Check the platform’s checkout options for your country first; if direct card payment is unavailable, an official wallet code or gift card that matches your account’s store region may work. Nintendo documents local gift-card payment routes in Brazil and Mexico, while Steam and PlayStation warn that mismatches between payment and store regions can cause problems.
Start with your country, platform, and store region
Payment options are not uniform across Latin America. Identify the country where you are paying, the platform you are buying from, and the country set for your account or store. Then check that platform’s official payment page or the options shown at checkout for that country.

Local payment services also vary by country. Mercado Pago’s developer documentation, for example, lists payment rails such as PIX, boleto, and OXXO in country-specific contexts, but that does not mean Mercado Pago is accepted by any particular game storefront. Check the storefront itself rather than assuming a local payment service will work.

Nintendo: local eShop gift-card routes in Brazil and Mexico
Nintendo says customers in Brazil and Mexico can buy digital Nintendo eShop gift cards to add account funds without using a credit card. Its documented local payment methods are PIX or boleto bancário in Brazil, and OXXO in Mexico. After payment is processed, Nintendo emails the download code. The purchase is final, according to Nintendo’s support guidance.
Brazil: PIX or boleto bancário
With PIX, scan the checkout QR code using a bank app or e-wallet, verify the recipient and amount, and confirm the payment. For boleto bancário, follow the payment instructions presented at checkout and allow time for processing before expecting the code.
Mexico: OXXO
Generate the OXXO voucher and pay at an authorized location within five days. Nintendo emails the code after the payment has processed.

Before buying any eShop code, make sure it is for the country or region associated with your Nintendo Account. Nintendo’s guidance establishes these payment routes for Brazil and Mexico; it does not establish that a code from another country will redeem on your account.

Nintendo eShop options in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru
Nintendo’s separate guidance for Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru says their eShops use local currency and accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, as well as Nintendo eShop cards. PayPal is not accepted in those country stores.

Automatic renewals, memberships, and preorders require either a stored card or enough eShop balance, according to Nintendo. If you plan to use a gift card or wallet balance for a recurring service, check the specific renewal requirements rather than assuming a one-time purchase method will cover future charges.

Steam: match the payment method to the store country
Steam advises using a payment method that matches the current store country. If you are traveling, Steam recommends trying a method that matches the country currently set for the store. It also says purchases initiated through anonymous proxies are declined, so do not use a VPN or proxy to disguise where you are making a purchase. Disable or remove VPN or proxy software when troubleshooting a failed transaction.

If you cannot use the payment methods available at checkout, Steam says you may consider a Steam Wallet code. Confirm that the code is legitimate and compatible with your account before paying; the support guidance does not guarantee that every code or seller will work in every country.
A failed transaction can also leave a temporary hold on your card. Steam says release may take up to 30 days, depending on the bank and card issuer. Check with your issuer about its policy before repeatedly retrying a purchase.

PlayStation Store: resolve region and card issues
PlayStation says a card registered to an address in a different country from the PlayStation Store region may not link to the account. If a card from the same country as the Store is unavailable, PlayStation suggests using another payment method or a PlayStation Store Wallet Top-Up code.
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

For a card that should be compatible, check with your bank or card provider that online payments are enabled, funds are available, and the transaction is not being blocked. Verify that the card’s registered address and your Store region meet PlayStation’s requirements.

A platform-branded wallet or gift card can be a practical alternative when a direct card payment fails, but compatibility and purchase conditions matter. Before buying, check:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Country and region: The code must be valid for the country or store region attached to your account.
- Seller: Buy from an authorized retailer where possible. Avoid sellers whose authorization or code region is unclear.
- Delivery and processing: Some codes arrive only after a local voucher payment has processed; check the stated delivery conditions.
- Purchase type: A wallet balance may cover a one-time game purchase but may not satisfy automatic subscription renewals.
- Refund terms: Review the seller’s refund policy and the platform’s rules before paying. Nintendo says its digital gift-card sales described for Brazil and Mexico are final.
What to do after a payment fails
- Check the country and store region. Confirm the country selected for the account or store and the country tied to the payment method.
- Read the platform’s country-specific payment options. Use the platform’s official support page or the methods presented at checkout rather than assuming a payment service works across stores.
- Correct the payment issue without disguising your location. Check card compatibility, online-payment settings, available funds, and any bank blocks. Do not use a VPN or anonymous proxy to misrepresent the purchase location.
- Consider a matching platform wallet code. Verify the code’s region and seller before purchase, and check whether it applies to the kind of transaction you want to make.
- Check for a pending hold before trying again. Ask your card issuer whether a failed charge is still pending and how long its release normally takes.
Keep subscriptions separate from game purchases
Paying for a single game and keeping a subscription active are different cases. Wallet codes or balances may not cover automatic renewals unless the platform explicitly says they do. Check the subscription’s renewal requirements and ensure the account has a supported payment method or sufficient balance for future charges.
