The exact buttons are model- and mode-specific, so Pixel Fold, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 instructions should not be mixed.
Use the workflow that matches the shot: cover-screen rear-camera mode for higher-quality portraits, an L-shaped tabletop position for group photos or long exposures, and dual preview when both photographer and subject need to see framing.

What the cover and inner screens do during a photo
On a conventional phone, the display and camera usually face the same direction for a selfie. A foldable separates those jobs. Its rear camera system can face the subject while the outside cover display shows the live composition. You can therefore use rear-facing cameras for a self-portrait without guessing where you are in the frame.

At a supported angle, the phone can rest on a table or other stable surface. One half may show the camera preview and the other controls, depending on the device and app. This is commonly called Flex mode, tabletop mode or a similar name. It is not a universal Android gesture: Samsung, Google and different generations expose different controls.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Some camera apps also offer dual preview. The same scene appears on the inner and cover displays, allowing the person taking the picture and the people being photographed to check the framing. Manuals qualify this feature by shooting mode, so its absence in a particular mode is normal rather than a fault.
Choose the right foldable-camera workflow
| Workflow | Best for | What appears on screen | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cover-screen rear-camera selfie | Selfies and portraits using the rear cameras | The outer display provides live framing | Activation differs by model; some shooting modes do not support it |
| Tabletop or Flex mode | Group photos, timer shots, hands-free video and steady night shots | Preview and controls can occupy separate halves; a Pixel Fold can show an outer-screen preview | Requires a stable surface and a fold angle supported by that phone and app |
| Dual preview | Let the subject and photographer see the composition | The inner and cover displays show the scene together | Available only in selected modes on Samsung models |
| Folded cover-screen camera | Quick photos or video without opening the main display | A camera interface fills the outer display | Lens, resolution and mode choices depend on the device |
Google Pixel Fold instructions
Google’s Pixel Fold help pages describe several distinct arrangements. These steps apply to the Pixel Fold model covered by Google’s documentation; newer Pixel generations can rename or add features.
Take a rear-camera selfie with the outer display
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap Switch screen. The camera display moves to the outer screen and the rear camera becomes the shooting camera.
- If the phone is folded, unfold it enough that the outside display and rear cameras face you. If it is already open, turn the phone so the rear cameras point toward you.
- Use the cover display to position your eyes and shoulders, then press the shutter.
The important detail is the direction of the hardware: the rear lenses point at you while the outside display faces you as a monitor. These instructions are not a generic Android procedure; another foldable may use a different control or start from the cover screen.

For a group, Google’s Pixel Fold help says to “Fold your phone into an L shape (or tabletop mode).” Place the phone on a firm surface with the rear cameras facing the group and the outside screen visible. The hinge supplies the support, but the surface must not wobble.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Open Camera and fold the phone into the L-shaped tabletop position.
- Set the phone down so the rear cameras face the people in the picture. Check the outside-screen preview for headroom and the edges of the frame.
- Tap the three-second or 10-second timer.
- Press the shutter, move into position and hold still until the countdown ends.
- After selecting a timer, a raised hand can trigger the shutter using Google’s Palm Timer gesture. Keep the hand clearly visible to the camera until the countdown starts.
The timer and gesture remove the need to touch the phone at the moment of capture. If the preview is upside down or the controls do not appear, close and reopen Camera while the phone is at the desired hinge angle; the app’s tabletop behavior is orientation-sensitive.
Use Pixel Fold tabletop camera mode with the inner camera
Google also documents a separate tabletop camera arrangement. In that setup, place the phone with the outer screen down and use the Flip Camera button. The upper portion then shows the camera view while the lower portion presents controls. Google’s description refers to using the inner camera in this orientation, so do not confuse it with the rear-camera group-photo setup above, where the rear lenses face the group and the outside screen supplies the preview.
- Open Camera and position the folded phone with the outer display resting downward on a stable surface.
- Tap Flip Camera if you need the inner camera.
- Confirm that the upper half shows the intended scene and use the lower controls to choose the mode, timer and shutter.
- Keep the hinge and surface undisturbed while the phone captures.
Capture astrophotography without touching the phone
Astrophotography is especially sensitive to vibration. Google’s Pixel Fold instructions call for a dark location and a steady support.
- Choose a dark location away from direct lights.
- Open Camera, then unfold the phone into an L shape and place it on a steady surface.
- Wait for the “Astrophotography on” indication. If it does not appear, select Night Sight and move the slider to Astro.
- Press the shutter once, then keep the phone completely still until capture finishes. Do not pick it up when the screen appears inactive; the exposure can still be running.
A separate stand is optional. Google’s guidance allows either the foldable’s own tabletop shape or a stable stand, provided the phone cannot move during the exposure.

Newer Pixel-only features
Feature names are generation-dependent. Google’s help page lists Made You Look for Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, while Instant View is listed for Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Do not assume either feature exists on the original Pixel Fold or on a model running different software.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: cover preview, rear-camera portraits and Flex layout
The Galaxy Z Fold6 user guide uses a different starting point from Pixel Fold instructions. Samsung’s EU manual says the rear-camera self-portrait workflow begins on the cover screen.
Take a rear-camera self-portrait
- Open Camera while looking at the cover screen.
- Tap SELFIE.
- Unfold the device and face the rear camera. The cover screen shows the preview so you can compose the portrait.
- Press the shutter when your framing is ready.
Samsung notes that this rear-camera self-portrait option is available only in some shooting modes. If SELFIE does not expose the expected preview, switch to a supported mode rather than assuming the camera or display is malfunctioning.
Show the scene on both displays
On the preview screen, tap the dual-preview control to show the scene on the inner and cover displays. Take the photo or start recording after confirming the composition. The Fold6 manual also limits dual preview to selected shooting modes, and the control may disappear when a mode or lens combination is unsupported.

Use the cover screen as a camera by itself
Samsung documents taking photos or recording videos with the Fold6 folded or unfolded while using the cover screen. In Flex mode, folding the phone changes the camera layout automatically, and captured results can be reviewed on the preview screen. The available lenses and controls remain mode-dependent; a cover-screen workflow does not guarantee a particular resolution or camera.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: folded cover-screen capture
The Z Flip6 is designed for quick shooting while closed. Its EU user guide gives two ways to launch Camera from the cover screen.
- On the cover screen, swipe outside the large circle to open Camera, or double-press the Side button.
- Swipe to choose a shooting mode.
- Use a pinch gesture to zoom, if that mode supports zoom.
- Tap the screen to capture. The volume button and palm gesture are alternative capture controls described by Samsung.
Samsung also provides a preview-screen control for showing the scene on both displays. Because the manual qualifies this by shooting mode, treat the control as optional rather than a permanent setting.
How Samsung Flex mode works
Samsung describes Flex mode as a layout that adapts when the phone is partially folded. Samsung Developer’s general guidance says, “Partially folding the phone allows comfortable use while the device is on a flat surface, such as a table.” The camera can place the live view on one portion and controls on the other, but the exact arrangement varies by model and app.

Enable the Flex mode panel
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced features > Flex mode panel.
- Enable the panel.
- Choose which supported apps should show it.
- Open Camera, partially fold the phone and check whether the Flex controls appear.
Samsung’s current US support page lists Camera among the apps usable while the phone is folded, while warning that app support and terminology differ by model. The same page explicitly excludes the original Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z TriFold from Flex mode. Therefore, “Samsung foldable” is not enough information to promise a Flex layout.
Positioning, timers and stability
Find a safe support point
Use a level, non-slippery surface that can carry the phone’s weight. Keep the hinge away from an edge and make sure a case is not forcing the device to spring open. For a phone tripod stand or adjustable phone stand, verify that the clamp supports the device’s folded or open thickness and can hold the angle you need. A stand is useful when the table is unavailable, but it is not mandatory if the hinge rests securely.
Compose before starting the countdown
Check the outer-screen preview for feet, heads and bright lights near the frame edge. A three-second timer is enough for a quick reposition; a 10-second timer gives a group more time to move behind the phone. Once the countdown starts, avoid touching the hinge, volume keys or surface.

Use gestures only when supported
Pixel Fold’s Palm Timer requires a timer to be selected first. Samsung manuals list palm gestures and the volume button as capture alternatives on the Flip6. Gesture availability is mode-specific, so test the chosen mode before relying on it for an important group photograph.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The outer display shows no preview
- Confirm that the phone is in the model’s documented workflow: Pixel Fold uses Switch screen; Fold6 rear-camera portraits begin with Camera on the cover screen and SELFIE; Flip6 launches Camera from the closed cover screen.
- Change to a basic photo mode. Samsung limits rear-camera self-portraits and dual preview to certain modes.
- Unfold or refold slowly to the intended angle, then reopen Camera so it can detect the orientation.
The preview is on the wrong half or upside down
- Rotate the phone so the cameras face the subject and close/reopen Camera at the final hinge angle.
- On Pixel Fold, distinguish the rear-camera L-shaped group setup from the outer-screen-down tabletop arrangement that uses Flip Camera.
- On Samsung, let Flex mode rearrange the layout rather than manually rotating the device after the app has opened.
The shutter fires before everyone is ready
- Use the longer timer and start the countdown only after the phone is stable.
- On Pixel Fold, use Palm Timer after choosing the timer so the hand gesture starts capture when the group is positioned.
- On Flip6, use the volume button or palm gesture only if the selected mode still shows that option.
Night or astrophotography images are blurred
- Move the phone to a steadier surface or stand and ensure the hinge is not rocking.
- Do not touch the phone after pressing the shutter. Pixel Fold astrophotography continues through a countdown even when the screen appears quiet.
- For Pixel Fold, confirm that “Astrophotography on” appears or select Night Sight and move the slider to Astro.
What is and is not interchangeable between models
The physical idea—rear camera toward the subject, cover display toward the photographer, hinge supporting the phone—is shared across foldables. The controls are not. Pixel Fold names Switch screen, uses a documented Palm Timer and separates two tabletop arrangements. Fold6 starts rear-camera portraits from SELFIE on the cover display and places dual preview behind a preview-screen control. Flip6 emphasizes launching Camera while closed and offers swipe, pinch, palm and volume controls.
Older Samsung documentation also describes Flex mode changing the camera into preview and control regions and enabling hands-free rear-camera selfies. A Korean support article dated September 22, 2022 covers older Galaxy Z Fold2, Fold3 and Fold4 devices; its instructions should not be silently applied to a Fold6 or another newer model.
Quick Recap
A repeatable checklist for any foldable photo
- Identify the exact phone model and software version before following button-by-button instructions.
- Choose whether you need a rear-camera selfie, a closed-cover quick shot, dual preview or a tabletop/Flex setup.
- Place the phone on a stable surface or compatible stand and set the hinge angle before composing.
- Verify which display is acting as the preview and which side faces the cameras.
- Select a timer or supported remote gesture for hands-free capture.
- Take a test frame, checking crop, focus and glare on the cover display.
- Start the final countdown and keep the device still until the image or video is complete.
