Chrome does not include a built-in command that turns a pasted, multi-URL list into separate tabs. On desktop, the dependable method is a Chrome Web Store extension: paste one complete URL per line into a multi-URL opener, or use a clipboard opener that detects URLs in copied text. Chrome’s native tab controls remain useful after the tabs are open, but they do not parse a list from your clipboard.
This guide shows how to prepare the list, open it safely, choose between the main extension workflows, handle duplicates and large batches, and troubleshoot links that fail.

The quickest way to open copied links
- Put one complete web address on each line. Use the full
https://form when a domain could be ambiguous. - Install a current, well-reviewed Chrome Web Store extension such as Open Multiple URLs.
- Open the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu, paste the list into its text box, review the entries, and select Open URLs.
- Chrome opens each entry in a new tab. Close unwanted or duplicate tabs from the tab strip.
If the links are already copied, an Open Clipboard URLs-type extension can scan the clipboard instead. Click its toolbar icon, review the URLs it found, and choose its command to open every detected address in a separate tab.

What Chrome can do without an extension
Chrome’s built-in controls cover links and tabs that are already visible. You can right-click a link and open it in a new tab, create tab groups, select several existing tabs, move them, close them, or apply actions to the selected tabs. These features are useful for organizing the result of a bulk open.

They do not provide a documented native workflow for pasting a block of copied URLs and automatically creating one tab per line. A list pasted into the address bar is treated as a search or a single address, not as a batch of independent destinations. That distinction matters: use native Chrome controls for tab management, and use a Web Store extension when the input is a text list or clipboard contents.
Prepare the copied list before opening it
Most bulk-opening errors begin with the text rather than Chrome. A few seconds of cleanup prevents malformed tabs, accidental searches, and unwanted pages.
Use one URL per line
Format the list as plain text, with one complete address on every line:
https://example.com/article-one
https://example.org/docs/start
https://www.example.net/contactDo not separate addresses with commas, semicolons, or spaces on one line unless the extension specifically documents that format. A line containing several addresses may be interpreted as one invalid entry.
Keep the scheme when the address is unclear
Include https:// for ordinary secure web pages. A bare entry such as example.com/page may work in some tools, but a complete URL removes ambiguity. If a copied address begins with another valid scheme, such as http://, preserve it rather than silently changing the destination.
Remove punctuation copied from prose
When links come from an email, document, chat message, or article, punctuation can be attached to the URL. Delete trailing periods, commas, closing parentheses, quotation marks, and brackets unless they are genuinely part of the address. Also remove bullets, numbering, and explanatory words that were copied with the links.

Check line breaks and hidden text
Paste the list into a plain-text editor first if it came from formatted content. Confirm that each address occupies one line and that no blank line contains an instruction or an accidental fragment. A plain-text pass can also reveal spaces inserted in the middle of a long URL.

Repeated URLs will normally create repeated tabs in a basic pasted-list opener. If you need each destination only once, deduplicate the list in a text editor before opening it, or use a clipboard-focused tool whose listing says duplicates are merged automatically.
Method 1: open a pasted list with Open Multiple URLs
Open Multiple URLs is the straightforward choice when you have a prepared list. Its Chrome Web Store listing describes the function this way: “Takes a list of web pages in plain-text format and opens them all in new tabs.”
Step 1: install and inspect the extension
- Open Chrome on your computer and go to the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for Open Multiple URLs and check that the result is the extension you intend to use.
- Read the current rating, recent reviews, publisher information, update date, requested permissions, and privacy disclosure before selecting Add to Chrome.
- Confirm the installation in Chrome’s permission dialog.
Store listings, permissions, and availability can change. Treat the information shown at installation time as the relevant version of the tool, rather than assuming that an older review describes the current release.
Step 2: open the extension
- Select the Extensions icon in Chrome’s toolbar.
- Choose Open Multiple URLs. Pin it if you expect to use it often.
- Wait for its input window or page to load before pasting.
Step 3: paste and review
- Copy your cleaned list.
- Paste it into the extension’s text area.
- Scroll through the entries and check the first and last lines, plus any URL that looked unusual in the source material.
- Remove blank lines, punctuation, tracking fragments you do not need, or destinations you did not intend to open.
Step 4: open the tabs
Select Open URLs or the equivalent open command shown by the extension. Chrome creates a new tab for each accepted line. Depending on Chrome’s current tab behavior and your settings, the new tabs may open in the current window or another window; the extension listing’s core promise is one new tab per web page.
Step 5: organize the result
Use Chrome’s tab strip to close mistakes. You can select related tabs, create a tab group, move the group to another window, or bookmark the set after verifying that the pages loaded. If one page is slow or blocked, leave it to load while you inspect the others instead of repeatedly clicking the open command.

Method 2: open links already in the clipboard
A clipboard opener is more convenient when the copied material includes prose, HTML, or links in a format you do not want to clean manually. An extension such as Open Clipboard URLs is designed to find URLs in the clipboard and present them for review. Its listing states: “Open each URL found in the clipboard in its own tab.”
Step 1: copy the source material
Select the links or the surrounding text and copy it normally. You do not have to isolate each URL first if the extension supports URL detection in mixed clipboard text.
Step 2: open the clipboard tool
- Select Chrome’s Extensions icon and choose Open Clipboard URLs.
- Allow the tool to read the current clipboard only if that action matches the permission and privacy information you reviewed.
- Wait for the detected-URL list to appear.
Step 3: review detection results
Check that every detected address belongs in the batch. Remove advertisements, navigation links, tracking destinations, or URLs that were present in the copied page but not part of your task. The listing says duplicates are merged automatically. It also says a warning appears when many URLs are found, giving you a chance to stop before Chrome creates a very large number of tabs.

Choose the command to open all detected URLs in separate tabs. If the tool offers individual checkboxes, deselect anything unnecessary before confirming. Afterward, use tab groups or bookmarks to retain the useful set.
Method 3: use a bulk opener for saved lists and page links
Bulk URL Opener is the better fit for a more involved workflow. Its listing describes features for saved lists, extracting addresses from clipboard text or HTML, collecting URLs from current tabs, and selecting links directly on a page. It also describes opening every URL in a new tab with the first new tab active.
Choose this option when your input is more than a plain list
- Saved lists: Keep a recurring set of addresses for a project or routine.
- Clipboard text or HTML: Extract URLs from copied formatted content instead of cleaning every line by hand.
- Current tabs: Collect addresses from tabs that are already open.
- Page-link selection: Select links on a page rather than opening every link indiscriminately.
These extra capabilities can require broader permissions than a simple text-area opener. Compare the requested permissions and privacy disclosure with the feature you actually need, and avoid granting access that is unnecessary for your workflow.

How to handle a large batch without losing control
Opening many tabs at once consumes memory, network connections, and attention. Even when an extension accepts the list, a browser or extension may warn about volume. A controlled process is safer than repeatedly opening the entire list.
- Keep the original list unchanged as a backup.
- Remove duplicates and obvious invalid lines.
- Split the list into smaller groups, such as by project, domain, or a manageable number of entries.
- Open the first group and wait for Chrome to finish creating the tabs.
- Check whether pages load normally and whether your computer remains responsive.
- Continue with the next group only after closing tabs you no longer need.
A warning is a signal to reduce the batch, not something to dismiss automatically. If a site requires sign-in, rate-limits requests, or displays a confirmation screen, opening hundreds of tabs can create a poor result even when the extension works exactly as designed.
Troubleshoot links that do not open correctly
A line opens as a search instead of a page
Check that the line is a complete URL, preferably beginning with https://. Remove leading bullets, numbering, quotation marks, and trailing punctuation. If the address contains spaces, compare it with the original source; spaces may indicate that the URL was wrapped or copied incorrectly.
Several addresses become one tab
Return to the one-per-line format for a pasted-list tool. Put each complete URL on its own line and remove separators or explanatory text. A clipboard detector may handle mixed text, but a plain-text opener generally expects separate entries.

Deduplicate the list before pasting, or use a clipboard tool whose listing says duplicates are merged automatically. Also check whether the source itself contains both a canonical URL and a tracking variation of the same page; those are different strings even when they lead to similar content.
The extension finds no URLs
Copy the source again, then reopen the extension. Confirm that the clipboard contains actual text rather than an image or an application-specific object. For a pasted-list tool, paste directly into its text area instead of relying on clipboard detection.
Chrome warns about too many tabs
Cancel the operation and divide the list into smaller groups. Close existing tabs you do not need, then retry. If the extension displays a count, compare it with your expected number; an unexpectedly high count can indicate that navigation links or tracking URLs were detected from surrounding text.
A tab opens but the page is unavailable
Test the same URL in a normal tab. If it fails there too, the destination may be offline, require authentication, block your region, or have moved. If it works when opened manually but not in the batch, inspect punctuation, encoding, and any extra characters on that line.
The extension button is missing
Select Chrome’s Extensions icon and check whether the extension is installed but unpinned. If it is absent, verify that you are using the same Chrome profile in which it was installed and that your organization has not disabled extensions.
Privacy and security checks
A bulk opener handles destinations you may not want exposed unnecessarily. Before installing one, read its current Chrome Web Store permissions and privacy disclosure. A simple pasted-list tool may need access to its own input page, while a clipboard detector needs a way to read clipboard contents. A tool that extracts links from pages or current tabs may request broader tab or page access.
- Install only from the official Chrome Web Store listing.
- Check the publisher, recent update date, reviews, permissions, and privacy practices.
- Do not paste passwords, private messages, access tokens, or confidential documents into an extension text area.
- Review detected URLs before opening them; a copied page can contain links you did not intend to visit.
- Remove the extension later if you no longer need its permissions.
Permissions and disclosures can change with updates, so repeat this check when the extension changes substantially or when Chrome presents a new permission request.
Desktop and mobile limitations

Google’s help material covers Android tab management, but the available information does not establish equivalent support for installing and running these extensions on mobile Chrome.
