To organize a month of church services, create a dated YouTube playlist, set its visibility, add the published recordings, and arrange them in the order viewers should watch. But a playlist is an on-demand collection—not a 24/7 live broadcast. If you mean one continuous live watch page, you need a separate livestream workflow that supplies a continuous feed.
Build a clear monthly playlist
- Publish the recordings first. Make sure each service video is uploaded to the church’s YouTube channel and available at the visibility you intend. You can then add the videos to the playlist. YouTube explains playlist creation, visibility, and adding videos in its playlist help.
- Create the playlist. In YouTube or YouTube Studio, create a playlist with a title that identifies both the month and year, such as “Sunday Services — October 2026.” In the description, state the date range and the type of services included.
- Choose visibility deliberately. Set it to public if anyone should be able to view it, or private if it should be limited to the owner. Check this setting before sharing the playlist.
- Add the month’s services. Include the recordings that belong in the archive. Review the selection against the service dates so no intended video is missing.
- Set the viewing order. Reorder the videos chronologically, or use another clear sequence if that better serves the congregation. YouTube supports manual playlist reordering.
- Check it as a viewer. Open the playlist while signed out or in a separate account. Confirm that viewers can see the intended videos, that they appear in the right order, and that titles and thumbnails identify the service dates. This is a practical check, not a YouTube requirement.
Keep the archive useful after the month ends
For a browsable archive, leave the playlist in place and keep its title tied to the month and year. Use the same naming pattern for later months so people can locate older services. If you instead want one rolling playlist for the latest month, update its description and membership as the new month begins; make clear in the description that the contents change over time.

YouTube’s live-streaming guidance also recommends publishing a stream archive for on-demand viewing and creating a live archive playlist to feature on the channel homepage. A completed livestream can therefore become part of the church’s dated archive.

A YouTube playlist collects videos that viewers can select and watch on demand. The playlist instructions do not turn those videos into an unattended 24/7 live feed. YouTube handles playlists and livestreams as separate workflows; its live-streaming guide covers broadcasting.

Choose based on what the congregation needs: a set of individual services that people can find and replay, or one continuous live watch page. A continuous broadcast requires a system that supplies an ongoing audiovisual feed, plus a plan to test and monitor it. Do not assume that arranging the recordings in a playlist is enough to keep a live stream running.
Check music and other rights before sharing or rebroadcasting
Review the rights for everything captured in a service recording, especially music and third-party material, before making it public or rebroadcasting it. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content; a stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even when a church has a licence, YouTube says the rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID. Content ID claims on archived livestreams can be made after the stream ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Licences depend on territory, repertoire, and how the material is used. For example, the Church of England’s guidance describes the CCLI Streaming Licence for live worship music in its context and discusses One Licence for additional church and choral repertoire. It also says commercially available CDs or recordings cannot be played without specific permission. This is UK- and Church of England-specific guidance, not a guarantee that a particular church’s songs or recordings are covered. Confirm permissions for the church, territory, specific works, and use; do not assume a performance licence covers a commercial recording.
Keep playlist titles and descriptions accurate, too. YouTube prohibits playlists whose titles or descriptions mislead viewers about what they contain, as set out in its community guidelines.
