If your launcher is already stopping at a sign-in screen, you may need to connect to the internet before you can play: offline access usually has to be set up while you are online. Sign in, update the launcher and game, start the game online at least once, then enable the launcher’s supported offline mode if the game allows it. A launcher’s offline setting cannot make an always-online game work offline.
Can you get past a sign-in prompt without internet?
Not necessarily. For Steam, Valve says that if the client requires a login, there is no supported way to bypass it without going online. Offline mode must already have been set up successfully. If Steam is asking you to sign in and will not accept saved credentials, reconnect and authenticate before trying to disconnect again. This is not a universal launcher rule, but it is a useful distinction: offline play is a feature to prepare, not a workaround for a sign-in requirement you are already blocked by. Avoid unofficial launcher modifications or attempts to bypass account checks; they are not supported and may put your account or game files at risk.

- Connect to the internet and sign in to Steam with Remember me checked.
- Let Steam and the game finish updating. Launch the game once while online so it can complete any first-run setup.
- Confirm Steam has saved your credentials and that the game reaches a playable state.
- In Steam, select Steam > Go Offline before disconnecting from the internet.
Valve notes that games requiring an active connection or an external launcher will not work in Steam Offline Mode. A game may therefore fail offline even when Steam itself is in offline mode.

Prepare an EA app game for offline play
- Connect to the internet and sign in to the EA app.
- Launch the game online at least once.
- In the EA app, choose the option to go offline before disconnecting.
- Start the game from the EA app while offline. If you close the app, expect to switch it to offline mode again the next time you open it.
EA says only games that do not require an internet connection can be played this way. Its support article states that a game works offline for 30 days from its last online launch; that is EA’s stated eligibility window, not a general rule for other launchers. Why offline mode may still not work
- The game needs a live connection. Some titles depend on online authentication or services during play, so a launcher’s offline mode is not enough.
- A second launcher is involved. A game that opens an external launcher may need that launcher to sign in separately.
- First-run setup is incomplete. The game may need an online launch to finish setup, download required files, or apply a required patch.
- Offline access has expired. Some launchers impose a time limit since the last online launch; EA, for example, states a 30-day window.
- Online features are unavailable. Multiplayer, leaderboards, cloud saves, and other connected features may not be accessible even if the single-player game launches.
Game-specific exceptions matter
Publisher policies can vary by title and patch, so an example should not be treated as a promise for every game from the same publisher. Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora listing says offline mode is available after the mandatory day-one patch has been downloaded. For The Crew 2, Ubisoft describes a specific offline mode with separate offline and online saves; multiplayer, leaderboards, user-generated content, and other online systems are unavailable offline.

If you are blocked, use this checklist
- Reconnect if the launcher will not authenticate or accept its saved sign-in.
- Update the launcher and game, then launch the game online at least once.
- Set offline mode inside the launcher before disconnecting.
- Check the official support page for your exact game and launcher, especially if the title uses a second launcher or recently received a patch.
- If the game requires a continuous internet connection, there is no supported launcher setting that will make it playable offline.
