To order through Google Maps, search for the restaurant, open its profile, and look under Overview for Order Online. Choose the available ordering destination, then complete the menu selection, pickup or delivery choice, payment, and support process on that provider’s site. If the button is missing, the restaurant may be closed, have no ordering provider connected to Google, or be in a region or language where the feature is unavailable.
Where to find the Order Online button in Google Maps
Google Maps does not process every restaurant order itself. Instead, a restaurant profile can display an ordering link supplied by a connected provider. Google’s food-ordering help says to open the restaurant in Maps and look under the profile’s Overview section for Order Online.

- Open Google Maps on your phone or at maps.google.com.
- Search for the restaurant by name, or search for a type of food and select a restaurant from the results.
- Open the restaurant’s place profile and confirm that it is the correct location.
- Under Overview, select Order Online when it appears.
- Choose the listed ordering destination and follow its menu and checkout instructions.
The label and layout can differ by region and by the way the restaurant has configured its Google Business Profile. Some profiles show an ordering choice under Order Online; others can show a separate Place an order link. Google documents both arrangements in its Business Profile ordering guidance.

1. Maps identifies a restaurant and its available links
The restaurant profile is the starting point. A visible ordering link means Google has an ordering provider or another configured destination for that profile at that time. It does not mean that every menu item, service area, fee, or delivery window is managed by Google.
#1 Best Overall
- Get thousands of restaurants, convenience stores, pet stores, grocery stores, gifts, and more at your fingertips.
- Easy ordering, order customizations, and real-time tracking
- Pickup, group order, and scheduled delivery options available
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
2. The link sends you to the ordering destination
In Google’s standard documented flow, selecting Order Online redirects you to the provider’s website. Google’s food-ordering help describes the provider site as the place where you browse the menu and submit the order.
3. Review the provider’s current menu and service choices
Before adding items, check that the menu is for the intended location. Then confirm whether the destination offers pickup, delivery, or both; whether your address is inside the service area; and whether the requested time is available. These details are controlled by the destination you reach, not guaranteed by the presence of a Maps link.
4. Check the complete total before submitting
Review item prices, taxes, delivery or service charges, minimum-order rules, tips, discounts, and the final total on the provider’s checkout screen. Google does not describe one universal fee structure or checkout policy for all providers.

5. Save the confirmation
Keep the confirmation email, receipt, order number, or in-app record. If something goes wrong later, the provider’s support team will normally need that information to locate the order.
Ordering with Ask Maps
Google also documents food ordering through Ask Maps, a conversational Maps feature. You can describe what you want, select a restaurant from the results, and choose a third-party app when one is available. Google gives “Order thai food near me for dinner” as an example prompt and also shows a more detailed request for sandwiches for a work lunch for ten people with vegetarian choices. These are examples of prompts, not guarantees that a particular restaurant or cuisine will be offered.
The Ask Maps third-party help page lists limits that can include location, age eligibility, sign-in status, English-language use, and supported app or device combinations. The page currently describes the feature for users in the United States, but availability can change. Do not assume that seeing Ask Maps in the app means food ordering is enabled for your account or location.

- A huge selection fulfilling all your needs - food and more!
- Easy ordering & real-time tracking

- Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
When Ask Maps hands the order to a third-party app, that app takes the payment, is the merchant for the transaction, and handles order status, changes, tracking, and resolution. Google Maps remains the discovery and handoff layer.

No ordering provider is connected to the profile
Google states that a restaurant needs at least one available ordering provider on Google for food ordering to appear. Its help gives the direct rule: “If you don’t find ‘Order Online,’ the restaurant doesn’t have an available ordering provider on Google.” Read the full explanation in Google Food Ordering Help.
This statement is about the Google listing, not about the restaurant’s entire business. A restaurant can still accept telephone, website, walk-in, or another delivery service order even when Maps shows no ordering button.
The restaurant is closed
Google says the ordering button may not be available while the restaurant is closed. Check the profile’s displayed hours, including the day and time zone shown for that location. If it is outside operating hours, try again when the restaurant is open. A restaurant’s posted hours can also be temporarily changed, so the provider’s own availability is the final check.
Your country, language, or device is not supported
Google cautions that some ordering features are not available in every country or language. Ask Maps has additional documented account and device limits. A missing option can therefore reflect regional or language availability rather than a problem with your phone.
The link is displayed somewhere else on the profile
Not every profile uses the same layout. Google Business Profile documentation says a restaurant may have third-party links or custom ordering links that appear separately from the main Order Online control. Scroll through the entire profile and inspect action links, the website field, and any Place an order option. See Manage online ordering options for the documented profile arrangements.

The restaurant changed its ordering setup
Businesses can add, change, set a preferred option for pickup or delivery, or remove third-party and custom links in their Business Profile. The choices shown in Maps therefore depend on the restaurant’s current setup. Google’s business documentation says a provider-removal request must be processed by the provider within five business days; that is a business-side process, not a promise that every customer’s listing will update on that exact schedule.
What to do when Google Maps cannot place the order
- Check the hours first. If the profile shows the restaurant as closed, note when it reopens and try the ordering link again then.
- Inspect the complete profile. Look for Place an order, a website button, a menu-area ordering link, or another provider link outside the main Order Online control.
- Open the restaurant’s official website. Look for a current pickup or delivery page. Use the location-specific site when a restaurant has multiple branches.
- Contact the restaurant directly. Ask whether it accepts pickup or delivery orders by phone, through its own site, or through another provider. This confirms current practice instead of relying on an outdated listing.
- Compare the destination’s terms before paying. Check menu availability, service area, estimated time, fees, minimums, and cancellation rules on the site or app that will take the order.
- Keep evidence of the transaction. Save the confirmation and any promised pickup or delivery time so you can reference it if support is needed.
The absence of a Maps button proves only that Google is not showing an available ordering route for that profile at that moment. It does not prove that the restaurant has no pickup or delivery service.
Choosing between the links you find
A profile can present more than one destination. Use the following checks before selecting one.

Who handles payment, changes, late orders, and refunds?
Orders placed on a provider website
For Google’s standard handoff, the provider’s site is where you browse and submit the order. Google’s guidance says to contact that provider directly about an order placed on its website. Google Maps generally cannot edit the provider’s cart, change the delivery address, cancel the order, or issue the provider’s refund.
Use the provider’s order-history page or support channel and provide the order number, restaurant location, account email or phone number, and confirmation time. If the restaurant itself operates the destination, its support route may be the first contact; if another provider operates it, use that provider’s support system.
Orders started through Ask Maps
For Ask Maps third-party ordering, Google says payment is made through the selected third-party app, which is the merchant. The app handles status, changes, tracking, and resolution. Google’s help states: “If you have issues with an order placed on a provider website, contact the order provider directly.” See Discover food ordering with Google and Taking actions within Ask Maps with third-parties.

Menus, dishes, and ordering are separate features
Google Maps can display menu options and individual dishes when information is available. However, Google notes in its dish and menu help that not every dish is added. Seeing a menu or dish photo is therefore not proof that online ordering is enabled, that the item is in stock, or that the displayed price is current.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the ordering destination’s menu as the final authority for what can be purchased. If a dish appears in Maps but not at checkout, ask the restaurant whether it is available or has been renamed, replaced, or limited to a different service period.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Food-ordering offers and country limits
Google documents a separate food-offers feature. Its help currently lists Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico, and the United States as supported countries for the described offers. An offer can redirect you to a provider’s site, where the provider’s terms govern eligibility and redemption. Read those terms before assuming that a discount applies to your location, restaurant, order size, delivery method, or account. Details are in About food ordering offers.
Do not confuse an offer with basic ordering availability. A restaurant may have an Order Online link without an offer, or an offer may be unavailable even though ordering works normally.
A practical pre-check before you submit
- Confirm the restaurant name and physical location, especially when several branches share a name.
- Check whether the restaurant is currently open and whether the selected service is operating.
- Verify pickup versus delivery and enter the correct address or pickup location.
- Read the provider’s current menu, item modifiers, availability notes, and estimated time.
- Review taxes, service charges, delivery fees, tips, minimums, and the final total.
- Read cancellation, substitution, and refund terms before selecting the payment button.
- Save the confirmation number and the provider’s support contact.
Common problems and the fastest response
The button disappeared after you used it before
Recheck the restaurant’s open status and scroll the profile for a separately displayed ordering link. The business may have changed providers or links. If no route returns, use the restaurant’s official channel to ask which ordering method is currently active.

The menu is visible but checkout is unavailable
Menu information and ordering availability are separate. Check the provider’s live opening hours and service schedule. If the provider still shows no order option, contact the restaurant for current availability rather than treating the Maps menu as a live inventory feed.
Your order is late, incorrect, or missing
Use the provider’s order history or support channel first, with your confirmation details ready. For an Ask Maps third-party order, contact the selected app because Google assigns status, changes, tracking, and resolution to that third party.
What restaurant operators can control
Google Business Profile allows restaurants to manage third-party ordering providers and custom ordering links, choose a preferred option for pickup or delivery, and remove a provider. This explains why two restaurants with similar profiles can show different ordering controls. The customer-facing result depends on the business configuration, the provider’s availability, the restaurant’s hours, and regional feature support. Operator documentation is available at Manage online ordering options.
If a listing is wrong, customers can report the issue through Google’s profile tools, but that does not replace contacting the restaurant when you need to place an order immediately. The restaurant or ordering provider is the party that can confirm the current menu and fulfill the transaction.
The shortest reliable method
Search the restaurant in Maps, open its profile, check Overview for Order Online, and follow the listed destination through checkout. If the control is absent, verify hours, inspect the rest of the profile for a separate order link, then use the restaurant’s official website or contact channel. Once an order is submitted, keep the confirmation and direct all delivery, payment, change, cancellation, or refund questions to the provider or third-party app that accepted the order.
