To pair most button-controlled Shokz headphones, start with the headset powered off, then hold volume+ for 5–7 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue and the voice prompt says “pairing.” Select the Shokz name in your phone or computer’s Bluetooth menu. If pairing fails, clear old Shokz entries, restart Bluetooth and the host device, then use the three-button reset. The exact controls differ between button-based models and case-based earbuds, so identify the model before following a reset sequence.
This guide covers OpenRun and similar button-controlled families, plus the Windows, Android, iOS, Mac, multipoint, audio-routing and charging problems that commonly follow a failed or incomplete connection.

Identify your Shokz model before changing settings
Shokz has several control layouts. OpenRun, OpenMove, Aeropex, Air, Titanium and related models use physical buttons on the headset. Many newer earbud-style products use a charging case and touch or case controls instead. The OpenRun reset sequence in this guide is intended for the button-controlled families named by Shokz; do not apply it blindly to a case-based model.

| Model family or design | Control style relevant to pairing | What to verify first |
|---|---|---|
| OpenRun and similar button-controlled models | Volume+, volume− and a multifunction button on the headset | Begin with the headset powered off; pairing is entered by holding volume+ for 5–7 seconds. |
| OpenMove, Aeropex, Air and Titanium | Button-based controls; the three-button reset is documented for these and related families | Confirm the exact model’s manual if its button layout or prompts differ. |
| Case-based earbuds | Controls and pairing behavior depend on the earbuds and charging case | Use the model-specific case procedure rather than the OpenRun button sequence. |
| Charging connection | Many button-controlled models use a magnetic charging cable | Use a cable and adapter compatible with the exact model; the connector is not universal across every Shokz product. |
Pairing mode is not the same as ordinary power-on. A short press may simply turn the headset on and try to reconnect to a previous device. You need the longer volume+ hold that produces both the red-and-blue LED and the “pairing” prompt.

Prepare the headset and host
Keep the headset within a short distance of the phone or computer during the first pairing attempt. Turn Bluetooth off on nearby phones, tablets and computers that have used the headset, or move those devices away temporarily. This prevents an old host from taking an automatic connection while you are looking for the Shokz name on a new host.
Check the battery before troubleshooting. A headset that powers off during discovery can look like a Bluetooth failure. If the battery indicator is low or the headset has been stored for a long time, connect a compatible charger for a few minutes and then retry.
Pair OpenRun and similar button-controlled headphones
- Power the headphones off. Starting from an already powered-on headset is a common reason the pairing prompt never appears.
- Enter pairing mode. Press and hold volume+ for 5–7 seconds. Continue holding after the headset powers on until the LED flashes red and blue and the voice prompt says “pairing.” Shokz’s OpenRun troubleshooting guide, dated November 2, 2021, specifically says to begin with the headphones powered off and hold volume+ for 5–7 seconds.
- Open the host’s Bluetooth menu. On a phone or tablet, open the Bluetooth section of Settings. On a Mac, open System Settings and Bluetooth. On Windows, open Settings, then Bluetooth & devices.
- Select the Shokz device name. Wait for the model name to appear, then tap or click it. Keep the headset close to the host while the first connection is negotiated.
- Confirm the connection. The host should show the headset as connected, and the headset should stop its pairing indication. Play a short audio clip before changing additional settings.
If the headset was previously used with another phone, tablet or computer, remove or forget its Shokz entry on those devices before trying again. A nearby device with Bluetooth enabled can capture the headset’s automatic reconnection, making the new host appear unable to find it.

If the Shokz name does not appear
Verify that the headset began powered off and that volume+ was held long enough to produce the red-and-blue LED and spoken pairing prompt. If the LED only shows the normal power-on behavior, turn the headset off and repeat the full 5–7-second hold. Refresh the host’s Bluetooth screen after toggling Bluetooth off and on. Also check that another nearby device has not already connected; forgetting the old entry on that device is often necessary.
When a Shokz headset will not connect
Work through the following order instead of repeating the same pairing attempt. Each step removes a different cause of a reconnection loop.
- Clear every old pairing. In the Bluetooth settings of each previously used phone, tablet, Mac or PC, choose the Shokz entry and select Forget, Remove device or Unpair. If several Shokz entries exist, remove the stale ones as well.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on. Disable Bluetooth on the device, wait a few seconds, then enable it again. This reloads the host’s Bluetooth discovery state without changing other settings.
- Restart the host device. Restart the phone, tablet, Mac or PC, especially if the Shokz name appears but tapping it produces no connection.
- Reset the headphones. Use the three-button procedure in the next section for OpenRun and related button-controlled families.
- Charge briefly. Connect the headset for a few minutes before retrying. A very low battery can interrupt pairing or make the headset shut down during discovery.
- Try one host only. Switch Bluetooth off on nearby devices and attempt a clean pairing with one phone or computer. Add other devices only after this single-device connection works.
- Check the computer’s Bluetooth software. On Windows, install an available update for the Bluetooth driver. Shokz identifies outdated drivers as a cause of pairing difficulty.
- Check the Shokz App, if you use it. On iOS, allow Bluetooth permission. On Android, allow Bluetooth or Nearby Devices permission as requested by the current operating-system version. If the app remains stuck searching, update or reinstall it, then pair from the operating system’s Bluetooth menu.
Do not assume that a device listed under “saved” or “paired” is actively connected. Open the device details and look for an explicit Connected status. If the headset is listed but will not connect, forgetting it and pairing again is more effective than repeatedly tapping the old entry.
Check permissions before blaming the headset
The Shokz App may need Bluetooth permission on iOS and Bluetooth or Nearby Devices permission on Android. Denying that permission can leave the app searching indefinitely even though the operating system can still pair the headphones. Grant the requested permission, close and reopen the app, and install its current version. If the app remains stuck, pair through the phone’s normal Bluetooth settings first; app-based controls can be addressed after a basic connection works.

Reset OpenRun and related button-controlled models
For OpenRun, OpenMove, Aeropex, Air, Titanium and related button-controlled families, Shokz documents a three-button reset. The sequence clears the headset’s connection state; it does not repair a defective speaker, cable or host Bluetooth radio.
- Turn the headphones off.
- Enter pairing mode. Hold volume+ for 5–7 seconds until the red-and-blue LED appears and the voice prompt announces pairing.
- Press all three buttons together. Hold the multifunction button, volume+ and volume− simultaneously for 3–5 seconds. Beeps or vibrations indicate that the operation has been accepted. This is the sequence in Shokz’s OpenRun Commands page dated November 24, 2023.
- Power the headphones off again.
- Restart the phone or computer. This gives the host a clean Bluetooth state after the headset reset.
- Pair from scratch. Forget any old Shokz entry still shown on the host, then repeat the normal pairing procedure.
If there is no LED, beep or vibration at step three, stop and verify the model. A case-based earbud model may require a different reset. Also charge the headset briefly: a critically low battery can prevent the reset confirmation from being audible or visible.
Resetting is most useful after stale pairings, failed discovery or a connection that will not complete. It will not correct a damaged charging contact, failed speaker, defective microphone or incompatible Bluetooth transmitter. Those problems require a separate hardware or host check.
Stop random disconnects and use multipoint correctly
Many Shokz models support a two-device or multipoint connection, but the behavior depends on the headset model, the connected devices and the transmitting Bluetooth hardware. A headset can be paired with two devices yet still give priority to the device that starts audio, a call or another Bluetooth request.

- Forget the headset on every host except the one you are testing.
- Turn Bluetooth off on other nearby devices, including a second phone or a work computer.
- Reset and pair the headset with the remaining host.
- Play audio and make a test call. If the connection stays stable, the headset and first host are functioning together.
Add the second device only after the first is stable
Follow the multipoint procedure for the exact model, then pair the second host. If disconnects return, remove the second host and test again. This identifies whether the second transmitter, its driver or an active call is causing the interruption.
Shokz documents a known situation in which an Apple device can drop when another paired device is on a call. That behavior does not necessarily indicate a failed headset; it can be an interaction between the two hosts and their Bluetooth implementations. Test with one device first, and treat two-device operation as a model- and host-dependent feature rather than a guarantee that both devices can stream simultaneously.
For reliable work calls, identify which device should handle calls and which should handle media. If a second device repeatedly interrupts the first, disable Bluetooth on it during the call or remove its pairing until the call ends. Re-pairing both devices repeatedly without isolating the second host does not reveal which transmitter is responsible.

Windows pairing problems and Bluetooth adapters
On Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, remove the old Shokz entry, restart the computer and pair again. Check Windows Update or the computer manufacturer’s support page for a newer Bluetooth driver. Shokz specifically lists outdated drivers as a source of pairing difficulty.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the built-in Bluetooth radio continues to fail with multiple headsets, a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter is a reasonable category to investigate. Compatibility is not universal: the adapter’s Bluetooth version, Windows driver and support for audio profiles all matter. Install its driver as directed, disable or disconnect the unreliable internal radio if necessary, then remove and re-pair the Shokz headset. An adapter should be considered only after the official driver check and a clean pairing attempt.
A USB adapter is not a guaranteed fix for every disconnect. Test the computer’s built-in radio with another Bluetooth headset first, and confirm that the adapter supports Windows audio profiles. If only the Shokz headset fails while other headsets work, repeat the model reset and clear the Shokz entry before replacing computer hardware.
Connected but no sound
A Bluetooth status of Connected does not prove that media audio is routed to the headset. Check the audio path in this order.
- Raise both volume controls. Increase the phone or computer’s output volume and the headset’s volume with volume+.
- Choose Shokz as the output. In the host’s sound controls, select the connected Shokz device instead of built-in speakers, a monitor or another Bluetooth output.
- On Android, enable the right profiles. Open the Shokz Bluetooth entry and make sure both Phone Calls and Media Audio are enabled when those switches are available.
- Check accessibility balance. A left-right balance slider panned fully to one side can make a stereo source appear silent in the other ear. Return the balance to the center.
- Test a second source. Try a local system sound or another application to rule out an app-specific mute or output selection.
- Reset when prompts work but media does not. If you hear the headset’s startup or pairing prompts but media remains silent, repeat the three-button reset and pair again.
If prompt sounds are absent even after the volume is raised, Shokz treats that as a possible speaker hardware defect rather than a normal Bluetooth-routing problem. Move to warranty or support review after checking charge and the correct model procedure.

Phone-call audio and media audio can use separate profile switches, especially on Android and Windows. A headset may therefore connect for calls while music remains silent, or play music while a calling application uses the computer’s microphone and speakers. Select Shokz in the calling application as well as in the system-wide output menu, and confirm that both Phone Calls and Media Audio are enabled on Android when those controls are present.
What to do when Shokz headphones will not charge
- Inspect the connection. Align the magnetic connector with the headset’s charging contacts. Do not force it into place or bend the contacts.
- Try another compatible magnetic cable. A damaged cable is a common explanation for a headset that otherwise powers on but shows no charging indication.
- Try a different charging adapter or USB power source. This separates a cable or adapter problem from a headset problem.
- Leave the headset connected briefly. A deeply discharged battery may need several minutes before an LED or power response appears.
- Stop if the headset still does not charge. Repeatedly forcing the connector can damage the contacts. Contact Shokz support or use the warranty process instead.
Use a magnetic cable designed for the exact Shokz model. Similar-looking magnetic connectors are not proof of electrical compatibility, and the charging connector is not identical across every Shokz family.

Escalate persistent pairing, charging, microphone, disconnection or other hardware problems after completing the model-correct reset, a clean one-device pairing and the basic cable or driver checks. Record the exact model, the host operating-system version, the steps already attempted and any LED, voice prompt, beep or vibration you observed. That information helps support distinguish a Bluetooth configuration issue from a hardware fault.
Shokz states that headphones purchased from its official website and authorized retailers carry a two-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Warranty terms can vary by region and may change, so verify the current terms for the country where the headphones were purchased before sending the product for service. Keep proof of purchase and use the Customer Happiness or warranty channel specified for that region.
Use support rather than continuing home repairs when the headset has no prompt sounds at any volume, will not charge with a model-compatible cable and alternate adapter, repeatedly loses connection with several clean hosts, or develops a microphone fault after the Bluetooth checks. These symptoms can indicate hardware rather than a forgotten pairing.

Why are my Shokz connected but silent?
Raise both the host and headset volume, select Shokz as the active output, and check that Media Audio is enabled for the Shokz entry on Android. Also center the accessibility left-right balance and test another audio source.
Why can I hear prompts but not music?
The Bluetooth connection may be active while media is routed elsewhere. Select Shokz in the system output controls, verify Media Audio, and reset and re-pair if prompts work but media remains silent.
Why do Shokz disconnect when I answer a call on another device?
Two-device behavior depends on the headset, host and Bluetooth transmitter. Test with one device, then add the second through the model’s multipoint procedure. Shokz documents a case in which an Apple device can drop when another paired device is on a call.
What should I do if Shokz will not charge?
Align the magnetic connector without forcing it, try another model-compatible magnetic cable and use a different charging adapter or USB source. If there is still no charging indication after several minutes, stop forcing the connector and contact Shokz support or warranty service.
Can a Windows Bluetooth adapter fix pairing?
It can be worth investigating if the built-in radio remains unreliable with multiple headsets, but first update the Windows Bluetooth driver and perform a clean forget-and-repair cycle. Adapter, driver and audio-profile compatibility are not universal.
Does the OpenRun reset work on Shokz earbuds with a charging case?
Not necessarily. Case-based earbuds use different controls and reset instructions. Identify the exact model and follow its manual rather than applying the three-button OpenRun sequence.
When should I use Shokz warranty support?
Escalate after a model-correct reset, clean one-device pairing, driver checks and compatible cable tests fail. No prompt sounds, persistent charging failure, repeated disconnects across several hosts or a microphone fault can justify support review. Shokz states that purchases from its official website and authorized retailers carry a two-year manufacturer-defect warranty, subject to regional terms.
