To pair Shokz OpenRun, turn the headphones off, then hold Volume+ for about 5–7 seconds. Keep holding after the headphones power on until the LED flashes red and blue and Audrey says “pairing.” On your phone, open Bluetooth settings and select OpenRun by Shokz. Audrey says “connected” when the connection succeeds.
Those steps work with both iPhone and Android phones. OpenRun uses Bluetooth 5.1, and Shokz says it can pair with Bluetooth devices using Bluetooth 3.1 or newer.

What you need before pairing
Pairing is easiest when the headphones and phone are close together and no other phone is trying to connect. OpenRun must be powered off before you start pairing mode; pressing the buttons while it is already connected can produce a different result.
- Charge OpenRun for a few minutes if the battery may be empty.
- Keep the headphones within a short distance of the phone while the LED is flashing.
- Know the Bluetooth menu on the phone you want to use.
- If OpenRun has been used with another phone, be ready to turn Bluetooth off on that phone or remove the old pairing.
The device name you should select is OpenRun by Shokz. Do not select a similarly named entry from another headset.

The standard OpenRun pairing procedure
- Power OpenRun off. If it is currently connected, turn it off before continuing.
- Press and hold Volume+. Continue holding the button for approximately 5–7 seconds. The headphones power on first, so do not release the button at the first startup announcement.
- Wait for pairing mode. Audrey says “pairing,” and the status LED flashes red and blue. That light pattern confirms that the headphones are discoverable.
- Open Bluetooth on your phone. Leave OpenRun in pairing mode while you open the settings screen.
- Select OpenRun by Shokz. Tap that name under available, new, or other devices, depending on the phone’s interface.
- Confirm the connection. Audrey says “connected” after the phone completes pairing. The OpenRun entry normally moves to the phone’s paired or connected-device list.
If the phone shows a pairing request, accept it. OpenRun’s normal procedure does not require you to type a separate passcode. If the name does not appear, leave the Bluetooth screen open and work through the troubleshooting section below rather than repeatedly tapping unrelated entries.
Pair OpenRun with an iPhone
Step-by-step on iOS
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Hold Volume+ for 5–7 seconds, continuing until the LED flashes red and blue and Audrey says “pairing.”
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Make sure the Bluetooth switch is on.
- Wait for OpenRun by Shokz to appear under the list of available devices.
- Tap OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for Audrey to say “connected.”
Keep the iPhone close to the headphones while the red-and-blue light is flashing. If you leave pairing mode before tapping the device name, power OpenRun off and repeat the Volume+ procedure from the beginning.
What a successful iPhone connection looks like
After the connection, the OpenRun entry appears in the iPhone’s Bluetooth device list as connected or paired. Audio routed to Bluetooth accessories should then play through OpenRun. If the phone still shows the headphones as available rather than connected, tap the entry once more and wait for the spoken confirmation.
Pair OpenRun with an Android phone
Step-by-step on Android
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Hold Volume+ for approximately 5–7 seconds.
- Release the button only after Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Open Bluetooth. Some Android phones place this at Connections > Bluetooth or inside a similarly named network-and-device section.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- Find OpenRun by Shokz under available, new, or paired devices.
- Tap the name and wait for Audrey to say “connected.”
Android menu names vary by manufacturer and software version, but the headset name remains OpenRun by Shokz. If your phone has a separate “scan” or “pair new device” command, start that scan while OpenRun is announcing pairing.

When Android lists OpenRun but will not finish
Tap the device name once, wait for the pairing request to complete, and avoid starting a second scan at the same time. If the request fails, use the phone’s option to forget or unpair the existing OpenRun entry, restart Bluetooth, and run the full pairing procedure again.
If OpenRun does not appear in Bluetooth
The most common cause is that the headphones were not actually in pairing mode. A powered-on headset that is not flashing red and blue may be trying to reconnect to a previous phone instead of advertising itself to a new one.
Confirm the correct pairing trigger
- Turn OpenRun completely off.
- Press and hold Volume+.
- Continue holding through the startup announcement. Shokz’s commands guidance says to hold the button for an additional 2–3 seconds after the initial “Welcome to Shokz” prompt.
- Release only when Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- Return to the phone’s Bluetooth screen and start a fresh device scan.
Pressing Volume+ briefly, or releasing it as soon as the headphones power on, does not put OpenRun into discoverable pairing mode.

If several phones or tablets have been used with the headset, clear the old OpenRun entry from each nearby device that might be attempting an automatic connection. This prevents a previously authorized device from taking priority during setup.
Restart both sides
- Turn Bluetooth off on the phone.
- Power OpenRun off.
- Restart the phone.
- Charge OpenRun for a few minutes if its battery level is uncertain.
- Turn Bluetooth back on.
- Enter OpenRun pairing mode and scan again.
This sequence removes a temporary Bluetooth state without deleting every saved connection. If the headset still cannot be discovered, perform the full reset described later.
If OpenRun keeps reconnecting to another phone
OpenRun remembers previously paired devices. When one of those devices has Bluetooth enabled and is nearby, it may reconnect before the phone you are trying to set up. Turn Bluetooth off on the old phone for the duration of pairing, or use that phone’s Bluetooth settings to forget OpenRun. Then repeat the standard procedure on the intended phone.

Use OpenRun with two phones through multipoint
OpenRun supports multipoint pairing with two devices. Multipoint lets the headset maintain connections to two phones, but it does not mix audio from both phones at the same time. Only one device supplies audio at any given moment. Shokz also notes that multipoint may not work with every device or Bluetooth transmitter.
Enable multipoint and pair the first phone
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Press and hold Volume+ until Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- While OpenRun remains in pairing mode, press and hold the multifunction button and Volume+ together for about 3 seconds.
- Wait for Audrey to say “multipoint enabled.”
- On the first phone, open Bluetooth settings and select OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for the connected announcement.
Pair the second phone
- Power OpenRun off after the first phone has paired.
- Enter pairing mode again by holding Volume+ until the red-and-blue flash and “pairing” prompt appear.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the second phone.
- Select OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for the connected announcement.
- Power OpenRun off and back on once both phones have been paired.
With multipoint active, OpenRun can switch between the two connected devices according to which one is using the connection. It cannot play two separate audio streams simultaneously. If either phone behaves unpredictably, disable Bluetooth on the other phone temporarily and test each connection separately; some devices and transmitters are not compatible with multipoint.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Reset OpenRun completely
A reset erases the headphones’ connected-device information. Use it when ordinary restarts, forgetting the phone entry, and charging have not solved discovery or disconnection problems.
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Enter pairing mode by holding Volume+ until Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- Press and hold the multifunction button, Volume+, and Volume− together.
- Keep holding all three buttons for approximately 3–5 seconds, until you hear beeps or feel vibrations.
- Turn the headphones off.
- Pair them again with the desired phone using the standard procedure.
Because the reset removes stored connections, every phone that should use OpenRun must be paired again. A reset is different from simply forgetting OpenRun on one phone: the headset itself loses its saved device information.

Fix common OpenRun pairing symptoms
| Symptom | What to check | Corrective action |
|---|---|---|
| No “pairing” voice prompt | Volume+ was released too soon, or the headphones were not off first. | Power off OpenRun and continue holding Volume+ through the “Welcome to Shokz” prompt until “pairing” and the red/blue flash appear. |
| OpenRun is absent from the phone’s list | The headset is not discoverable, or another phone has reconnected to it. | Clear old pairings, disable Bluetooth on nearby previously used phones, restart both devices, and scan again while the LED flashes red and blue. |
| OpenRun disconnects repeatedly | A stale Bluetooth state, low charge, or corrupted saved pairing may be involved. | Restart the phone and headset, charge OpenRun briefly, reset it if necessary, and pair again. |
| Headset reconnects elsewhere | A previously paired phone is still within range with Bluetooth enabled. | Turn Bluetooth off on that phone or forget OpenRun there before pairing the target phone. |
| Sound comes from only one side | The phone’s left/right accessibility balance may be shifted. | Check the phone’s left/right audio-balance control. If balance is normal, reset OpenRun and pair it again. |
| Two-phone setup does not work | Multipoint may not support the specific phone, transmitter, or device combination. | Confirm that “multipoint enabled” was announced, pair each phone in the documented order, and test with one phone at a time if switching remains unreliable. |
How OpenRun compatibility works
Shokz states that OpenRun is compatible with both iPhone and Android. The headphones use Bluetooth 5.1, while Shokz’s pairing FAQ says OpenRun will pair with most Bluetooth devices using Bluetooth 3.1 or newer, including phones, tablets, computers, and watches.
Compatibility does not guarantee that every device supports every OpenRun feature. Standard one-phone pairing is the basic function. Multipoint has the additional limitation that some devices or transmitters may not support it, and even when it works, audio comes from only one connected device at a time.
Quick reference
| Task | Button action on OpenRun | Phone action | Expected confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pair one phone | From off, hold Volume+ for 5–7 seconds. | Open Bluetooth and select OpenRun by Shokz. | Red/blue flash, then “pairing”; after selection, “connected.” |
| Enable multipoint | Enter pairing mode, then hold the multifunction button and Volume+ for about 3 seconds. | Pair the first phone, power off, then pair the second phone. | “Multipoint enabled,” followed by a connection announcement for each phone. |
| Erase saved devices | In pairing mode, hold multifunction, Volume+, and Volume− for 3–5 seconds. | Pair the phone again after the reset. | Beeps or vibrations; previous device connections are erased. |
When to repeat the process
Repeat the complete procedure rather than trying isolated button presses whenever the LED does not flash red and blue, Audrey never says “pairing,” the phone shows an old connection but will not connect, or OpenRun immediately returns to another phone. The reliable sequence is: power off, hold Volume+ until the voice prompt and light pattern, select the exact OpenRun name, and wait for “connected.” If that still fails after clearing old pairings and restarting both devices, use the reset procedure and start over.
