Keep the music stream public and make participation the perk: YouTube lets a public livestream use members-only chat, so anyone can listen while paying members get a dedicated place to join the conversation. Build the rest of the offer around benefits you can deliver reliably, such as badges, emoji, member recognition and occasional members-only content. Before promising any music access, confirm that your rights cover the livestream and any archive.
Choose perks that suit a continuous music stream
YouTube channel memberships are recurring monthly payments for members-only perks. For a 24/7 music channel, the most sustainable offers are usually platform-native recognition and participation benefits, rather than promises of exclusive music or labor-intensive personal rewards.

- Recognition: custom loyalty badges and emoji, plus acknowledgment through YouTube’s member recognition features.
- Participation: members-only chat on the public stream or a predictable member chat event.
- Updates: members-only posts about the channel, programming or planned changes.
- Occasional exclusive content: a members-only livestream or video, provided it uses content you have the rights to share in that format.
YouTube advises creators to consider whether they can deliver perks to members’ satisfaction and how much time or cost each benefit takes. A perk that is easy to provide consistently is a better foundation than a high-effort promise that becomes difficult to maintain.
Design a simple membership ladder
YouTube allows up to six membership levels. Each level must offer one to five perks; when a channel has multiple levels, higher levels include the perks of lower ones. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live, and its Help guidance says that review takes about a day. Check the current setup and rules in YouTube Studio before publishing.

These are example structures, not YouTube-mandated tiers. You do not need to use all six levels. Keep each level’s promise easy to explain, and assess whether it restricts chat or the stream itself, how often it needs your time, and whether rights cover any member-only music and replay.
Keep public listening open while making chat a perk
If discovery and broad listening are central to the channel, leave the continuous stream public. YouTube supports members-only chat on a public livestream: everyone can watch and listen, but only channel members can post in the chat. That distinction lets you offer a participation benefit without making the music broadcast itself exclusive.

You can also use YouTube’s member recognition shelf and milestone chats to acknowledge members without promising personalized work. YouTube’s guidance says milestone chats become available from a member’s second consecutive month. Its listed badge milestones are new, 1 month, 2 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years and 5 years.

Set up and promote the offer
- Plan the deliverables. Write down each perk, who receives it, how often it appears and what work it requires. Avoid benefits that depend on an uncertain schedule or unlimited personal attention.
- Create levels in YouTube Studio. Add one to five perks to each level, keeping in mind that higher levels include lower-level perks. Confirm the current interface and policy requirements there.
- Allow for review. YouTube says level and perk review takes about a day; wait for approval before advertising the offer as available.
- Explain the offer in the membership window. Make clear whether listeners are buying recognition, chat participation, posts or occasional exclusive programming. An intro video in the membership window can explain the levels and their actual benefits.
- Share your join link. YouTube says the channel URL followed by
/joincan be placed in descriptions, cards, end screens, community posts and other social channels. - Review performance and workload. Use YouTube Studio’s level, acquisition and retention data to see how viewers use the tiers, then adjust benefits you cannot sustain.
Gifted memberships
On channels with gifting enabled, eligible viewers may be able to purchase gifted memberships during livestreams or Premieres, giving recipients access to perks for one month. Eligibility, availability and the price level are subject to YouTube’s current feature rules. Verify the settings in Studio rather than promising that every viewer can gift or receive a membership.

Check music rights before offering exclusive access
Membership settings do not grant music rights. YouTube’s livestream terms say the creator represents and warrants that they have the rights needed for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also cover archived live content. Confirm that your licenses cover the planned territories, continuous livestreaming and any archive or replay; the terms alone do not establish that a particular music source or license is sufficient.
YouTube’s membership policy applies to perks whether they are listed in the membership window or provided another way. It prohibits downloads of content available on YouTube, including music. Do not offer downloadable copies of YouTube music, or promise an exclusive listening archive, until you have checked the relevant rights and platform rules.
