While your YouTube live stream is active, open Live Chat, find the Super Chat or other message, select More → Pin. Only the creator can pin a message, and only one can be pinned at a time. A viewer does not have to pay for a Super Chat to have the creator pin an ordinary chat message.
Pin a message from computer
- Open your active stream’s watch page and locate its live chat window.
- Find the Super Chat or other message you want to highlight. You can pin your own message or a viewer’s.
- Open More beside the message and select Pin. See YouTube’s computer instructions for Live Chat.
The pinned message appears below Super Chat in YouTube’s documented chat layout. Pinning is a creator action, not a Super Chat purchase benefit: a creator can pin a regular message without the viewer paying.
Pin a message in the YouTube mobile app
- Open the active stream and its live chat in the YouTube app.
- Find the message you want to highlight.
- Open More beside it and tap Pin. The mobile flow is documented in YouTube’s Live Chat help.
YouTube documents the same core pin action on computer and mobile. Only the creator can pin; moderators and viewers cannot use the pin control.
Replace or remove the pinned message
- Replace it: pin a different message. Only one message can be pinned at a time, so the new pin replaces the existing one.
- Remove it: open More on the pinned message and choose Unpin.
What to expect on an always-on stream
YouTube’s instructions describe pinning in live chat during a live stream or Premiere; they do not describe a special always-on pin mode. They also do not say whether a pinned message persists through stream restarts, handoffs, or other broadcast transitions. If the stream transitions, check the live chat again and pin the message if needed rather than assuming the pin carried over.

Live chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. When the stream ends, live chat is unavailable. An archive may include live chat replay, which YouTube says is on by default; you can disable replay for a selected archive in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s replay guidance does not specify whether a pinned state appears in replay, so do not rely on the pin being preserved there.
