How to Pair JBL Live Beam 4 Earbuds With a Phone, Laptop, or Tablet

To pair JBL Live Beam 4 earbuds for the first time, turn on Bluetooth discovery on your phone, laptop, or tablet, start the earbuds’ first-use sequence with the two-second hold shown in JBL’s Quick Start Guide, then choose JBL Live Beam 4. Android 6 or later can use Google Fast Pair, and Windows 10/11 or newer can use Microsoft Swift Pair. Every other host can use its normal Bluetooth device list.

The JBL Headphones app is optional for basic Bluetooth pairing. It adds controls and personalization after the earbuds are connected, so you do not need to buy an accessory or install an app just to establish the first connection.

What you need before pairing

Have the earbuds and the host device—the phone, laptop, or tablet you want to use—near each other. Turn on Bluetooth discovery on the host before starting the connection. JBL’s guide identifies the earbuds in Bluetooth menus as JBL Live Beam 4; that is the exact name to select.

  • For Android Fast Pair, the phone must run Android 6 or later.
  • For Windows Swift Pair, the computer must run Windows 10/11 or newer.
  • For other phones, tablets, Macs, Chromebooks, and Bluetooth computers, use the host’s ordinary Bluetooth device list.
  • For first use, follow the illustrated sequence in JBL’s Quick Start Guide, including the two-second hold shown before the connection-selection panel appears.
  • Keep the host’s Bluetooth screen or discovery area open while the earbuds are being detected.

The extracted guide does not identify the physical control in enough detail to name its location confidently. Do not assume that a particular button, touch area, or case control is required unless it is clearly shown on your copy of the guide.

Pairing is a Bluetooth connection, not an app-registration step. The free JBL Headphones app can be installed later for personalization, but it is not listed as a prerequisite for the basic connection flow.

Choose the pairing method for your device

Host Connection route What you select Documented requirement Best fallback
Android phone Google Fast Pair Accept the JBL Live Beam 4 prompt Android 6 or later Use the standard Bluetooth list
Windows laptop or desktop Microsoft Swift Pair Select Connect in the “New JBL Live Beam 4 found” notification Windows 10/11 or newer Use the standard Windows Bluetooth list
iPhone, iPad, Mac, Chromebook, Android tablet without Fast Pair, or another Bluetooth host Standard Bluetooth list Choose JBL Live Beam 4 Use the host’s normal Bluetooth discovery screen Refresh discovery and repeat the first-use sequence

Fast Pair and Swift Pair are assisted prompts: the operating system notices the earbuds and offers a connection card or notification. The general Bluetooth route is manual, but it uses the same product name. None of the three routes requires a separate Bluetooth adapter when the host already has Bluetooth.

JBL’s model-specific guide documents the assisted Android and Windows routes but does not provide a menu-by-menu sequence for every iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, or tablet release. Menu names can differ by version, so use the Bluetooth settings screen supplied by your device and select the exact product name shown above.

Pair with an Android phone using Fast Pair

  1. Open Bluetooth settings on the Android phone and make sure Bluetooth discovery is active. The exact location of the setting can vary by Android version and phone manufacturer.
  2. Begin the JBL Live Beam 4 first-use procedure shown in the Quick Start Guide. The illustrated sequence includes holding the indicated control for two seconds.
  3. Keep the earbuds close to the phone while the connection panel appears.
  4. When Android shows the JBL Live Beam 4 Fast Pair prompt, review the device name and accept the connection.
  5. Wait for Android to report that the earbuds are connected before playing audio.

The guide describes the Android view as JBL Live Beam 4 appearing on devices associated with the user’s account, followed by a Connect prompt. That account-associated presentation is part of Fast Pair’s assisted flow; it does not change the Bluetooth name you should look for.

If the Fast Pair card does not appear, use the standard Bluetooth-list method described below rather than trying to guess a hidden JBL menu. A missing card does not by itself mean the earbuds cannot pair with the phone.

Pair with a Windows laptop using Swift Pair

  1. Open the Windows Bluetooth controls and turn Bluetooth on. Leave the Bluetooth discovery area visible if Windows asks you to do so.
  2. Start the earbuds’ first-use sequence from JBL’s illustrated guide, including its two-second hold.
  3. With the earbuds near the computer, wait for the Windows notification that says “New JBL Live Beam 4 found”.
  4. Select Connect. JBL’s guide states the instruction as: “To pair your headphones, select Connect.”
  5. After Windows confirms the connection, choose the earbuds as the sound output if the computer continues using its speakers.

Swift Pair is the assisted Windows route documented by JBL for Windows 10/11 or newer. If no notification appears, open the ordinary Windows Bluetooth device list and look for JBL Live Beam 4 instead. The notification is a convenience prompt, not a different product or a required license.

If a computer offers separate sound-output and microphone choices, select the Live Beam 4 entry appropriate to the task. The guide establishes the Bluetooth connection; the host’s own sound controls determine which connected device is used for playback or calls.

Pair with an iPhone or iPad

JBL’s Live Beam 4 guide does not enumerate the exact settings labels for iOS or iPadOS. Use the standard Bluetooth procedure supplied by your device:

  1. Open the device’s Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. Put the earbuds through the first-use sequence shown in the JBL guide, including the illustrated two-second hold.
  3. Wait for the list of discoverable devices to refresh.
  4. Tap JBL Live Beam 4 when that exact name appears.
  5. Accept any confirmation shown by the phone or tablet and wait for the status to change to connected.

If the earbuds are not listed, keep the Bluetooth screen open while repeating the first-use sequence. The guide supports selecting the named earbuds from the device list; it does not establish a separate iOS-only pairing command. Avoid selecting a similarly named saved device if you are trying to establish a fresh connection.

Pair with a Mac, Chromebook, Android tablet, or another Bluetooth host

For hosts without the documented Fast Pair or Swift Pair prompt, use the regular Bluetooth device list. JBL’s “Others” panel gives the essential instruction: “Choose ‘JBL Live Beam 4’ to connect.”

  1. Open the host’s Bluetooth settings and enable Bluetooth discovery.
  2. Start the Live Beam 4 first-use sequence and perform the two-second hold shown in the guide.
  3. Wait for nearby devices to populate.
  4. Select JBL Live Beam 4, not a similarly named or previously saved entry.
  5. Confirm the connection if the host asks, then select the earbuds as the audio output or input device where necessary.

The exact menu path and labels depend on the operating system and its release. JBL’s guide does not list every iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, or tablet screen, so this device-list method is the supported general instruction rather than a claim about a particular menu hierarchy.

If the host has separate controls for Bluetooth audio output and call input, configure those after the pairing status changes to connected. Pairing and choosing the active audio route are related but separate host-device actions.

Use two devices with multipoint

Live Beam 4 supports multipoint for up to two devices. That is intended for combinations such as a phone and a laptop, or a phone and a tablet. JBL’s product information describes switching connections among a phone, tablet, and laptop.

  1. Pair the earbuds with the first host using Fast Pair, Swift Pair, or the standard Bluetooth list.
  2. Put the earbuds through the appropriate pairing sequence for the second host and select JBL Live Beam 4 there, using the assisted prompt when available.
  3. Once both hosts are paired, keep both Bluetooth connections active. The earbuds can maintain connections with up to two devices.
  4. When you need audio from the other host, select the earbuds on that host or start playback there. The operating systems may differ in how they hand audio focus between connected devices.

Multipoint means two device connections, not unlimited saved devices and not a guarantee that every host will switch audio in exactly the same way. The two hosts may remain connected while only one supplies active audio at a time.

Multipoint’s documented limit is two devices; do not treat it as support for three or more simultaneous hosts. Pairing a third host may require disconnecting or removing one of the existing connections, depending on the host’s Bluetooth controls.

If JBL Live Beam 4 does not appear

Check the name and discovery state

Refresh the host’s Bluetooth list and look specifically for JBL Live Beam 4. Confirm that Bluetooth is on and that the host is actively scanning. A saved entry with a similar name is not proof that the current earbuds are discoverable.

Repeat the first-use sequence

The first-use illustration includes a two-second hold before the connection-selection panel. Repeat that sequence carefully while the host’s Bluetooth screen is open. Because the extracted guide does not clearly identify the physical control or describe a separate manual re-pair procedure, do not substitute an undocumented button combination.

Move away from another connected host

If the earbuds have already been paired with a phone, laptop, or tablet, that host may still be the active connection. Temporarily turn Bluetooth off on the other host, or use its normal Bluetooth controls to disconnect the earbuds, then scan again on the device you are trying to pair.

  • JBL Headphones app: Select the EQ that fits your style or customize your own. Voice Prompts in multiple languages give you useful information (e.g.if battery is running low). Or chill out and recharge in Relax Mode by choosing one of five peaceful sounds.

Remove a stale saved entry

If the host shows an old Live Beam 4 entry but will not complete the connection, use the host’s standard option to remove or forget that saved Bluetooth device, then repeat the first-use or discovery sequence. The exact wording differs by operating system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Try the ordinary list when an assisted prompt fails

Fast Pair and Swift Pair are convenience paths, not the only pairing routes. If Android does not display its prompt, or Windows does not show the “New JBL Live Beam 4 found” notification, open the regular Bluetooth list and choose the exact product name.

Do not confuse app setup with Bluetooth pairing

The JBL Headphones app is free and can provide additional control and personalization, but JBL’s basic Bluetooth flow is separate. You do not need the app merely to establish the initial Bluetooth connection.

Check which device is actually playing sound

A successful Bluetooth status does not always mean the host has switched audio output automatically. If audio still comes from the phone, tablet, or computer speakers, open that host’s sound-output controls and select the connected JBL Live Beam 4 entry.

What the JBL Headphones app adds after pairing

After Bluetooth pairing, the JBL Headphones app can be used for functions JBL describes for the Live Beam 4, including adjusting noise cancellation and ambient sound, checking fit, finding the earbuds, and customizing gestures. Those features are optional enhancements; selecting the earbuds from the host’s Bluetooth list remains the basic connection method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install the app only if you want those controls or personalization. Installing it will not replace the need to make the initial Bluetooth connection through Fast Pair, Swift Pair, or the ordinary device list.

Bluetooth and battery information relevant to setup

JBL/HARMAN’s 2026 specification material lists Bluetooth 6.0 and these profiles: A2DP V1.4 for stereo audio, AVRCP V1.6.3 for playback control, and HFP V1.8 for hands-free calling. A2DP relates to Bluetooth audio streaming, AVRCP to playback controls, and HFP to hands-free calling; these profile labels are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

The Bluetooth version and profiles do not alter the pairing menu. They are useful identification details if a host displays technical information, but the item you select remains JBL Live Beam 4.

JBL/HARMAN stated maximum Conditions
Up to 12 hours of music Bluetooth on, ANC off
Up to 10 hours of music Bluetooth and ANC on
Up to 8 hours of music Bluetooth and True Adaptive ANC on

Those battery figures are stated maximums from the 2026 manufacturer specification sheet, not measured results. They are context for use after pairing, not a prerequisite for connecting the earbuds. Actual listening time can depend on operating conditions and selected features, so do not treat the maximum figures as a pairing guarantee.

Which route should you use?

  • Android 6 or later: try the Fast Pair prompt first; fall back to the regular Bluetooth list if it does not appear.

  • iPhone, iPad, Mac, Chromebook, or another host: open the normal Bluetooth device list and choose JBL Live Beam 4.
  • Phone plus laptop or tablet: use multipoint, which supports up to two connected devices.
  • Already paired elsewhere: disconnect the other host or turn off its Bluetooth temporarily before scanning again.

Once the host reports a connection and the earbuds are selected as the audio output, pairing is complete. The app, ANC controls, and other personalization features can be configured afterward. No paid accessory or additional purchase is needed to follow these Bluetooth steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exact name should I select when pairing?

Select JBL Live Beam 4. That is the device name shown in JBL’s Quick Start Guide for the standard Bluetooth list and the assisted Android and Windows flows.

Do JBL Live Beam 4 earbuds work with an iPhone or iPad?

JBL’s guide does not provide an iOS-specific menu sequence, but it directs other Bluetooth hosts to choose JBL Live Beam 4 from the normal device list. Turn on Bluetooth, run the illustrated first-use sequence, and select that exact name.

Why did Android Fast Pair not appear?

Fast Pair is the assisted route documented for Android 6 or later. If its prompt does not appear, open Android’s ordinary Bluetooth device list and select JBL Live Beam 4 instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I click in Windows Swift Pair?

When Windows shows “New JBL Live Beam 4 found,” select Connect. JBL’s guide states, “To pair your headphones, select Connect.” If the notification is missing, use the regular Windows Bluetooth list.

Can I pair the earbuds with a phone and a laptop?

Yes. JBL lists multipoint for up to two devices and describes switching among a phone, tablet, and laptop. Pair each host separately, then keep both Bluetooth connections active.

Do I need the JBL Headphones app to pair?

No. The app is free and adds controls such as noise-cancellation and ambient-sound adjustment, fit checking, finding the earbuds, and gesture customization. Basic Bluetooth pairing uses the host’s pairing prompt or device list.

What if an old JBL Live Beam 4 entry is saved but will not connect?

Use the host’s standard remove-or-forget control for that saved Bluetooth entry, repeat the first-use sequence with its two-second hold, and scan again. The exact menu wording varies by operating system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How many devices can multipoint maintain?

The documented maximum is two connected devices. A third host may require disconnecting or removing one of the existing connections, depending on the host’s Bluetooth controls.

The Bottom Line

Run JBL’s illustrated first-use sequence, including the two-second hold, then select JBL Live Beam 4. Android 6+ can use Fast Pair, Windows 10/11 or newer can use Swift Pair, and other phones, tablets, Macs, and Chromebooks use their standard Bluetooth lists. Multipoint supports up to two devices, while the JBL Headphones app remains optional.
