Android, iPhone, Windows 11, and Windows 10 each use a slightly different Bluetooth menu.
What you need before pairing
Motorola wireless earbuds use standard Bluetooth audio, so they can connect to phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices that support Bluetooth and audio output. Motorola describes compatibility across Android, iOS, Windows, and other operating systems. The exact Bluetooth name is not identical across every Moto Buds generation: select the device name your phone or computer actually displays, usually moto buds or a model-specific name.

Check the earbuds and case
- Remove every protective film or shipping sticker from the earbuds and charging contacts.
- Put both earbuds in the charging case and confirm they are seated correctly.
- Check the battery level of the source device and the earbuds.
- If the case is low or the earbuds do not respond, connect the case to a charger for at least 30 minutes before trying again.
Keep the case open during setup. Closing it can stop pairing mode or make the earbuds unavailable to the device you are configuring.

If automatic pairing does not start, use the manual method before troubleshooting further. Do not hold the button for 12 seconds unless you intend to erase the existing pairing information and reset the earbuds.

Pair Motorola earbuds with an Android phone
Android manufacturers arrange menus differently, but the Bluetooth controls are normally in the Settings app. On a Motorola phone, the full path is Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. You can also swipe down from the top of the screen and touch and hold the Bluetooth tile to open Bluetooth settings.
- Open Settings and turn on Bluetooth. On a Motorola phone, go to Connected devices > Pair new device.
- Place both earbuds in the charging case and leave the lid open. They should enter pairing mode automatically.
- If Android displays a pairing prompt, tap Connect and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If no prompt appears, press and hold the case function button for 2 seconds. Release it when the LED begins flashing blue.
- Look under available devices and tap the displayed moto buds entry or the exact model name shown by your earbuds.
- Accept any remaining prompts. Android may offer to install or open the Moto Buds app for additional controls and setup.
If Android says pairing failed
Keep the case open and verify that the blue LED is flashing before selecting the earbuds. If the listing disappears, close and reopen the case, wait a moment, and repeat the two-second button hold. A low case battery, protective film left on a charging contact, or an earlier connection to another nearby device can prevent the listing from appearing.
Connect Moto Buds to an iPhone
iPhone pairing is performed from the Bluetooth page in Settings rather than from a separate Motorola pairing screen.

- Put both earbuds in the open charging case.
- Wait for automatic pairing mode. If no prompt or device listing appears, hold the case function button for 2 seconds until the LED flashes blue.
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Wait under Other Devices for moto buds or the model name displayed by your earbuds.
- Tap that entry and wait for it to move to My Devices or show a connected status.
The earbuds do not need a special iPhone pairing protocol. The optional Moto Buds app can provide setup prompts or controls, but the initial Bluetooth connection is completed in iOS Settings.

Pair with a Windows 11 PC or laptop
Windows 11 places Bluetooth controls in the Bluetooth & devices section of Settings and also exposes a quick route from the taskbar.
- Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices, then turn Bluetooth on.
- Open the Moto Buds case with both earbuds inside.
- Hold the case function button for 2 seconds until the LED flashes blue. This makes the earbuds discoverable even when Windows does not show an automatic prompt.
- Select one of the Network, Sound, or Battery icons near the taskbar clock.
- Choose Manage Bluetooth devices.
- Under New devices, select the Moto Buds headphones or the model name shown by the case.
- Wait for Windows to finish connecting. If Windows presents a confirmation prompt, approve it.
Use the full Windows 11 Settings path
If the taskbar panel does not expose the device list, remain in Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices and use the page’s option to add or select a new Bluetooth device. Keep the case open and the blue LED flashing while you search.
Pair with a Windows 10 PC or laptop
Windows 10 uses a different Settings path and labels the add-device control explicitly.

- Select Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Choose Add Bluetooth or other device, then select Bluetooth.
- Open the charging case with both earbuds inside. If they are not already discoverable, hold the function button for 2 seconds until the LED flashes blue.
- Select the Moto Buds device or the model name shown in the list.
- Complete any prompts and select Done.
After the first successful setup, Motorola says the PC will usually reconnect automatically when the earbuds and computer are within range and Bluetooth is enabled on both.

How to tell whether pairing succeeded
- The device changes from an available or new device to a connected status.
- Audio output options on the phone or PC include the Moto Buds.
- Sound plays through the earbuds instead of the built-in speaker after you select them as the output device.
- On a phone, reopening the case later normally reconnects the earbuds without repeating the full setup.
Bluetooth pairing and audio routing are separate. A computer can show the earbuds as connected while continuing to send sound to its internal speakers; in that case, choose the Moto Buds as the active audio output in the system sound controls.
Why Moto Buds do not appear in Bluetooth
Work through these checks in order. The early steps preserve your existing pairing; resetting should be the last resort.
1. Remove film and confirm charge
Inspect the underside of each earbud and the charging wells for protective film. Confirm that the source phone or computer has charge and that the earbuds are making contact in the case. If the case appears unresponsive or nearly empty, charge it for at least 30 minutes, then retry with the lid open.

2. Force pairing mode
Leave both earbuds in the open case and hold the function button for 2 seconds. A flashing blue LED indicates that the earbuds are advertising themselves for Bluetooth discovery. Return to the device’s Bluetooth page and refresh or reopen the add-device screen.

3. Use the Moto Buds app recovery flow
If normal Bluetooth discovery still fails, open the Moto Buds app. Leave the earbuds in the case with the lid open, hold the case action button until the blue light blinks, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. The app can guide the device back into pairing mode when a standard Bluetooth scan does not find it.
4. Eliminate competing connections
Move the case close to the phone or computer and temporarily turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that have previously used the earbuds. This prevents the buds from reconnecting elsewhere while you are trying to add them to a new device. Keep only the device you are configuring actively searching.
5. Reset the earbuds
Use a factory reset only after the battery, film, manual pairing, and Moto Buds app steps have failed. A reset removes the earbuds’ existing pairing state, so every phone or computer that used them may need to be paired again.
How to factory-reset Motorola earbuds
- Put both earbuds into the charging case.
- Leave the case open and press and hold the function button for 12 seconds.
- Release the button after the reset sequence completes.
- Return to the Bluetooth instructions for Android, iPhone, Windows 11, or Windows 10 and pair the earbuds as a new device.
The 12-second hold is different from the two-second hold used to enter pairing mode. Holding the button for the shorter interval makes the earbuds discoverable; holding it for 12 seconds performs the factory-reset procedure.

When resetting the phone or PC network settings is appropriate
If the earbuds pair successfully with another device but one phone still cannot discover or connect to them, the problem may be local to that device’s saved Bluetooth or network configuration. Motorola’s troubleshooting guidance includes resetting the phone’s network settings when the earlier steps do not resolve pairing. Use that option only when you understand its wider effect: network settings resets can remove saved Wi-Fi networks and other network-related preferences, not just the Moto Buds entry. Afterward, enable Bluetooth and repeat the normal pairing procedure.

Common mistakes that prevent a connection
- Searching with the case closed: keep the lid open and both earbuds inside while pairing.
- Choosing the wrong Bluetooth name: generations can display different names, so select the exact moto buds or model entry shown on your device.
- Using the reset hold for ordinary pairing: two seconds enters pairing mode; 12 seconds resets the earbuds.
- Ignoring the case battery: earbuds may not advertise themselves when the case is depleted. Charge for at least 30 minutes.
- Leaving shipping film in place: film can block charging contacts and make an apparently new pair seem dead.
- Assuming “connected” means audio is routed: select the earbuds in the phone’s or PC’s audio-output control if sound remains on the built-in speaker.
What to do after a successful reset or first pairing
Once the earbuds appear as connected, play a short audio clip and verify that both sides produce sound. Close and reopen the case to confirm that the device reconnects. If you pair with more than one phone or computer, remember that the earbuds may reconnect to a nearby device that has Bluetooth enabled; turn Bluetooth off on the unused device while establishing a new connection.
The same basic process applies across supported Motorola earbud generations: open the case for automatic pairing, use the two-second button hold when manual discovery is needed, and reserve the 12-second hold for a complete reset.
