To pair Marshall Major V for the first time, turn the headphones off, then press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds. Release it when the LED changes to a slow blue pulse. Open Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or Android phone and select MAJOR V. The Marshall Bluetooth app is optional; ordinary Bluetooth audio does not require it.
First pairing: the method that works on both phones
Major V uses the same headphone controls for iPhone and Android. The important details are the starting state (headphones off), the roughly two-second hold, the slow blue LED pulse, and the exact device name shown on the phone: MAJOR V.

- Disconnect any 3.5 mm cable from the headphones. A connected cable can interfere with the wireless setup.
- Turn Major V off.
- Press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds.
- Release the knob when the LED changes to a slow blue pulse. That pulse indicates pairing mode.
- Open your phone’s Bluetooth settings and switch Bluetooth on.
- Wait for MAJOR V to appear in the available-device list, then tap it.
- Wait for the phone to show that Major V is connected before playing audio.
Marshall’s manual describes the critical control sequence as: “Push and hold the Control knob until the LED turns to a slow blue pulse.” It then instructs you to “Select MAJOR V from your sound device’s Bluetooth® list.” If the name does not appear, leave the Bluetooth screen open while repeating the off-and-hold procedure rather than selecting an old saved entry.

Pairing with an iPhone
- With Major V switched off and no 3.5 mm cable attached, press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds.
- Release it at the slow blue pulse.
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Under the list of available devices, tap MAJOR V.
- After the status changes to connected, start playback from the iPhone.
If the iPhone lists an older MAJOR V or MAJOR V [LE] record under My Devices, do not use that record for a fresh setup. Remove the saved record first, put the headphones back into pairing mode, and select the newly displayed MAJOR V.

Pairing with an Android phone
- Turn Major V off, then hold the Control knob for about two seconds until the LED slowly pulses blue.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth page. Depending on the Android manufacturer and version, it may be under Settings > Bluetooth or Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device.
- Enable Bluetooth if it is off and wait for the scan to show MAJOR V.
- Tap MAJOR V and accept a pairing prompt if Android displays one.
- Confirm that Major V is shown as connected, then play audio.
Android menus differ between manufacturers, but the headphone-side sequence does not: the headphones must be off before the approximately two-second hold, and the LED must be in its slow blue pulse before you select the device.
What the LED and device name tell you
- Slow blue pulse: Major V is in Bluetooth pairing mode and should be visible in the phone’s available-device list.
- MAJOR V: This is the name to select for normal Bluetooth audio.
- MAJOR V [LE]: If an old entry with this name is saved, remove it when troubleshooting a failed or stale connection. The documented first-pairing instruction is to select MAJOR V.
- Purple LED after a reset: The factory-reset operation has been triggered. A reset clears user settings and requires the headphones to be paired again.
Do not start by holding the knob while Major V is already on if you are attempting the first pairing. The documented first-device procedure starts with the headphones off. The on-state double press described below is for adding another phone.
Pair a second phone while Major V is on
Major V can maintain connections with two devices at a time and remembers up to 10 previously paired devices. To add another phone without starting over:

- Double-press the Control knob.
- Watch for the LED to pulse blue, indicating that the headphones are ready to pair another device.
- On the second phone, open Bluetooth settings and select MAJOR V.
The first phone can remain paired while the second phone is added. When Major V is in range of remembered devices, it attempts to reconnect to the last connected device. If you want the second phone to become the active connection, use that phone’s Bluetooth page to select MAJOR V after the second-device pairing has completed.

Bluetooth, the Marshall app and the wired connection
There are three ways the setup process can be confused: ordinary Bluetooth pairing, optional app-assisted setup, and the included wired connection. They serve different purposes.
| Setup option | What it does | What you need to do |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Bluetooth | Connects Major V to a phone for wireless audio | Use the Control knob to enter pairing mode, then select MAJOR V in the phone’s Bluetooth list |
| Marshall Bluetooth app | Provides setup, customization and firmware-update features | Install it only if you want those features; it is not required for ordinary Bluetooth audio |
| 3.5 mm wired connection | Connects the headphones through the included analog cable instead of Bluetooth | Unplug the cable before attempting wireless pairing or troubleshooting Bluetooth discovery |
The app does not replace the Bluetooth pairing step for ordinary audio. You still select MAJOR V from the phone’s Bluetooth list. If you install the app, remove any stale Major V entries from both the phone and the app when a connection becomes corrupted.
When your phone cannot find Major V
Work through these checks in order. Each one addresses a different reason the headphones may be absent from the available-device list.
1. Remove the 3.5 mm cable
Disconnect the cable completely from Major V. Then turn the headphones off and repeat the first-pairing sequence. The cable is the first physical check because a plugged-in wired connection can prevent the wireless setup you are trying to start.

2. Make sure Major V is not already connected elsewhere
Major V may be connected to another phone, tablet or computer that is nearby. Turn Bluetooth off on those devices temporarily, or disconnect Major V from their Bluetooth menus. Then switch Major V off and hold the Control knob until the LED slowly pulses blue.
3. Use the correct first-pairing state
For a first phone, begin with the headphones off. Hold the Control knob for about two seconds and release it only after the slow blue pulse appears. Opening the phone’s Bluetooth page before this LED state is active can leave the phone scanning while Major V is not advertising itself for a new connection.
4. Search for the exact name
Look for MAJOR V, not a generic entry such as “Marshall” and not an old MAJOR V [LE] record. If the phone has already saved an earlier Major V entry, use the phone’s option to forget or remove it, then scan again while the blue pulse is active.
5. Remove stale entries on both sides
On the phone, forget every saved Major V entry that relates to the failed setup. If you use the Marshall Bluetooth app, remove the saved Major V device there as well. Turn the headphones off, repeat the two-second hold, and select the newly appearing MAJOR V. This creates a clean pairing record instead of reusing a damaged one.

Factory reset when normal pairing still fails
A factory reset is the last recovery step, not a routine way to enter pairing mode. Use it only after removing the saved entries and repeating the documented pairing procedure.
- Forget or remove the saved Major V entries from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- If the Marshall Bluetooth app is installed, remove the saved Major V device there too.
- On the headphones, press and hold the Control knob and the M-button together for 10 seconds.
- Release both controls when the LED turns purple.
- After the reset, start the first-pairing procedure: with Major V off, hold the Control knob for about two seconds until the LED slowly pulses blue.
- Return to the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select MAJOR V.
The reset deletes user settings. It also removes the practical benefit of the previous pairing history, so the phones must be paired again. If two phones were connected before the reset, repeat the additional-phone procedure after the first phone has been paired.
How remembered devices and two-phone connections behave
Major V remembers up to 10 previously paired devices. Remembering a device is not the same as maintaining an active connection to all 10: the headphones can connect with two devices at a time. When several remembered devices are nearby, Major V tries to reconnect to the last connected device.

- If the wrong remembered phone reconnects, disconnect Major V from that phone or temporarily turn off its Bluetooth, then select MAJOR V on the phone you want to use.
- If you are adding a phone for the first time, use the on-state double press rather than deleting every existing pairing.
- If the two-phone arrangement becomes unreliable, remove stale entries and pair the phones again in the order you intend to use them. A full reset is available if ordinary removal does not resolve it.
Choosing the right recovery instead of resetting
| What you see | Best next action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Major V is absent from the phone’s list | Turn Major V off, hold the Control knob for about two seconds, and wait for the slow blue pulse | The headphones are not yet in the documented first-pairing mode |
| An old MAJOR V or MAJOR V [LE] record is present but connection fails | Forget or remove the old record, then pair with the newly displayed MAJOR V | A stale saved record can block a clean pairing |
| A second phone must be added | With Major V on, double-press the Control knob and select MAJOR V on the second phone | This is the documented additional-device procedure |
| A cable is connected | Unplug the 3.5 mm cable before retrying Bluetooth | Wireless pairing troubleshooting should be performed without the wired connection attached |
| All normal steps fail after entries are removed | Hold Control knob and M-button together for 10 seconds; release at the purple LED, then pair again | The factory reset clears user settings and requires a fresh pairing |
What to expect after a successful pairing
Once the phone shows Major V as connected, Bluetooth audio is ready without the Marshall app. The app remains useful for its setup, customization and firmware-update features, but installing it is not a prerequisite for listening.
Major V was released in 2024 and is specified by Marshall for more than 100 hours of wireless playtime. Those product specifications do not change the pairing controls: first pairing still uses the off-state, approximately two-second hold, while an additional phone uses the on-state double press.
