Use Collections to group Kindle books you want to browse together; use filters, sorting, and search to find a specific title in your wider library. If a book seems missing, first check that the library is showing All items and that no filter is hiding it. Also distinguish a title in your account’s cloud library from one downloaded to the device you are using.
Choose the right way to organize or find a Kindle book
| Tool | Best for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Collections | Grouping titles you want to browse together | Displays books in named groups on a Kindle e-reader. It does not by itself download every grouped book to every device. |
| Filters, sort, and search | Locating a title in your library | Narrows or rearranges the library display; searching by title can help find an item hidden by the current view. |
Amazon’s labels and menus can vary by Kindle model, app version, firmware, and region. The paths below reflect Amazon’s documented instructions; if your screen differs, consult the guide for your specific Kindle model.

Browse and download Kindle Collections on an e-reader
- From the Home screen, open Library.
- Open Sort By in the upper-right corner and choose Collections.
- Open the collection you want. To download its books to this e-reader, open the collection’s menu and choose Download all items.
A collection made on a registered Kindle or on Amazon’s website does not automatically download its books to your other devices. Download the items on the destination e-reader when you need them there. For model-specific instructions, use Amazon’s Kindle user guides.
Use filters, sorting, and search to locate a title
For the Kindle app, Amazon’s documented troubleshooting path is:
#1 Best Overall
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
- Open Library and select All.
- Open Filter and clear any active filters.
- Search for the book by title.
- If it is a recent purchase, use the Sort icon and choose Recent to bring newer items toward the top, then allow the library to refresh.
This is the official app troubleshooting path, not a promise that every Kindle app version or e-reader uses identical labels. See Amazon’s troubleshooting steps for Kindle content not appearing in your library.
Check why a Kindle book is not showing up
If clearing filters and searching does not find the title, work through these checks before assuming it was deleted:

- Check the connection. Make sure the device is online and Airplane mode is off.
- Sync the library. On an e-reader, use Settings > Sync My Kindle or Sync and Check for Items. In the Kindle mobile app, open More > Sync now; Amazon says the last-synced date and time updates when the sync completes.
- Check delivery in your Amazon account. Open Manage Your Content and Devices > Content > Books. If the book is listed but is not on this device, use Deliver or remove from device as appropriate to manage its destination.
- Check the order. If the title is not in your content list, look under Your Orders > Digital Orders to confirm that the digital order completed.
- Refresh and retry. Clear filters and search again. If the issue persists, Amazon also recommends restarting the device and checking for a recent software update.
Amazon’s separate Kindle app sync instructions cover the mobile-app path; the missing-content troubleshooting page covers e-reader sync and account delivery checks.

Know what Kindle sync does—and does not do
Amazon says sync saves reading position, notes, and highlights to its servers for Kindle apps and devices linked to the same account. It is enabled by default and requires an internet connection. That synchronization is separate from downloading a book locally: a title or collection may be associated with your account without all its books being stored on the device you are holding.

- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
Amazon lists these sync settings paths: More > Settings > Sync in phone apps; More in the sidebar, then Settings > Sync on tablets; and More > Settings > Device Options > Sync on e-readers. Amazon warns that turning sync off stops automatic saving and cross-device sharing of reading position. Notes, highlights, or bookmarks made while it is off may be lost when sync is turned back on. See Amazon’s sync Kindle books across devices guidance.

Amazon documents Workspace for Kindle Scribe models released in 2025 or later. A supported Scribe must be registered to an Amazon account and connected to the internet. Workspace provides a folder structure for organizing books and documents alongside notebooks; it is a Scribe-specific alternative, not a replacement for ordinary Kindle Collections on all devices.
