There is no single way to open the back of a Cricket phone: the exact make and model determines whether the rear cover lifts off or the phone has a separate SIM tray and sealed back. Find the model first, then follow its official instructions. If the guide does not identify a release point—or the cover resists—stop rather than prying at a seam.
Identify the phone before opening it
“Cricket phone” can refer to different handset designs. Check the model name in the phone’s settings, on its packaging, or on the device label, then find the matching guide. Cricket’s SIM card support page says most smartphones and Moxee hotspots have a SIM slot behind a back panel and battery, while iPhones and some other phones use a slide-out SIM tray. The page advises consulting the instructions supplied with the phone to locate the slot.

A SIM tray is not a back-cover release. Cricket describes using a SIM-tool tip or paper clip for a tray; that does not make either tool appropriate for prying open a rear panel.

How to open a Cricket Icon 2
- Turn the phone off before handling the SIM or opening the phone.
- Find the notch at the bottom-left corner of the rear cover.
- Gently lift the cover at that notch, following Cricket’s Icon 2 Quick Start Guide. Do not transfer this notch location to other models.
- When replacing the cover, align it and firmly snap all four corners into place, as the same guide directs.

Cricket Icon
The Cricket Icon User Guide identifies a bottom-left notch for lifting the cover. If reinstalling its removable battery, align the battery’s gold contacts with the phone’s contacts. Secure the cover tabs when refitting the panel.

LG Stylo 3
The Stylo 3 User Guide says to turn off the device before removing its battery. To refit its cover, align it and press down until it clicks. Follow this model’s guide rather than assuming another phone uses the same release point.
If the back will not open
- Stop if the cover does not release gently at the point named in the matching guide.
- Do not insert a SIM-eject pin or paper clip into the edge seam, and do not pry at an arbitrary point.
- Confirm the model and consult its matching manufacturer or Cricket instructions. Cricket’s BYOD support page also notes that device details and compatibility are specific to the device.
The cited instructions provide model-specific methods, not a universal procedure for phones with an unidentified model or a resistant cover.
