The headphones enter pairing mode automatically on first power-on when their pairing list is empty. You do not need Smart Control Plus to make the initial Bluetooth connection.
Pair MOMENTUM 5 with your phone for the first time

Press the headphones’ multifunction/power button once to turn them on. If they have no devices in their pairing list, they automatically enter Bluetooth pairing mode.

On your phone, open Bluetooth settings, turn Bluetooth on, and choose the option to search for or pair a new device. The exact menu labels vary by phone and software version.

Choose MOMENTUM 5 from the discovered-device list. If the headphones’ name was changed in Smart Control Plus, select the customized name instead.

Wait for the headphones to announce “Pairing successful” and then “Connected.” The LED flashes white three times when pairing succeeds.
If the headphones do not enter pairing mode
Use the manual’s pairing-mode sequence: switch the headphones off by pressing the multifunction button for two seconds, place them no more than 20 cm from the phone, then press the button once to turn them on. The LEDs flash alternately white as pairing mode starts. Select the headphones from the phone’s Bluetooth device list.

Pair a second phone or other device
MOMENTUM 5 Wireless supports multipoint connections with two devices. To add a second one, hold the headphones’ power button for five seconds until you hear an audio prompt. Then open Bluetooth settings on the second device, search for available devices, and select the headphones.

Fix common pairing problems

The headphones do not appear: Make sure Bluetooth is on, keep the phone nearby, and confirm the headphones are in pairing mode. If they have already been configured, look for their current saved name rather than assuming it is still “MOMENTUM 5.”

Pairing does not complete: Pairing mode is canceled if no connection is established within two minutes, after which the headphones enter standby. Repeat the pairing steps.

The headphones connect but audio is not coming from the expected device: With two paired devices, the headphones switch sources according to active audio, calls, or notifications. Check which device is playing audio and check the volume on both the source device and the headphones.

Optional app and other connection methods
Smart Control Plus is available for iOS and Android and provides access to the headphones’ feature set, including the option to customize their Bluetooth name. It is not required for initial pairing, which is completed in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
Bluetooth is the ordinary wireless method for connecting to a phone. USB-C or AUX can be used for wired listening, while Sennheiser’s BTD 700 adapter is an optional way to access aptX when a source does not support it natively; neither is required for basic phone pairing.
