To open the barred gate in Crasorak Kara, the vault in south-eastern Temple Woods, reach the multi-exit chamber, climb onto the rubble, and use Windstep to enter the high opening in the wall. Follow the passage and pull the lever at its end. You do not need a key, and the lever that opens this hidden shortcut is not the one that opens the Vault Overlord’s boss door.
Make sure you are in the right vault
The gate is inside Crasorak Kara, the Dragonkin vault in south-eastern Temple Woods. It is easy to confuse this with Thishepen Kara, a separate vault below the Runecrafting Guild. The Crasorak gate is barred from the approach side, so trying to open it there will not reveal a keyhole or usable switch. The mechanism is reached from inside the vault. Bring Windstep and Air Runes
You need Windstep to reach the opening above the rubble in the multi-exit chamber. Bring the Air Runes required to cast it; without the spell, the route to the lever is out of reach. Food, Clean Water, and healing supplies are sensible to carry because the route includes enemies and traps. Keep some inventory capacity free if you plan to loot along the way.

- Enter Crasorak Kara in south-eastern Temple Woods and proceed into the vault instead of trying to open the barred gate from the entrance side.
- Work through the guardian rooms and the fire and spike trap corridors. One walkthrough describes a room with three ranged Vault Guardian Sentinels before the chamber you need; use cover and keep moving while dealing with their attacks.
- At the chamber with several exits, take the stairs up to the raised section. From the floor, the opening is easy to miss: stand on the broken rubble and look toward the upper wall.
- Cast Windstep and make a running jump through the high gap. Follow the narrow passage through the rubble to its end.
- Interact with the lever in the alcove. The barred gate retracts, opening a route back into the central hall. Loot the sealed room before leaving if you wish.
The official RuneScape: Dragonwilds tutorial places the early adventure in Temple Woods and says E is the usual interact key. Your interaction key may differ if you have changed the game’s controls.

Know which lever you are pulling
Crasorak Kara has another lever near the top of the stairs. That one opens the large door to the Vault Overlord. The lever at the end of the hidden passage instead retracts the bars on the shortcut into the central hall. If you are trying to open the boss door, the hidden alcove lever is not the one you need.

The visible confirmation is the bars retracting, after which you can walk through the new route into the hall. The sealed room can contain loot, but chest contents are not guaranteed: the AllThingsHow walkthrough, updated September 16, 2026, lists Nature Rune, Rune Essence, Vault Shard, Clean Water, and two plans in its described chest. Treat those as reported contents, not a fixed drop table.

A community walkthrough reports that version 0.9.2 fixed a problem in which Crasorak Kara could remain sealed if a player left between lever pulls; it dates that fix to October 21, 2025. That is version-specific history, not a guarantee about every later build. If the bars do not move, check that you interacted with the lever at the end of the hidden passage and that the game registered the interaction.
