If your TV does not have YouTube, Airtel’s Xstream Box is one documented option; on a compatible setup, you can also cast YouTube from your phone.
What you need
- An Airtel Xstream Fiber internet connection and its home Wi-Fi network.
- A television with the YouTube app, or a compatible streaming device connected to the TV.
- The name of the playlist, station, genre or creator you want to hear.
The Fiber connection provides internet access; it does not by itself add YouTube to a television. Airtel documents YouTube on its Xstream Box, but a separate box is unnecessary if your TV already has a YouTube app. Airtel’s guide to watching YouTube on TV and its Xstream FAQ describe the box’s YouTube and connectivity support.

Play the playlist on your TV
- Choose the device. Use the TV’s own YouTube app if available. Otherwise, use a streaming device that supports YouTube. Airtel’s Xstream TV guide says YouTube is pre-installed on its Xstream Box.
- Connect it to Airtel Wi-Fi. Open the TV or box’s network settings, select your home Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Menu names differ by model. Airtel says Xstream TV needs Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot for internet access; the Xstream Box manual shows Wi-Fi selection during setup.
- Open YouTube and search. Search by playlist name, radio station, genre or creator. Select the playlist and start playback. The exact search results and controls depend on the current YouTube app and device.
Cast YouTube from a phone
If the TV setup supports casting, connect the phone and TV or streaming box to the home network, open YouTube on the phone, tap the Cast control and select the TV or Xstream Box. Airtel documents Chromecast support and smartphone casting for the Xstream Box. Casting is optional; use the TV app directly if that is simpler.

Airtel documents the Xstream Box’s capabilities, but that does not establish it as the best or cheapest choice for every household. If you are considering additional hardware, check the device’s YouTube and casting compatibility before buying.

TV playback, ads and screen-off behavior
YouTube’s Premium benefits and supported devices information says Premium benefits such as ad-free music videos are available on supported TV-connected devices when signed in. It distinguishes living-room devices from mobile apps: offline and background play are available in the YouTube, YouTube Kids and YouTube Music mobile apps, and YouTube Music is not available as a living-room-device app. Do not assume that a playlist on a TV will keep playing with the screen off.
Membership features and eligibility can change. On 12 March 2026, the YouTube Team announced that Premium Lite background play and downloads were rolling out in India for most videos, distinguishing those features from full YouTube Premium background play for music content and YouTube Music Premium. Check YouTube’s announcement and current membership terms for availability; do not assume the same plan benefits apply in every country or to every type of content.

Troubleshoot common playback problems
- YouTube is missing from the TV. Check whether the TV has a YouTube app or whether one is available for its platform. Otherwise, use a compatible streaming device such as the documented Xstream Box; Fiber alone does not install the app.
- The app opens but cannot play a video. Check that the TV or box is connected to Airtel Wi-Fi and can access the internet. Airtel also documents a mobile hotspot as an internet option for Xstream TV.
- The phone cannot find the TV when casting. Confirm that the TV or box supports casting and that the intended compatible setup is available on the network. If casting is not convenient, open YouTube directly on the TV or box.
- The playlist stops when the TV screen is off. TV-connected playback is not the same as background playback in a mobile app. Check the device and current YouTube membership terms rather than assuming screen-off playback is supported.
Airtel’s published information does not establish a minimum broadband speed or guarantee uninterrupted playback for a particular playlist. The precise menus and available features vary by TV, box, software and YouTube app.
