To open an Islamic bank account in Bangladesh, choose a bank and account type, check that you meet its eligibility rules, prepare the required identity and nominee documents, then apply through the bank’s available branch or digital route. Requirements are not identical across banks or products. Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC (IBBPLC) is a useful example: its Mudaraba Savings Account page lists a signed form, accepted identity document, photographs and nominee details, while its e-KYC portal limits online opening through that route to natural persons with a valid NID.
Choose an account that fits how you will use it
Islamic account names describe different contractual arrangements and practical features. At IBBPLC, a Mudaraba Savings Account is described for non-trading customers who want to save and make relatively few transactions. Its Al-Wadeah Current Account is intended for more frequent use and allows unlimited transactions. Compare the rules of the specific product rather than assuming that all Islamic accounts work alike.

| IBBPLC account | Typical use described by the bank | Profit treatment | Published minimum balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mudaraba Savings Account | Savings for non-trading customers with a relatively small number of transactions | Variable profit; provisional payments are made twice yearly, with any adjustment following the annual final calculation | Tk 500 |
| Al-Wadeah Current Account | Frequent transactions; the bank says transactions are unlimited | No profit is paid | Tk 1,000 |
The balances and features above are those listed on IBBPLC’s product pages, accessed in 2026; confirm current terms before applying. The bank’s Mudaraba description bases profit calculation on the lowest balance and includes a withdrawal condition, so ask how withdrawals affect your account’s calculation. A provisional payment is not a fixed or guaranteed rate. Check the bank’s current profit information and charges before deciding.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a personal saver, compare the Mudaraba product’s profit rules and transaction conditions with your likely use. If you need frequent transactions or are applying for a business, check current-account eligibility and terms. IBBPLC’s current account page includes personal and business categories, while its savings page describes eligibility for Bangladeshi nationals aged 18 or older, joint operation, and guardian opening for a minor.

Check eligibility and the correct application form
Before collecting documents, confirm that the selected product accepts your applicant type: individual, joint applicants, minor applying through a guardian, business or organization, or another category. Use the form for that exact product and applicant. IBBPLC’s forms index separates individual, term-deposit, Waqf, organizational, government/semi-government/autonomous and offshore forms; the applicable category and requirements may differ.
For a different Islamic bank, use that bank’s own product and forms pages. IBBPLC’s checklist is an example, not a Bangladesh-wide standard. Al-Arafah Islami Bank, for example, maintains its own forms index, which is another reason not to transfer one bank’s checklist to another.
Rank #2
Prepare the documents for IBBPLC’s Mudaraba Savings Account
IBBPLC’s product page lists the following for this account:
- A completed and signed account-opening form.
- One accepted identity document: NID, valid passport or driving licence.
- Two recent passport-size applicant photographs, attested by an introducer.
- The nominee’s NID and photograph.
- A recent utility bill if your current address differs from the address on your identity document.
The bank may ask for additional documents, and other products or applicant circumstances may require different evidence. Confirm the current checklist with IBBPLC before visiting or submitting an application.
Apply through a route that accepts your situation
Online e-KYC
IBBPLC’s e-KYC portal says this route is for natural persons with a valid NID; it does not establish that every product or applicant can open an account online. The portal outlines account selection, image upload, customer information, KYC details and account creation. It requests a customer photograph, images of the front and back of the NID, and a nominee photograph or NID image.
The portal displays monthly checking-account deposit/withdrawal and deposit-scheme limits, attributing them to Bangladesh Bank guidance. Since Bangladesh Bank’s guidelines index, accessed 7 October 2026, lists March 2026 e-KYC guidance, verify the current applicable limits with the bank or regulator before relying on portal figures.
Branch or paper application
If you do not have a valid NID, are applying for a business or organization, or cannot use the e-KYC route, ask the selected bank which branch or paper process applies. The available material does not establish a universal processing time or that every account type can be opened through every channel.
Confirm the terms before signing
Ask the bank to confirm the details that affect your account and ongoing costs:
Best Value
- Current minimum balance and any opening deposit requirement.
- Applicable charges, including debit card, cheque book, SMS and service fees, plus taxes or duties.
- Withdrawal limits or conditions and whether withdrawals affect profit eligibility or calculation.
- For Mudaraba accounts, the current variable profit information, calculation basis, payment timing and annual adjustment process.
- Any extra verification or documents needed for your applicant type.
IBBPLC’s Mudaraba page refers customers to its schedule of charges, but the account information cited here does not provide a complete current fee schedule. Obtain the latest charges directly from the bank. Bangladesh Bank’s Islamic banking guideline explains principles and deposit modes, but it is supplementary to applicable banking laws and regulations; it does not replace account-specific identity and KYC checks.
