into excruciating detail, it is quite complex. We do analyze behavior and match accordingly.” That establishes that behavior is considered; it does not reveal every factor or promise that a player who avoids fights will reliably receive peaceful lobbies.

Later GamesRadar reporting described an Embark clarification that only PvP fights a player chooses to initiate affect the playstyle estimate, while defensive actions have no influence. The report framed this as an adjustment during a trial period. Taken together, the reporting supports a limited conclusion: behavior can matter to matchmaking, and the company has discussed how initiated PvP is treated. It does not support a repeatable matchmaking exploit, a guarantee of friendly encounters, or a precise prediction of whom you will meet.

Do not enter a match expecting that a few peaceful runs will immediately produce a safe lobby. Play for the objective and extraction in front of you. If avoiding PvP is essential, the announced PvE beta is a more direct option during its availability window; behavior-based matchmaking is not a substitute for the toggle.

Choose between the beta and an ordinary solo run

The practical choice is a trade-off, not simply “safe” versus “dangerous.” The beta removes player-to-player damage during the test but lowers overall loot value, excludes five named conditions, and leaves ARC threats and extraction risk. Ordinary solo PvPvE does not carry those beta-specific exclusions, but other Raiders can be part of the encounter. Use the comparison table above when the beta is available; outside it, decide whether the run’s objective is worth the remaining exposure.

Use the PvE beta when the conditions fit

Choose it if avoiding player damage is more important to you than the lower loot value and the condition currently supports the mode. It can be particularly relevant for a solo player who wants to focus on a quest or resource without fighting another Raider. Still plan around ARC and the exit, and account for potentially longer waits during quiet hours or in low-population regions.

Use standard matchmaking when the beta is unavailable or unsuitable

If the active condition is excluded, the test has ended, or you choose the regular experience, the solo plan remains an exposure-reduction strategy. Keep the objective short, route toward an exit you have identified, avoid fights that do not serve the goal, and be willing to leave a contested area. Do not interpret “solo” or behavior-informed matching as a promise of peace.

Keep the beta date in view

Embark’s announced test runs through October 20, 2026, at 11:00 CEST. That date is a boundary on the published beta schedule, not evidence that the PvE toggle will disappear permanently or remain afterward. The October 13 update says feedback and in-game data will inform whether it becomes permanent. For a later run, verify the live menu and a newer official announcement rather than assuming the October test rules still apply.
