Use that model-specific manual for the actual opening procedure, and confirm your machine type in Lenovo Parts Lookup before buying parts. An SSD replacement is documented; the manual’s listing of memory parts does not establish that every configuration has upgradeable RAM or a particular capacity limit.
Use Lenovo’s manual for the bottom-cover procedure
Lenovo’s Hardware Maintenance Manual and parts overview covers the IdeaPad Slim 5a (16″, 11). It includes a “Lower case” procedure as well as general service guidance. The hardware replacement section lists the component-specific procedures.

Follow the manual’s “General guidelines” and “Lower case” sections rather than relying on an opening sequence inferred from a video or another IdeaPad model. The source material available here does not establish screw counts, tool sizes, or pry points, so those details should come from the instructions for your exact model.
Lenovo cautions that “Product illustrations might be slightly different from your product.” The manual also notes that features and accessories can vary by country or region. Check the text and part information against the laptop in front of you.

What the manual lists for replacement
The manual’s replacement topics include the battery pack, M.2 solid-state drive, Wi-Fi card, memory shield or absorbing mylar, memory module, heat sink, fan, speakers, I/O board, touchpad cable, system-board and I/O-board cable, display module, and upper case. Being listed means a service procedure exists; it does not mean every part is a practical consumer upgrade.
Lenovo distinguishes customer-replaceable units (CRUs) from field-replaceable units (FRUs). Some CRUs are designated for self-service and others for optional service. Lenovo describes FRUs as more complicated, recommends trained service technicians for them, and advises customers who choose to replace one to follow the instructions carefully. Check the part classification for your machine before deciding to proceed.

Can you upgrade the SSD?
Lenovo explicitly lists an M.2 solid-state drive as a replacement component, making storage the clearest documented upgrade or replacement option. The manual and parts overview do not establish one SSD form factor or maximum capacity for every configuration of this laptop. Confirm the exact machine type and compatible part or substitution in Lenovo Parts Lookup before ordering; do not assume a drive size or capacity based on the model name alone.

Can you upgrade the RAM?
The maintenance material lists a memory module and memory shielding material, but that alone does not establish that every IdeaPad Slim 5a configuration has a user-accessible, upgradeable memory slot. It also does not specify the amount of soldered memory, supported module type, or maximum capacity for each configuration. Check the installed configuration and machine type in Lenovo Parts Lookup before buying memory or opening the laptop for a RAM change.

Which parts are repairs rather than upgrades?
The battery, Wi-Fi card, cooling parts, speakers, boards, cables, and display assemblies also appear in Lenovo’s replacement topics. These are service or repair possibilities, not evidence that replacing them is a recommended performance upgrade. Consult the manual’s CRU/FRU classification and parts listing for the specific machine; some components are identified only for selected models.
How to verify the exact configuration before ordering
- Identify the laptop’s machine type or serial number from its product information.
- Open Lenovo’s parts overview and Parts Lookup, then search by product name, machine type, or serial number.
- Confirm the listed part number and any Lenovo-listed substitution for that system before purchasing. Do not infer compatibility from a component used in another regional SKU.
- For physical service, open the manual’s “General guidelines” and the procedure for the part you intend to remove; use its CRU/FRU guidance to decide whether the repair is appropriate for you.
How to interpret a disassembly video
LaptopMedia’s model-specific disassembly video, published August 9, 2026, reports a tested configuration with Ryzen AI 7 450, Radeon 860M, 32 GB DDR5-5600 memory, a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and a 16.0-inch 2880 × 1800 120 Hz OLED panel. Those are details of the creator’s test unit, not universal specifications or proof that the same memory and storage options fit every regional machine. Use the Lenovo manual and Parts Lookup for your own laptop.
