Select a map while alone and the game starts a solo run; Epic’s guide says solo players are commonly matched with other solo players. You still face ARC machines, rival Raiders, and the same extraction pressure as a squad, but you have no teammate to revive you, share carrying capacity, or cover a retreat. The reliable solo objective is therefore simple: deploy, take only the loot you can protect, survive the trip, and extract.
ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure set on a future Earth threatened by mechanized ARC machines. You scavenge the surface, return to Speranza, sell or craft with what you recover, improve your character and workshops, and repeat. A failed run normally costs the gear you carried in and the haul you found; items stored in your Safe Pocket are the important exception.

What solo play in ARC Raiders actually means
The official PlayStation description says squads and solo players compete for resources and a safe extraction. Epic’s October 29, 2025 guide confirms that you can select a map alone, that the game supports crossplay, and that a squad can contain up to three players. Solo matchmaking is not a private, enemy-free mode: other Raiders may be alone or part of a squad, and ARC machines remain active threats.

The game launched on October 30, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, according to an ARC Raiders UK beginner guide dated October 12, 2026. Live-service maps, matchmaking rules, and events can change, so check the current in-game map and queue descriptions before relying on a temporary rule.
The solo raid loop: deploy, loot, survive, extract
1. Deploy with a purpose
Choose a map and a first destination before loading in. Mark a nearby extraction option mentally or on the map, then identify one fallback route. This prevents the common solo error of wandering until the bag is full and only then discovering that the nearest exit is across an exposed area.
2. Loot for progression, not for a full backpack
Containers provide experience even when empty, according to the beginner guidance, but searching takes several seconds and makes noise. Take items that advance a quest, unlock crafting, or have enough value to justify the risk. Inventory space is a survival resource: every low-value object you keep can prevent you from taking a rare component later.
3. Survive the information war
Noise tells nearby players where you are. Container searches, footsteps, gunfire, shield recharge, explosions, and abilities can all reveal a position. The same audio cues also reveal another Raider’s direction or a fight that you can avoid. Stop moving for a moment before opening a container, listen for an approach, and do not assume an apparently quiet building is unoccupied.
4. Extract before greed changes the odds
Extraction converts the haul into progression. If you die, you normally lose your carried equipment and collected loot, except for items protected in the Safe Pocket. A modest haul that reaches Speranza is worth more than a theoretically excellent haul lost while chasing one final container.
Build a low-risk solo loadout
Use Free Loadout while learning
Epic recommends a Free Loadout when learning a map or practicing combat. It supplies low-tier equipment and some ammunition without putting your high-tier gear at risk. The trade-off is reduced inventory and Safe Pocket capacity, so use it for route knowledge and weapon practice rather than for a high-value farming run.

Pack for escape, not a perfect fight
The loadout system supports up to two weapons, their ammunition, quick-use consumables, augments, and a Safe Pocket. A practical solo kit includes:
- A primary weapon whose ammunition you can replenish reliably on the chosen map.
- A second weapon for a different range or target type, rather than two guns that consume the same scarce ammunition.
- Healing and shield-recovery items, with enough reserve to recover after an unavoidable encounter.
- An augment that supports your route or movement plan instead of one chosen only for maximum damage.
- Safe Pocket space reserved for items whose loss would damage future progress.
Carry the correct ammunition for every equipped weapon. Entering with an attractive gun but no compatible rounds turns the weapon slot into dead weight and encourages desperate looting in dangerous areas.
Prioritize Safe Pocket contents
Use protected slots for quest items, keys, blueprints, rare components, and expensive crafting materials. A useful priority order is:
- Quest items and rare components.
- Keys and blueprints that unlock future opportunities.
- ARC parts, medical supplies, and ammunition needed for your next run.
- Core crafting materials.
- Common junk, only when space remains.
Safe Pocket rules make a failed run less damaging, but they do not make it harmless. Your weapons, armor, ordinary backpack contents, and unprotected consumables remain at risk.
Plan a route before the first container
Choose a first area and a fallback exit
Start near a landmark that matches your objective, then decide how you will leave if the area is contested. A quiet route through lower-value buildings can outperform a direct path through a famous landmark when it preserves stamina and keeps your extraction window open.

Compare every route on four axes:
| Question | Why it matters solo |
|---|---|
| Noise exposure | Searches, gunfire, machines, and loud exits can attract players or additional ARC units. |
| Time to an exit | A short route leaves more time to listen, heal, and reposition before departure. |
| Loot value | Higher-value areas are worthwhile only if you can carry the haul out. |
| Cost of failure | A lost run discards carried gear and unprotected loot, so expensive kits demand a clearer exit plan. |
Keep stamina as an emergency resource
Do not sprint everywhere. Leave part of the stamina bar available for breaking line of sight, crossing an exposed gap, or reaching an extraction point after an ambush. Movement and positioning usually create a safer solo advantage than chasing a wounded player.

Treat audio settings as equipment
Use headphones and a sound mix that makes positional cues easy to hear. Footsteps, gunfire, looting, shield recharge, explosions, and abilities are all useful information. If music or effects mask those cues, you are voluntarily giving up warning time.
A deliberate solo looting method
Search compact areas one building at a time
Enter a small cluster of buildings, clear the immediate approaches visually, and search only what you can monitor. Container interaction lasts several seconds, so do not start it beside an open doorway or while facing away from the likely approach. After each search, pause and listen before moving to the next object.
Use the empty-container XP correctly
Container XP is awarded even when the container has no useful item. That makes selective searching viable: you can gain progression without insisting that every container produce sellable loot. If your bag is nearly full, prioritize containers along your exit route and skip isolated objects that require a long detour.
Stop when the backpack becomes a liability
Leave when the bag is full, when a high-value item has filled the space you came for, or when your route becomes exposed. Overloaded players make poor choices because they feel compelled to defend a large haul. A clean extraction with room for future runs is better than a slow retreat while carrying low-value clutter.
Repack mentally after every fight
After looting a defeated player or a dangerous area, check ammunition, healing, shield charges, stamina, and Safe Pocket contents. Discard common junk before taking a valuable component. Then relocate; the gunfire that ended one encounter may have advertised your position to a second attacker.
When to fight ARC machines and other Raiders
Do not treat every alert as a required objective
Epic warns that alerts can draw more robots and players. A fight is justified when it protects your route, secures a quest objective, or removes a threat that would otherwise trap you. It is usually a poor trade when it only offers a small amount of extra loot in an area with several approaches.

Match weapons to ARC armor
Consider the ARC Armor Penetration stat when selecting weapons. Epic’s examples identify Ferro and Hullcracker as stronger against machines than Kettle, Stitcher, or Bobcat. That comparison is about effectiveness against ARC targets, not a universal ranking for every player-versus-player situation. Use the weapon whose penetration and ammunition fit the target you expect to face.

Footsteps and gunfire can indicate another Raider’s direction. Looting or shield-recharge sounds may reveal a vulnerable player, but your own interaction and recharge sounds can reveal you too. Listen from cover, identify whether the sound is moving toward or away from you, and choose avoidance when the information is incomplete.
If you win, move before you loot
Heal and relocate after combat before opening the fallen player’s inventory. The original fight may have attracted a second Raider, and the body is an obvious place to watch. Take only the items that matter, then leave by a route that is not the one an observer would expect.
Disengage without bargaining with sunk costs
If armor is damaged, stamina is low, ammunition is running short, or a second threat appears, break contact. You do not need to recover every round fired or prove that the encounter was winnable. Solo success is measured by the number of valuable raids you extract from, not by the number of fights you begin.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Extraction options and how to use them
Identify exits while moving, not after the backpack is full. Epic lists Raider Hatches, Cargo Elevators, Airshafts, and other extraction points. The current beginner guide notes that loud elevators and metro stations announce departure, while a Raider Hatch is quieter but requires a key.
Recommended Free Tools
| Exit type | Known characteristic | Solo decision |
|---|---|---|
| Raider Hatch | Quieter than loud exits; requires a key. | Prefer it when you already have the key and the route is safe enough to reach it. |
| Cargo Elevator | Loud departure announcement. | Use when it is close, you can watch the approaches, and the time saved outweighs the noise. |
| Metro station | Departure is announced loudly. | Prepare for attention; arrive early enough to secure cover rather than standing beside the zone. |
| Airshaft or other listed exit | The supplied guidance does not establish a universal noise or timing profile. | Inspect the in-game indicator and surrounding approaches before committing. |
Call the exit early
Begin the extraction process before the final moments. Calling early gives you time to hear an approaching player, cancel or reposition if necessary, and choose a fallback. Watch the likely approaches while the exit activates.

Stand inside, not beside, the extraction zone
Once the exit is available, step fully inside rather than hovering next to it. Standing outside exposes you to attackers and can waste the final seconds of the window. Keep enough stamina to reach the entrance if you hear footsteps.
Choose a loud exit intentionally
A noisy elevator is not automatically wrong. If it is close, your route is already watched, and a keyed hatch would require a dangerous detour, the loud option may have the lower overall risk. Compare time, noise, cover, and the value already in your bag instead of following a universal “quiet is always best” rule.
What to do after a successful extraction
Turn the haul into future capacity
Back in Speranza, sell or recycle duplicates, retain core crafting materials, advance trader quests, and upgrade one workshop station at a time. The official PlayStation page describes selling loot and using it for crafting and upgrades. The current beginner guidance specifically recommends keeping metal parts, mechanical parts, and fabric and starting with the Gunsmith or Utility Station.
Spend skill points around a clear purpose
The official progression paths are survival, mobility, and conditioning. For a new solo player, early movement and stamina investment is a practical priority because stamina determines whether you can escape a bad engagement. Add survival utility after you can reliably reposition, then specialize around the routes and weapons you actually use.
Prepare the next run from the previous one
Before redeploying, replace missing ammunition, restock healing and shield recovery, check that both weapons have compatible rounds, and move quest items or rare components into the Safe Pocket. A minute of preparation prevents an avoidable death caused by entering with an empty consumable slot or the wrong ammunition.
Solo mistakes and their fixes
- Sprinting between every building: Walk or use controlled movement until you need the speed; preserve stamina for an escape.
- Opening containers in the open: Move to cover, face the likely approach, search, then pause to listen.
- Carrying common junk past the point of value: Discard low-value items when a quest object or rare component appears.
- Starting a fight because a machine noticed you: Break line of sight and relocate if the encounter does not protect your objective.
- Looting immediately after a kill: Heal, move, listen, and return only if the area remains defensible.
- Waiting until the bag is full to think about extraction: Mark an exit at the start and call it before the final minutes.
- Standing next to, rather than inside, an exit: Enter the extraction zone and keep stamina for the last approach.
- Risking a high-tier kit while learning a map: Use Free Loadout to learn landmarks, timings, and machine behavior.
- Spending every skill point randomly: Build around mobility and stamina first, then add survival utility and other specialization.
A repeatable solo decision framework
- Before deployment: Pick the map objective, load compatible ammunition, reserve Safe Pocket space, and identify a first exit plus a fallback.
- On landing: Move to a compact loot area without sprinting continuously; listen before interacting.
- During looting: Search deliberately, take progression items first, and stop when the bag or route becomes unsafe.
- When contact occurs: Decide whether the fight protects your route. If not, disengage and preserve stamina.
- After combat: Relocate, heal, reload, and only then take the most valuable items.
- At a reasonable haul: Start toward extraction rather than waiting for maximum capacity.
- At the exit: Call early, watch approaches, choose a hatch or loud exit according to actual distance and risk, and step fully inside.
- After returning to Speranza: Secure protected items, sell or recycle duplicates, restock, and upgrade one useful station.
Temporary matchmaking changes
The official ARC Raiders site described a PvE matchmaking-toggle beta running October 13–20, 2026. That is a time-limited live-service test, not evidence of a permanent solo or PvE queue. If the toggle appears in your current client, read its in-game description and treat its availability and rules as temporary.
The solo win condition
ARC Raiders rewards restraint. Select a map alone, carry a loadout you can replace, use sound to gather information, protect high-value items in the Safe Pocket, keep stamina for disengagement, and leave while the route is still favorable. Quiet, repeatable extractions build more progression than spectacular runs that end with a full backpack on the ground.
