The correct setup depends on which 8BitDo Ultimate 2C you own. The Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller has a Nintendo Switch 2 firmware-supported wired method: update its firmware, turn on Pro Controller Wired Communication in Switch 2 settings, and connect it with USB. The separate Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller uses a 2.4G receiver and follows a different pairing sequence. 8BitDo’s reviewed support material does not establish Switch 2 compatibility for every Wireless/2.4G package, so identify the controller and receiver before expecting wireless play.
Identify your Ultimate 2C variant first
“Ultimate 2C” is used for two different products. Their connection methods, accessories and documented Switch 2 support are not interchangeable. Look at the product label, the mode switch and the accessories in your box before following any pairing instructions.

| Variant | Connection method documented in the reviewed material | Switch 2 support status | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller | USB wired connection to the console | 8BitDo lists a firmware release adding Nintendo Switch 2 support for this Bluetooth model | A USB cable and current controller firmware |
| Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller | 2.4G wireless connection through its matching receiver | Not established for every Wireless/2.4G package or receiver | The matching 2.4G receiver, the controller and current model-specific instructions |
A Bluetooth-branded unit should not be put through the Wireless model’s receiver procedure. Conversely, a receiver-based unit cannot be assumed to work by following the Bluetooth controller’s USB instructions. If the package, label or receiver does not clearly identify the model, pause and use the model-specific 8BitDo manual before buying another adapter.

Quick decision: USB or 2.4G receiver?
- You own the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller: use the documented USB setup below. The required Switch 2 setting is Pro Controller Wired Communication.
- You own the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller: use its 2.4G receiver and the three-second Pairing-button procedure. Do not promise yourself Switch 2 wireless compatibility until the exact controller and receiver version are identified.
- You are unsure: check whether the box includes a dedicated 2.4G adapter and whether the controller has the Wireless model’s mode switch. Then consult the matching manual rather than mixing procedures.
For the Bluetooth model, the manufacturer-documented Switch 2 method is wired. The reviewed material does not provide a separate Bluetooth-over-the-air pairing procedure for Switch 2, so connecting by USB is the supported path described here.

Pair the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller by USB
These steps apply to the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, not automatically to the Wireless/2.4G version.
1. Update the controller before connecting it
Check 8BitDo’s support and software path for the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller and install the available firmware if your controller is running an older release. The support index records a firmware release that adds Nintendo Switch 2 support to this Bluetooth model. Firmware is therefore the first compatibility check, not an optional cleanup step.
Use the update instructions for the exact model shown on the support page. Do not select a firmware package merely because its name contains “Ultimate 2C”; the Bluetooth and Wireless products are separate entries. Keep the controller connected as directed by the updater and allow the update to finish before testing it on Switch 2.
2. Enable wired Pro Controller communication on Switch 2
- Turn on the Nintendo Switch 2 and open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Choose Controllers and Sensors.
- Enable Pro Controller Wired Communication.
This setting is required for the manufacturer-documented wired method. If it is off, the console may provide power through the cable without accepting the controller as a wired Pro Controller.

3. Connect the controller with USB
- Connect a USB cable to the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller.
- Connect the other end directly to the Switch 2 console or the appropriate console USB connection.
- Wait briefly for the console to recognize the controller.
The USB cable is the connection path presented in the reviewed Switch 2 FAQ. This is not the same as pairing a Bluetooth device from a wireless-device menu; the console is using the controller’s wired Pro Controller communication.
4. Verify input before starting a game
Test the buttons, triggers and both sticks from the console’s controller controls or inside a game. Confirm that directional input is stable and that pressing HOME does not disconnect the controller. If every control responds, leave the cable connected while you play; the documented setup is wired.
Pair the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller with its 2.4G receiver
The Wireless model’s manual describes a receiver re-pair process. It is separate from the Bluetooth model’s USB setup and requires the controller’s matching 2.4G adapter.
1. Set the controller to 2.4G mode
Move the controller’s mode switch to the 2.4G position. A different switch position will prevent the receiver workflow from starting, even if the adapter is inserted correctly.

2. Power on the controller
Press the HOME button. The controller powers on and is ready for the receiver pairing sequence.
3. Start receiver pairing
Press and hold the controller’s Pairing button for three seconds. Keep holding it until the status LED begins blinking rapidly. Rapid blinking indicates that the controller is searching for the receiver.
4. Connect the 2.4G adapter
Insert the matching 2.4G adapter into the console. Wait for the indicators on the controller and receiver to become solid. Solid indicators are the manual’s sign that the re-pair process has completed.

The reviewed manual explains how to re-pair a Wireless/2.4G controller and receiver; it does not establish that every Ultimate 2C Wireless package or receiver is compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Confirm the exact model and receiver version in 8BitDo’s support material before treating a failed connection as a simple pairing error.
What you need for each setup
| Item or setting | Bluetooth Controller (USB method) | Wireless Controller (2.4G method) |
|---|---|---|
| Controller firmware | Update through 8BitDo support/software; Switch 2 support is tied to the listed firmware release | Use the firmware and instructions for the exact Wireless model; compatibility with Switch 2 is not established for every package |
| Console setting | System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Pro Controller Wired Communication: enabled | No equivalent USB setting is described for the receiver procedure |
| Cable | USB cable connected to the console | Not the pairing path described by the manual |
| Receiver | Not required for the documented USB connection | Required; use the matching 2.4G adapter |
| Pairing action | Connect USB after enabling wired communication | Hold Pairing for three seconds until rapid blinking, connect adapter, wait for solid indicators |
Troubleshoot an Ultimate 2C that will not connect
Work through the checks in order. Each branch addresses a different failure mode, so changing several things at once can hide the cause.
The console does nothing when you connect the cable
- Confirm that the controller is the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, not the Wireless/2.4G model.
- Open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors and verify that Pro Controller Wired Communication is enabled.
- Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends.
- Try the controller again after updating its firmware through the correct 8BitDo support entry.
If the setting is enabled and the controller still is not recognized, repeat the connection with a known-good USB cable and check the model-specific support instructions. The documented method does not establish that a receiver-based Wireless unit will become a Switch 2 controller simply by plugging in a USB cable.
The controller powers on but buttons do not work
Power alone does not prove that the console has accepted the controller. On the Bluetooth model, recheck Pro Controller Wired Communication, reconnect USB and test again. On the Wireless model, check the mode switch, then repeat the rapid-blink pairing sequence with the receiver inserted. Wait for both indicators to turn solid before testing input.

The Wireless model’s LED keeps blinking
- Make sure the mode switch is set to 2.4G.
- Press and hold Pairing for three seconds again, rather than tapping it briefly.
- Reseat the 2.4G adapter in the console.
- Wait for both controller and receiver indicators to become solid.
If the indicators still do not lock, stop and identify the exact package and receiver version. The manual’s re-pair procedure cannot by itself prove Switch 2 compatibility for every Wireless/2.4G revision.
The controller worked on another device but not Switch 2
That result does not confirm Switch 2 support. Update the controller using the exact model entry, then follow the Switch 2-specific procedure: USB plus the wired-communication setting for the Bluetooth model, or the receiver sequence for the Wireless model. A controller’s ability to connect elsewhere is not a substitute for the Switch 2 firmware and compatibility information.
You lost or damaged the receiver
The Wireless model’s procedure depends on its matching 2.4G receiver. Do not assume that any similarly shaped adapter will pair. Identify the exact Wireless controller and consult its model-specific manual before buying a replacement adapter. The Bluetooth model’s documented USB setup does not make a receiver-based controller interchangeable with it.

Before repeating a pairing attempt, record the name printed on the controller, the position labels on its mode switch and the markings on the receiver. Then check 8BitDo’s support listing for that exact product. This avoids installing Bluetooth firmware on a Wireless unit or expecting a receiver revision to have support that has not been documented.
- Bluetooth model: confirm that the firmware is at the release associated with Nintendo Switch 2 support, enable wired communication and connect USB.
- Wireless model: confirm the receiver belongs to that controller, set 2.4G mode and use the three-second Pairing-button sequence.
- Unclear identity: use the model-specific manual first; do not purchase an adapter based only on the “Ultimate 2C” name.
Can you use USB instead of the 2.4G dongle?
For the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, yes: the Switch 2 FAQ documents USB as the wired connection method, and no 2.4G receiver is required for that setup. You still must enable Pro Controller Wired Communication and use firmware that includes Switch 2 support.
For the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller, the reviewed material documents a receiver-based connection. It does not say that plugging in USB converts that model into the Bluetooth controller’s supported Switch 2 setup. Treat the receiver as required unless the exact Wireless model’s current 8BitDo documentation explicitly says otherwise.
A repeatable setup checklist
- Read the label and separate Bluetooth from Wireless/2.4G.
- Locate the correct 8BitDo support entry and update firmware if it is old.
- For Bluetooth: enable System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Pro Controller Wired Communication, then connect USB.
- For Wireless: set 2.4G mode, press HOME, hold Pairing for three seconds until rapid blinking, insert the matching adapter and wait for solid indicators.
- Test HOME, face buttons, triggers and sticks.
- If connection fails, repeat only the branch for the identified model and consult its manual before replacing a cable or receiver.
Bottom line
The safest answer is model-specific. The Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller has a documented Nintendo Switch 2 path through updated firmware and USB with Pro Controller Wired Communication enabled. The Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller uses its 2.4G receiver and a separate three-second re-pair sequence, but Switch 2 support is not established for every Wireless package. Identify the hardware first, then use only its matching procedure.
