Start by unplugging and sorting your gaming setup, not by buying organizers. Remove cables you no longer use, map the route each remaining cable needs to take, then choose ties, clips, sleeves, or an under-desk tray to suit that route. A practical layout keeps cables behind the monitor, gathers shared runs beneath the desk, and guides them down one desk leg—with enough slack to avoid pulling on connectors.
1. Audit your cables before choosing organizers
Turn off and unplug the equipment before moving connections. Sort the cables into three groups: currently in use, spares you want to keep, and unused or duplicate leads you can put away. An inventory helps you avoid buying organizers for cables that do not need to be on the desk.

For a gaming PC, check the connections for the monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset or speakers, Ethernet, and any accessories that need charging. A desktop may also have several power leads, including GPU power cables. Keep the cables you need, but do not assume they all need to follow the same route. HP’s cable-organization guide recommends sorting first and grouping cables that share a path.

2. Plan a route that stays neat and usable
Choose a main path from the equipment toward the back of the desk, then beneath it and down a desk leg toward the outlet. Keep monitor and peripheral cables together only where they travel in the same direction. Let individual leads branch off near the device they serve rather than forcing them into a bundle that pulls tight.

Leave enough slack for ordinary movement, unplugging, and access to connections. If the desk adjusts in height, move it through its full range before securing the route. Check that nothing catches, stretches, or pulls on a plug. Dell’s cable-management overview also highlights planning the route and considering furniture movement.
3. Choose the organizer for the job
Organizers are useful when they match the cable path and bundle size. You may need only a few clips and reusable ties; a large tray is not a prerequisite for a tidy desk.

| What you need to do | Suitable option | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Hold a power strip and a larger bundle beneath the desk | Under-desk cable tray | Desk clearance, mounting method, usable width, access to plugs, and room for bulky adapters |
| Stop one lead sliding off the desk | Adhesive cable clip | Whether the adhesive suits the surface and whether you often remove the cable |
| Cover several cables that share a route | Cable sleeve | Bundle size and whether cables branch off at different points |
| Gather a bundle you may change later | Reusable hook-and-loop tie | Keep the tie loose enough not to compress the cables |
| Conceal a power strip or extra cord on or near the desk | Cable management box | Whether it fits the plugs and leaves them accessible; the box also takes up space |
Use a tray for a larger under-desk bundle, power strip, or adapters; use a sleeve for cables sharing a run; and use clips to guide individual leads along an edge. Reusable hook-and-loop ties help keep a bundle together while allowing changes. A box can conceal a power strip or spare cord when a tray does not fit the layout. Dell describes tray and box options, while HP and Lenovo cover clips, sleeves, and ties in their respective HP guide and Lenovo guide to organizing gaming cables.

4. Secure cables without making future changes difficult
Bundle only cables that share a route, and use ties loosely. Lenovo warns that overtight cable ties can damage cables. For leads that are hard to identify or likely to be changed, label both ends so you can tell which device or connection they serve later.

Keep plugs and frequently used connections reachable. A neat route should not make it difficult to unplug a headset, move a peripheral, or access the power strip. If a cable needs to move with a device, do not anchor it so tightly that movement strains the connector.
5. Reconnect and check the setup
- Reconnect each cable to its original device and port.
- Check that the display, PC, and peripherals work as expected.
- Move adjustable furniture through its range and move peripherals as you normally would.
- Adjust any route that pulls on a connector, snags, or blocks access to a plug.
Once everything works and the route remains slack where it needs to, secure the final bundle. This is easier to troubleshoot than trying to diagnose a connection problem after hiding every cable at once.

What to consider before replacing the desk
A desk with built-in grommets, channels, or a cable tray may simplify routing, but the placement and included accessories vary by model and package. Compare the features with your actual cable paths, desk clearance, and peripherals before choosing a desk. Lenovo discusses these cable-management features in its guide to gaming desks with cable management. CORSAIR’s Platform Series desk quickstart guide illustrates integrated channels, a wire-management tray, and hook-and-loop ties; it notes that the power-strip accessory is sold separately in some configurations. Check the current specifications and included parts for the exact model and package.
