Pack the Switch 2 in a protective case, take only the game cards and small accessories you expect to use, and check the sling’s usable interior against the console-plus-case—not the bag’s advertised capacity. With Joy-Con 2 attached, the console is about 272 mm wide, 166 mm high and 13.9 mm deep, but its controls protrude to a maximum thickness of 30.7 mm. No particular sling is confirmed to fit here: measure your own bag before relying on it.
Measure the sling for the console and its case
Nintendo’s published dimensions for Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 attached are approximately 272 mm wide × 166 mm high × 13.9 mm deep. The maximum thickness is 30.7 mm, measured across the protruding controls. These are console dimensions, not the dimensions of a protected travel loadout. Nintendo’s specifications were published April 2, 2025.

Measure the sling’s usable interior and compare it with the outside dimensions of the console inside the protective case you plan to carry. A bag’s exterior size or stated litre capacity cannot establish that the console will fit: interior shape, zipper openings and dividers can reduce usable room.
- Check that the console-plus-case can enter and lie inside without forcing the zipper or pressing against internal dividers.
- Allow room for the controls and sticks; a flat depth measurement based only on the console’s 13.9 mm body is insufficient.
- Arrange other items so hard edges and loose objects cannot press against the screen or controls.
Because no specific sling’s interior dimensions have been verified here, fit is a measurement check—not a guarantee for any named bag.

Build a compact loadout around what you will use
For a day out, start with the console protected in its case, then add the physical games you are likely to play and only the small items you will actually use. Keep the console with both Joy-Con 2 attached when storing it, as Nintendo’s carrying-case instructions direct. Nintendo also says not to leave the console switched on inside the case.
Using the official carrying case
Nintendo’s Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector is a compact protective option. In a hands-on review, TechRadar reported that it carries the console with Joy-Con 2 attached, six game cards and small accessories such as straps. The reviewer found its small-item compartment limited and said it cannot hold the dock; this capacity description is reviewer-reported, not a Nintendo capacity specification. Read TechRadar’s review.

If you want to carry a controller, camera, dock or more charging gear, plan on a larger bag rather than expecting the compact case to contain the whole kit. The trade-off is straightforward: a minimal setup takes less space, while extra equipment needs more room and organization.

The Switch 2 card slot accepts both Switch 2 and original Nintendo Switch game cards. For a physical-game trip, bring the cards you expect to use rather than filling the bag with your entire collection. The official case has six game-card positions according to TechRadar’s review.

Extra digital-game storage is optional for this kind of loadout. Nintendo lists 256 GB of internal storage, with some space reserved for system use; expansion for Switch 2 games requires a microSD Express card. Ordinary microSD cards cannot expand Switch 2 game storage, though Nintendo says they can be used to view screenshots and videos captured on Switch. Decide whether to bring charging gear
Nintendo estimates Switch 2 battery life at approximately 2–6.5 hours, depending on the game and conditions of use. Charging takes approximately three hours while the console is in sleep mode. These are estimates, so base the decision on your expected time away from power and how long you plan to play, not on a guaranteed runtime. Nintendo’s announcement gives the estimates.

For a short outing, you may not need to carry an adapter. For a long day or a planned stop with access to power, the included Switch 2 AC adapter is the straightforward choice. Nintendo lists two USB-C ports and says the top port can be used for charging. If carrying another adapter, establish that it is compatible rather than assuming any USB-C charger will do.
Check older accessories before packing them
Do not assume accessories from the original Switch will fit or work with Switch 2. Nintendo lists the original Switch dock and several original Joy-Con accessories—including straps, grip, charging grip and wheels—as incompatible with Switch 2 or Joy-Con 2. Some original Switch controllers can pair wirelessly for compatible games, but that does not make the original Joy-Con accessories interchangeable. Check Nintendo’s compatibility list before giving an older accessory space in your sling.
