To pair Bose QuietComfort headphones, put the headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode, open Bluetooth settings on your phone, laptop, or tablet, and select the Bose headphones from the device list. The exact button action, sound prompt, and device name depend on the QuietComfort model and firmware, so use model-specific steps if your controls differ.
How do I pair Bose QuietComfort headphones with my phone or tablet?
- Put the headphones into Bluetooth pairing or discoverable mode. The control and hold time vary by model; for QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), slide the Power/Bluetooth switch toward the Bluetooth symbol and hold it for three seconds. Wait for the discoverable tone and flashing blue status light. Bose’s instructions for QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) describe this sequence.
- On your phone or tablet, turn on Bluetooth and open its Bluetooth settings. Find the headphones in the available-device list and tap their name to connect. On Apple devices, Bose says the product appears under “Other Devices”; on Android devices, look under “Available Devices.”
- Wait for the connected prompt or confirmation on your device. For QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), Bose says the status light glows solid blue for ten seconds after connection.
You can also use the Bose app to set up supported headphones, but it is not required for direct Bluetooth pairing. Bose’s Bluetooth instructions and app guidance cover those routes. App menus may differ by product.

How do I connect Bose headphones to a laptop?
First make the headphones discoverable as described above, then select them in the computer’s Bluetooth settings. Bose documents these platform paths:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Computer | Bluetooth settings path | What to select |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 | Settings > Bluetooth & devices; turn Bluetooth on, then choose Add device > Bluetooth. | Select the Bose product. If duplicate entries appear, choose the headphones or speaker icon entry, not the one marked LE. |
| Windows 10 | Bluetooth and other device settings; turn Bluetooth on, then choose Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth. | Select the Bose product. If duplicate entries appear, choose the headphones or speaker icon entry, not the LE entry. |
| macOS | Open Bluetooth settings or preferences and turn Bluetooth on if needed. | Choose Pair next to the Bose product. |
| ChromeOS | Open the clock/system menu, choose Bluetooth, and turn it on if needed. | Select the Bose product. |
These steps are listed in Bose’s computer connection instructions. The exact wording can vary slightly by operating-system version.

Do I need the Bose app to pair Bose QuietComfort headphones?
No. You can pair directly through the phone, tablet, or computer’s Bluetooth settings. On supported headphones already set up in the Bose app, an app-based route is also available: select the product, tap Source, choose Bluetooth, then Add New. Confirm the menu names for your model in its Bose support instructions; app-assisted setup is an option, not a prerequisite.
What to know about connecting more than one device
Stored devices, simultaneous connections, and active audio playback are different things. The limits are model-specific:

Why won’t my headphones pair to my device?
- Check Bluetooth and distance. Make sure Bluetooth is on at the phone, tablet, or computer and keep the headphones close. Bose specifies a maximum of 33 feet (10 meters) for QuietComfort Ultra Headphones; obstacles can reduce the range. This distance is specific to Bose’s Ultra Headphones troubleshooting guidance, not a guarantee for every QuietComfort model.
- Select the headphones manually. If they have paired with the source before, open Bluetooth settings and choose them from the paired-device list. If they do not appear, toggle Bluetooth off and on or restart the source device.
- Clear the headphone pairing list and start over. For QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), power on the headphones, then slide and hold the Power/Bluetooth switch toward the Bluetooth symbol for 15 seconds, until you hear the tone. Remove the headphones from the source device’s Bluetooth list, including duplicate LE entries if present, then pair again. Prompt wording and controls may vary by model; see Bose’s model-specific instructions.
- Choose the correct Windows entry. When duplicate entries appear, select the headphone or speaker icon entry rather than the one marked LE.
- Test another source device. Trying another phone, tablet, or computer can help identify whether the issue follows the headphones or the original source.
- Check whether the headphones are charging. Bose says Bluetooth is disabled while QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are charging. Disconnect the charging cable before trying to connect that model. Check your own model’s guide before applying this behavior to other QuietComfort headphones.
If your headphones have different controls or prompts from those described here, identify the exact model and follow its Bose owner guide; Bose’s current support pages cover specific generations rather than establishing one universal procedure for every QuietComfort product.
