In Disney Dreamlight Valley’s limited-time Rescue Mission, you do not place the odd decorations in Build Mode. You must find and interact with five glowing green objects that look out of place on the first floor of Oogie Boogie’s Mirror Lair. After that investigation, equip Zero, recover the diary, fish two items from the lava pit, collect Goofy’s flower and 10 Dream Shards, craft two Extra Strength Bug Sprays, and deliver them to Merlin and Scrooge McDuck.
This guide gives the exact route, the prerequisites, and every required conversation and item through the final talk with Oogie Boogie.

Check the quest prerequisites and event window
Rescue Mission is part of the time-limited Halloween content. The quest database records an unlock date of October 14, 2026 and an availability end date of November 4, 2026. If you are reading this after November 4, check the current in-game event schedule before planning a playthrough, because a limited-time quest may no longer be available.

Once those conditions are met, open the Rescue Mission quest letter from a mailbox. The letter points you toward Oogie Boogie’s Mirror Lair. You enter it through the glowing green mirror inside Scrooge McDuck’s shop.
Enter the Mirror Lair and identify the correct objects
The first objective is an investigation, not a decorating assignment. Every target is on the first floor, and each one is a glowing green decoration that looks conspicuously out of place. Normal furniture and scenery do not count.
You can inspect the five objects in any order. There is no build-mode arrangement, placement grid, or furniture menu involved: walk up to a target and use the game’s normal interact command. The objective advances as each correct object is counted.
The five odd decorations: exact locations

Use the room landmarks rather than a fixed order
The room’s largest landmarks make a reliable sweep. Start on the left by the couch and stairs, check the plant around the staircase, then inspect the lantern by the stew counter. Cross toward the counter behind the central lava pit for the potion bottles, and finish in the right corner near the couch and crafting station.
This route is only a navigation aid. The game does not require a particular sequence, and finding an item early or late does not change the quest.

What does not count
Do not spend time interacting with every green-looking prop or rearranging ordinary furniture. The required set is specifically the polar bear, hanging plant, wall lantern, potion bottles, and pedestal. If an object is not one of those five targets, it will not advance the investigation objective.
What happens after all five decorations are counted
When the fifth correct interaction registers, the next objective is to confront Oogie Boogie about the Ghosties. Talk to him inside the lair. That conversation changes the quest from the room investigation to the recovery mission.

- Open Wardrobe.
- Choose Companion.
- Open Notable Companion.
- Equip Zero.
Zero must be equipped before the diary objective can appear. Simply having Zero unlocked is not enough for this step.
Return with Zero and recover the Oogie Boogie Diary
Enter the Mirror Lair again and talk to Oogie Boogie. Keep him distracted while Zero searches. After Zero drops the diary, pick up the Oogie Boogie Diary on the first floor/downstairs area.

If the diary is not available, check the dependency in order: the five decorations must have been counted, the conversation with Oogie must be complete, Merlin must have been visited, and Zero must be equipped as the active companion. Returning to the lair without completing those steps will not substitute for the required sequence.

The large central lava pit is also the fishing area for this quest. Equip the Royal Fishing Rod and cast at ripple spots in the pit. You need exactly:
- One Lava Core
- One Skeleton Fish
Both items come from the lava-pit ripple spots, so do not search ordinary water for them. Keep fishing until one of each required item has been obtained, then move on to the character and crafting objectives.
Get Goofy’s flower and the Dream Shards
Collect the fragrant flower from Goofy
Talk to Goofy to obtain his fragrant, perfectly tended flower. The walkthrough identifies this quest flower as a Dandelion. If the objective still shows the flower as missing, speak with Goofy rather than trying to substitute a flower from your inventory.
Gather 10 Dream Shards
Collect 10 Dream Shards. The quest requires ten total, so check the objective counter before opening the crafting menu. This quantity is separate from the Lava Core, Skeleton Fish, and Goofy’s flower.

Craft the two Extra Strength Bug Sprays
With the lava-pit catches, Goofy’s flower, and 10 Dream Shards secured, use a crafting station. Select the quest recipe for Extra Strength Bug Spray and craft two sprays.
Use the quest recipe shown in your crafting interface rather than attempting to assemble an equivalent item manually. The objective is quantity-sensitive: one spray is not enough, because one must be delivered to each of two characters.
Deliver the sprays and finish Rescue Mission
- Give one Extra Strength Bug Spray to Merlin.
- Give the second Extra Strength Bug Spray to Scrooge McDuck.
- Return to the Mirror Lair.
- Talk to Oogie Boogie to complete Rescue Mission.
The final Oogie conversation is the completion trigger. If the quest remains active after speaking with Merlin and Scrooge, verify that both sprays were crafted and handed over individually, then return to Oogie rather than searching for another decoration.

Troubleshooting the most common progression problems
The decoration objective will not complete
Check that all five required targets were inspected, not merely nearby props. The green polar bear and pedestal are easy to overlook because they sit on coucheside corners, while the plant can be partly hidden beside or behind the left staircase. The potion bottles are behind the central lava pit at the cash-register counter, and the lantern is by the stew counter and skeletons.
I cannot find the diary
Confirm the sequence before searching again: confront Oogie after the decoration sweep, leave to speak with Merlin, equip Zero through the exact Wardrobe path, then return and talk to Oogie. The diary appears after Zero’s search and drop, not at the beginning of the lair visit.
The lava pit is not giving the required items
Use the Royal Fishing Rod and target ripple spots in the central lava pit. The requested catches are a Lava Core and a Skeleton Fish; ordinary fishing locations are not the objective for this stage.
I crafted one spray but cannot finish
Rescue Mission requires two Extra Strength Bug Sprays. Craft the second from the quest recipe, give one to Merlin and one to Scrooge McDuck, and then return to Oogie Boogie.
The quest is no longer available
Rescue Mission is recorded as running from October 14 through November 4, 2026. Because it is limited-time content, availability can change after that window. Check the current event information in the game if the quest letter or mirror access is missing.
Fastest reliable route
For a clean run, prepare the prerequisites first, open the mailbox letter, and enter through the green mirror. Sweep the first floor from the left couch and stairs, around the staircase and stew counter, across to the register behind the lava pit, and finish at the right-side crafting station. Talk to Oogie, visit Merlin, equip Zero, and return for the diary. Fish the two lava-pit items, collect Goofy’s Dandelion and 10 Dream Shards, craft two sprays, make the two deliveries, and use the final Oogie conversation as the completion check.
The Bottom Line
The key is recognizing that the five odd decorations are fixed green investigation targets, not furniture to place. After counting them, follow the dependency chain—Oogie, Merlin, Zero, diary, lava-pit fishing, Goofy, Dream Shards, two sprays, two deliveries, and Oogie’s final conversation—to complete Rescue Mission.
