Identify your Hammerhead model and connection method
The model name printed on the case, packaging, or Razer Audio app determines which instructions apply. Do not assume that a gesture from one Hammerhead generation will work on another.

For a replacement or a new purchase, the full model name and code matter more than the generic “Razer earbuds” label. The HyperSpeed for Xbox and V3 X HyperSpeed for Xbox are different products, and the PlayStation version uses its own console-targeted configuration. Retailer stock, listings, prices, and affiliate eligibility change, so verify the model code and current listing at the time of purchase.
Keep the original dongle with the headset. A USB-C connector may fit physically while still being the wrong radio or firmware pairing. Replacement cases, ear tips, and dongles should likewise be identified by the complete Hammerhead model and product code.

Pair Razer earbuds with a Windows PC over Bluetooth
Before you start
- Confirm that the computer has Bluetooth hardware. A desktop without Bluetooth needs a compatible Bluetooth adapter.
- Charge the earbuds and case enough to complete setup. A case with very little power can create misleading connection behavior.
- Keep the earbuds within one metre of the computer while pairing.
- Disconnect or remove an old connection if the earbuds are already actively connected to another host.
- Have the model name ready so you can distinguish the earbuds from similarly named Bluetooth devices.
Windows 11 or Windows 10 pairing steps
- Open Windows Settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Choose Add Bluetooth or other device.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode. On the original Hammerhead True Wireless, opening the charging case enters pairing mode the first time. To pair that model with a new device, tap and hold both earbuds for four seconds until you hear the pairing cue. Other generations can use a different gesture, so follow the control sequence for the model shown in the table above or in its manual.
- Wait for the Razer Hammerhead name to appear, then select it.
- Keep the earbuds nearby until the “Bluetooth Connected” cue confirms the connection.
If Windows does not discover the earbuds, do not repeatedly select an old, saved entry. Return the earbuds to pairing mode, toggle Windows Bluetooth off and on, and start the Add Bluetooth or other device process again. Staying within one metre reduces the chance that a weak initial signal or another nearby host captures the pairing attempt.
If Windows says connected but you hear nothing
- Select the speaker icon on the taskbar, open the output-device list, and choose the Razer earbuds rather than the computer’s built-in speakers, monitor, or another headset.
- Raise the Windows volume and the source application’s volume, and check that neither is muted.
- Close and reopen the application after changing the output device. Some games and media programs keep the device selected when they launch.
- If laptop audio cuts in and out, check for an Intel wireless-driver update. Razer identifies outdated Intel wireless drivers as a possible cause of intermittent laptop Bluetooth audio.
- If the earbuds do not appear in the Add Bluetooth device list, turn Bluetooth off and on, return the earbuds to pairing mode, and repeat the one-metre setup.
Windows can show separate entries for a stereo playback profile and a hands-free communications profile. For music and games, choose the stereo Razer output when Windows offers more than one Razer audio entry. The hands-free profile is intended for microphone calls and can change audio quality. If only one application is silent, check that program’s own audio-device selector as well as the Windows system output.
Connect Razer earbuds to PlayStation
Use the HyperSpeed dongle for console audio
The Hammerhead HyperSpeed for PlayStation is designed to send console audio through its supplied USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle. Insert the dongle into the console’s USB-C port, or use a compatible USB connection arrangement if your console setup requires one, then turn on the earbuds and select the Razer device in the console’s audio settings if it is not selected automatically. The dongle is the appropriate route for the model’s wireless PlayStation audio; its Bluetooth function is for compatible Bluetooth hosts rather than a replacement for every console connection.

- Charge the case and earbuds.
- Connect the model’s matching USB-C HyperSpeed dongle to the PlayStation.
- Remove the earbuds from the case and wait for them to connect to the dongle.
- Open the PlayStation sound or audio-output settings and confirm the Razer device is selected for output and, when needed, microphone input.
- Play a short clip and adjust both console and earbud source volume.
If the console continues to use its television, controller, or another headset, selecting the Razer output manually is necessary. Test both game audio and chat because an output setting can be correct while the microphone input remains assigned elsewhere.
When only one PlayStation earbud connects
Put both earbuds in the charging case, close the lid for about five seconds, and reopen it. This re-establishes the pair between the earbuds before they reconnect to the dongle. If the behavior returns, charge the case fully and repeat the sequence with the dongle still connected.

Connect Razer earbuds to Xbox
Hammerhead HyperSpeed for Xbox (RZ12-038202)
Use the included USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle for Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One wireless audio. The same model can use Bluetooth with compatible phones, tablets, handhelds, PCs, Macs, and other hosts, but the Xbox audio path is the dongle.
- Plug the matching USB-C HyperSpeed dongle into the Xbox.
- Power on or remove the earbuds from their charged case.
- Wait for the earbuds and dongle to establish the HyperSpeed link.
- Open the Xbox audio settings and choose the Razer earbuds for headset output and chat input if the console does not select them automatically.
- Test game audio and chat separately, then adjust the Xbox volume controls.
Do not judge the Bluetooth connection from the phone’s saved-device list while the dongle is active. Razer describes the dongle as taking priority because plugging it in signals the intended HyperSpeed route. To use the phone again, disconnect the dongle or use the model’s Bluetooth or SmartSwitch control.
Hammerhead V3 X HyperSpeed for Xbox
The V3 X HyperSpeed supports Xbox, PC, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS/iPadOS. When it is connected to Xbox and PC, it can switch between Xbox and PC modes automatically. To switch modes manually, place both earbuds in the case and press the case button twice. Wait for the mode indication before removing the earbuds.
For a phone or another Bluetooth host, use Bluetooth pairing instead of assuming that the console dongle will handle that device. The V3 X uses Bluetooth 5.3, while the HyperSpeed for Xbox uses Bluetooth 5.2. That Bluetooth-version distinction is a model specification, not a guarantee that every host will expose identical features.
Pair Razer earbuds with an iPhone or Android phone
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and enable Bluetooth.
- Put the earbuds into pairing mode. On the original Hammerhead True Wireless, tap and hold both earbuds for four seconds. The exact gesture can vary on later models.
- Choose the Razer Hammerhead model name in the phone’s available-device list.
- Wait for the Bluetooth-connected confirmation.
- Play audio and select the Razer earbuds as the output if the phone continues using its speaker or another previously connected device.
Razer recommends the Razer Audio app for supported devices. The app can help identify a compatible model and expose model-specific settings, but it does not change the basic requirement that the earbuds must first be placed in Bluetooth pairing mode. If the phone has an old Hammerhead entry, remove that entry only after putting the earbuds back into pairing mode; otherwise the phone may keep trying a stale connection.

Choose Bluetooth or the HyperSpeed dongle when both are available
HyperSpeed models can remember a Bluetooth phone while also using a USB-C dongle for a console or computer. Plugging in the dongle can take priority over Bluetooth because the earbuds interpret the dongle connection as the intended active route. In that situation, the phone may still list the earbuds, but sound is sent through HyperSpeed instead.

- For console audio, leave the matching dongle connected and use the console’s selected headset output.
- For phone audio, remove or disconnect the dongle, then select the earbuds in the phone’s Bluetooth menu.
- On models with SmartSwitch or a mode control, use that control to return to Bluetooth rather than repeatedly deleting and re-adding the phone pairing.
- If the V3 X is connected to both Xbox and PC, allow its automatic mode selection to finish, or use the case-button double press for a manual change.
This behavior is useful when one set of earbuds moves between a console and a phone, but it can look like a failed Bluetooth pairing. Check the active route before resetting anything: a connected dongle, not a damaged Bluetooth record, may be receiving the audio.
Fix common pairing and audio problems
Only one earbud works
First, put both earbuds in the charging case, close the lid for about five seconds, and reopen it. This is the documented recovery step for the PlayStation HyperSpeed model and is also useful for the Xbox HyperSpeed pairing state. On the HyperSpeed Xbox documentation, another re-pair sequence is to tap both earbuds four times, holding the last tap for two seconds, until both earbuds produce the confirmation tone. Use that sequence only when it matches your model’s instructions.
Make sure both earbuds actually make contact with the charging pins. If one remains outside the case or the case is too low to charge, the pair may not synchronize. Charge the case, repeat the five-second closed-lid step, and test again before attempting a deeper reset.
The phone says the earbuds are connected while they are in the case
A blinking-red, low-power case may not have enough energy to charge the earbuds or signal that they are stored. Recharge the case, place both earbuds inside, close the lid, and then check the phone’s Bluetooth list again. A phone can continue to display a connection when the case has insufficient power to complete the charging and disconnect behavior.

The dongle no longer pairs with the earbuds
Use Razer’s Headset Pairing Utility on a PC. Select the exact headset model and its matching dongle, then follow the on-screen pairing steps. Choosing a different Hammerhead model or an unrelated dongle can prevent the utility from completing the link. Keep the dongle connected directly while the utility runs and do not substitute a dongle from another product.
Bluetooth keeps dropping on a laptop
- Keep the earbuds within one metre during setup and test playback.
- Confirm that Windows is using the Razer device as the output rather than switching back to the laptop speakers.
- Install current Intel wireless drivers when the laptop uses Intel wireless hardware and the audio cuts in and out.
- Move away from competing wireless devices during the test, then retry pairing after returning the earbuds to the case for five seconds.
The earbuds connect but an application has no sound
Check the application’s own audio-device selector as well as Windows, Xbox, or PlayStation system output. A system-level connection does not force every application to change its previously chosen output. Unmute the source, raise its volume, and restart the application after selecting the Razer device.

When comparing models, check five practical differences: the console target and included dongle, Bluetooth version and mobile compatibility, whether Xbox/PC switching is automatic, firmware and pairing-utility support, and the availability of replacement cases, ear tips, and dongles. A lower price is not useful if the model lacks the console mode or replacement parts you need.
What to check before replacing a part
- Verify that the replacement case, ear tips, and USB-C dongle are for the exact Hammerhead model.
- Confirm that the case can charge the earbuds and is not showing a persistent low-power red blink.
- Keep the original dongle with its headset; a dongle from another model is not an interchangeable substitute.
- Record the model code, such as RZ12-038202 for the Hammerhead HyperSpeed for Xbox, before contacting support or looking for a replacement.
- Check whether the issue follows the earbuds to another compatible host. If Bluetooth works on a phone but HyperSpeed does not, focus on the dongle pairing rather than replacing the earbuds.
