To pair your phone again, turn on Bluetooth on the phone, put the Pioneer receiver into its add-device or registration mode, then select the other device and accept the pairing prompt. The exact menu names and confirmation steps depend on your stereo model, so use the steps below as a general guide and check the model-specific manual for its controls.
Pair the phone with the receiver
- Park safely. Use the receiver’s menus only when it is safe to do so. A Pioneer operation manual says to make the Bluetooth connection-menu operation with the vehicle safely parked and the parking brake applied: Pioneer operation manual.
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone. Keep the phone’s Bluetooth settings open so you can see available devices.
- Start device registration on the Pioneer. Open the receiver’s phone or Bluetooth settings and choose the add/register-device option. For example, the FH-X789BT manual uses
BT SETTING>ADD DEVICE; another Pioneer manual also documentsADD DEVICE. Menu labels and controls differ by receiver. - Select the device. Depending on the model’s pairing flow, select your phone from the receiver’s discovered-device list, or select the receiver from the phone’s Bluetooth list. One manual identifies the receiver as
Pioneer BT Unit. - Confirm the pairing prompt. Follow the method shown on your devices. The FH-X789BT procedure asks you to check that the same six-digit number appears on both devices and select “Yes” on the phone. A different manual describes entering
0000as the default PIN for its flow. Neither method applies to every Pioneer receiver.
Some receivers use an M.C. dial and phone-menu controls; touchscreen models may use different menus. Follow the labels in the manual for your exact model rather than treating a representative menu path as universal.

If the phone or receiver does not appear
- Check that Bluetooth is on and that the receiver is actively in its add/register-device search flow.
- If the receiver offers a search-again option, use it. The FH-X789BT manual says: “If the desired device is not in the list, select [RE-SEARCH].”
- If the receiver is missing from the phone’s available-device list, consult the exact model’s manual for its pairing procedure or any visibility setting.
- If the stereo still shows the old phone, use its device list to reconnect or remove that entry only as the manual directs. Reset behavior is not established as identical across Pioneer models, so a reset does not necessarily mean saved pairings were erased.
If the receiver reports that its device list is full
Check the receiver’s device-management instructions before deleting an entry. Capacity varies by model: the FH-X789BT manual reports a limit of three already-paired devices for its procedure, while another Pioneer manual reports ten. Those figures describe the named manuals’ models and should not be applied to other Pioneer stereos.

Check for model-specific connection limits
One Pioneer operation manual cautions against connecting more than one Bluetooth device at once in the circumstances it describes, such as using a phone alongside a separate audio player. Treat this as guidance for that receiver, not a universal Pioneer compatibility rule. For model-specific instructions and manuals, use Pioneer Electronics USA’s model and parts lookup.
