To open the main locked door at Beorcan Stronghold, find both of Beorcan’s Twinned Keys in two underground chests near the entrance. The first is beneath an ice-covered hatch in the chapel-like ruins along the path away from the door. The second is beneath a hatch behind a nearby ruin whose door is locked from the other side; its tunnel leads to a mushroom-covered ladder and a room behind the main door.
Once you have both keys, return to the large entrance and use them on the lock. The walkthrough that documents this route describes the Stronghold door as optional if you are pursuing only Dragon’s Dogma 2’s main story.

What you need to do
Beorcan Stronghold’s prominent locked entrance is not opened by a key found in the surrounding surface ruins. Both required items are in underground chests close to the door. The route is easiest if you treat the locked entrance as your starting landmark and use the frozen Beorcan markers, the right-hand bend in the path, the small ruin locked from the opposite side, and the mushroom-covered ladder to keep your bearings.
- Stand at the large locked door and follow the path away from it.
- At the point where the path bends right, search the chapel-like ruins on the left and break the ice over the first hatch.
- Descend and loot the first chest.
- Near the main entrance, circle behind the nearby ruin whose door is locked from the other side.
- Find the second hatch beside the low wall, descend, pass through the hallway, and climb the ladder with mushrooms.
- Loot the second chest in the room behind the main door, then return to the entrance and use both keys.
The directions below expand each landmark so you do not have to search the entire Stronghold.

Before you enter the ruins
Use the main door as your reference point
Begin at the large locked entrance rather than trying to navigate from a distant map marker. Both underground access points are nearby, and the first route specifically begins by walking away from this door. If you lose your position, return to the entrance and restart from that fixed landmark.
Expect an optional detour
The October 9, 2026 walkthrough from iTechGuides characterizes the Beorcan Stronghold door as optional for players focused only on the main story. That means you can postpone it without treating the locked entrance as a mandatory story gate. If you are exploring the area or want whatever valuable items are beyond the door, collecting the keys is the relevant detour.
Know what the key name does—and does not—tell you
The walkthrough calls the items Beorcan’s Twinned Keys. It does not establish whether the game displays two separately named inventory entries or two copies of one item name. The practical requirement is unchanged: loot both underground chests before attempting the main door.

Find the first Beorcan’s Twinned Key
1. Follow the path away from the locked entrance
With the main door behind you, take the path leading away from it. Do not search directly around the doorway for a visible key chest; the first access point is reached by following the path until it turns.
2. Use the right-hand bend and chapel-like ruins
When the path bends to the right, look to the left for a group of chapel-like ruins. This turn is the first major navigation check. If you continue past the bend without examining the ruins on the left, you have gone beyond the area where the first hatch is described.

3. Find the frozen Beorcan and break the ice
Search among the ruins for a frozen Beorcan marking an ice-covered hatch. The ice is the obstruction: break it to expose the opening. The frozen figure is the visual clue that distinguishes this hatch from ordinary rubble and prevents you from wasting time checking every section of the ruin.
4. Descend and open the chest
After breaking the ice, climb down the ladder beneath the hatch. Follow the short underground access to the chest and loot it. This chest contains one of Beorcan’s Twinned Keys. Once the item is collected, return to the surface and head back toward the main-door area for the second route.
If the chest appears empty, verify that you interacted with the chest rather than only entering the underground space. The two keys are obtained from chests, not picked up from the frozen markers themselves.
Find the second Beorcan’s Twinned Key
1. Identify the nearby locked ruin
Near the large entrance is a smaller ruin with a door that is locked from the opposite side. This is not the main entrance you are trying to open. Use it as a landmark: approach the ruin, then move around it instead of repeatedly trying its locked door.
2. Circle behind it and search beside the low wall
Go behind the small ruin and look beside a low wall for another hatch. A second frozen Beorcan indicates this entrance, just as the frozen marker identified the first route. The hatch is easy to miss if you remain in front of the ruin or focus on its unusable door.

3. Descend into the underground hallway
Open the hatch and climb down. The underground route continues through a hallway. The walkthrough reports an enemy somewhere along this passage, so move through the corridor prepared for a fight rather than assuming the tunnel is a safe transition.

Continue until you reach a ladder covered with mushrooms. This is the decisive landmark for the second route. Climb it to reach the room on the far side of the main entrance.
5. Loot the chest in the room behind the main door
At the top, enter the room behind the large locked door and open the chest. It contains the second key. You do not need to find another surface entrance or open the small ruin’s opposite-side door to complete this route.

Return to the entrance
After collecting the chest from the mushroom-ladder route, go back to the prominent locked door. If you entered the room behind it, retrace the underground route or leave by the available path and use the entrance landmark to orient yourself.
Use both keys on the lock
Interact with the large door once both chests have been looted. The game should accept Beorcan’s Twinned Keys and open the entrance. Because the available walkthrough does not specify whether the inventory shows two separate entries or a doubled quantity, judge your progress by whether both chests have been opened, not by the exact way the item name is displayed.

If the door still does not open
- Return to the first hatch at the chapel-like ruins and confirm that the ice was broken and the chest was actually looted.
- Check behind the small ruin with the opposite-side-locked door and confirm that you opened the second hatch beside the low wall.
- Follow the second tunnel to the mushroom-covered ladder and verify that you opened the chest in the room behind the main entrance.
- Make sure you are interacting with the large Stronghold entrance, not the smaller ruin’s door. The latter is a navigation landmark and is locked from the other side.
- If one key is visible in your inventory but the door remains locked, check the other underground chest; the source material does not establish a shortcut that bypasses collecting both.
How to avoid getting turned around
Keep the two routes separate
The first route is defined by a sequence of surface landmarks: main door, path away from it, right-hand bend, chapel-like ruins, and frozen Beorcan. The second route begins back near the entrance and uses a different chain: small ruin locked from the opposite side, low wall, frozen Beorcan, underground hallway, and mushroom-covered ladder.
Do not expect the two hatches to be in one connected surface structure. They are separate entrances to underground areas, and each leads to its own key chest.
Use the frozen figures as confirmation
Both access points are indicated by a frozen Beorcan. If you find a hatch without that visual marker, you may be looking at a different opening or an unrelated piece of the ruins. The markers are more reliable than trying to infer the route from the appearance of the stonework alone.
Recognize the purpose of the mushroom ladder
The mushroom-covered ladder belongs to the second key route. Finding it confirms that you are in the underground hallway leading to the room behind the main door. It is not part of the first chapel-ruin descent.
What is known about the room beyond the door
The walkthrough describes the items beyond the entrance as valuable, but it does not name the specific rewards. No reliable item list is established here, so do not rely on a claimed weapon, armor piece, quest object, or fixed amount of currency unless you verify it in your own game version.

The same source also does not document a different method for opening the entrance, a replacement key location, or a requirement to complete a separate quest first. The documented solution is to collect the two chest-held keys and use them at the large door.
Should you open Beorcan Stronghold?
If your immediate objective is only the main story, the available walkthrough says this door can be skipped. If you are clearing optional locations, collecting treasure, or already exploring Beorcan Stronghold, the two underground detours are the complete route described for opening it.
There is no stated reward list that would let you calculate an exact gameplay benefit before entering. Decide based on your goal: continue the story and return later, or spend the short exploration detour to access the room now.
