VIZIO’s documented TV search is for finding shows and movies, not for entering website addresses in a general-purpose web browser. To view a website on your TV, open it on a compatible laptop or mobile device and cast or mirror it to a supported VIZIO model, or connect a laptop by HDMI.
Does a VIZIO Smart TV have a web browser?
VIZIO’s current platform descriptions and the manuals cited here document streaming apps, entertainment search, and ways to cast or mirror another device. They do not document a general-purpose browser for opening arbitrary websites on the TV. That is the evidence-based answer for the documented platform generations; it should not be taken as a model-by-model claim about every VIZIO TV ever made. Search for shows, movies, and apps on the TV
On the platform described in VIZIO’s 2023 manual, press Home on the remote or select SmartCast from the inputs list to open the platform. Use its search to discover entertainment; it is not documented as a way to type a website address or perform an open-web search. Menu details may differ on other models and software versions. Show a website from another device
Choose the method that fits the device you want to browse on and the connection features available on your particular TV. Casting a supported app’s content is not necessarily the same as mirroring the entire screen, so use a mirroring option when you need the TV to show a browser window or desktop.

Mirror a laptop browser to the TV
- Check the TV’s model specifications or manual for Chromecast built-in or AirPlay support. VIZIO’s materials do not provide one compatibility list covering every model. VIZIO OS
- Connect the TV and laptop to the network or setup required by the supported mirroring feature, then open the website on the laptop.
- Start the compatible mirroring feature from the laptop and select the VIZIO TV. VIZIO specifically describes mirroring a laptop screen with the Chrome browser on TVs that support Chromecast built-in; the steps and availability can depend on the devices and software versions. If wireless mirroring is unavailable or inconvenient, connect the laptop’s video output to an available TV HDMI input, then select that input on the TV. Confirm the ports and supported video output for your exact devices first; HDMI availability and connections vary by model.

Cast or mirror from a phone or tablet
Use casting when you want to send content from a compatible app. Use screen mirroring when you need the TV to display the device screen, such as a browser page, and both devices support the same mirroring feature. VIZIO documents AirPlay and Chromecast built-in on supported models, but does not establish that every phone, website, app, or TV can mirror in the same way. What the VIZIO mobile app can—and cannot—do
VIZIO describes its mobile app as a tool for TV control, streaming-content search, and casting content. The app page says the phone and TV should be paired on the same Wi-Fi network for control. VIZIO’s 2023 platform manual also describes using a phone keyboard to enter text on supported platform generations. These features can make it easier to search TV entertainment or control the interface, but the cited materials do not say the app launches a general-purpose browser on the TV. - Find the TV’s exact model number and consult its model-specific manual or specifications; do not assume all VIZIO TVs have the same ports or wireless features.
- Confirm whether you need app casting or whole-screen mirroring. They are different capabilities and may have different device requirements.
- For a wired connection, check the laptop’s video output, the TV’s available HDMI input, and the input selected on the TV.
- For wireless methods, confirm that the TV and source device support the same feature. If the manual does not list the feature for your model, do not assume it is available.
VIZIO’s D55x-G1 specifications page illustrates why checking the exact model matters; it is not a universal specification list.
