WhatsApp’s official sticker-management instructions do not document a control that mutes audio for an individual sticker pack. Before changing sticker settings, determine whether you are hearing a notification alert or sound attached to moving media. WhatsApp documents notification controls separately, while its 2025 announcement says Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android can contain both movement and sound.
What you can and cannot mute
Sticker packs and notification alerts are controlled in different parts of WhatsApp. The official sticker instructions explain how to find, add, update, reorder and remove packs, but they do not describe a per-pack sound switch. The notification instructions cover incoming-message and call sounds, alert tones and muting a chat’s notifications; they do not say that those settings selectively silence audio inside sticker content.

This does not establish that every current app build, platform or third-party context behaves identically. Identify the sound before changing settings
A short diagnosis prevents you from disabling the wrong type of sound. Ask when the sound occurs and what appears on screen at that moment.

Test whether it is an alert
If the sound happens when a new message arrives, while the chat is closed or while you are not actively viewing the item, treat it as a notification first. Open WhatsApp’s notification settings and check the relevant message or call sound controls. If the alert still sounds, inspect the operating system’s notification settings because device settings can override WhatsApp’s choices.
Test whether it is media playback
If the sound starts only when you open, play or view a moving item, it is not behaving like an incoming-message alert. Notification muting is therefore unlikely to be the selective fix you want. Identify the item’s format and test it separately from ordinary stickers.
Check the platform and app build
Record whether you are using WhatsApp on Android, iPhone, the web, Mac or Windows, and note the app version if the behavior is repeatable. The official sticker page exposes platform tabs, but the available material does not establish that every platform implements sticker playback in exactly the same way. Avoid treating a result on one device as proof about all devices.

Manage downloaded sticker packs
You can control which packs are installed and how they appear in the sticker picker. These actions manage the pack library; WhatsApp does not describe them as audio-muting functions.
Open the sticker-management area
- Open a WhatsApp conversation.
- Open the emoji and sticker picker, then switch to stickers.
- Open the sticker-store or pack-management area. WhatsApp’s instructions refer to the collection of downloaded packs as My Stickers; the exact button position can vary by platform and app build.
From this area, review the packs currently installed and the controls offered by your version. If you do not see the same labels, look for the store, manage or downloaded-packs entry inside the sticker picker rather than inside notification settings.
Update a pack
Use the update control shown for a downloaded pack when WhatsApp offers one. Updating can change the stickers available in that pack, but the official instructions do not describe updating as a way to remove or mute an audio track.

Reorder packs
Use the reorder control in My Stickers to change the order in which packs appear in the picker. Reordering affects access and visibility only. It does not provide a sound setting.
Remove a pack
Use the remove or delete option for the pack you no longer want available. Removing a pack is a library-management action. WhatsApp’s instructions do not say that removing a pack mutes audio, deletes media already sent in a conversation or changes notification sounds. Do not rely on removal as an audio fix unless you have verified the result on your own version.
Mute WhatsApp notification sounds
Notification controls are appropriate when the unwanted sound is an alert generated by an incoming message or call. They are not documented as controls for sound that is part of content you are viewing.

Change WhatsApp’s notification settings
- Open WhatsApp’s settings.
- Open Notifications.
- Review the message and call notification options available on your platform, including alert sounds and tones.
- Save or apply the change if your platform presents a confirmation.
Labels and available options can differ between Android, iOS, desktop and web versions. If a setting is missing, use the operating system’s notification controls for the WhatsApp app.
Silence one chat’s notifications
When only one conversation is noisy, use WhatsApp’s chat-notification mute feature for that conversation. This suppresses the chat’s notifications for the duration you select. It does not establish that a sound heard while playing a sticker or moving image will be muted, because the notification help describes the feature in terms of alerts.
Check device-level overrides
Phone and computer notification settings can override or supplement WhatsApp’s own settings. Check the WhatsApp entry in the operating system’s notification controls if an alert continues after you change it in the app. Be careful to distinguish notification volume from media volume: changing one may leave the other unchanged.

WhatsApp’s 2025 announcement says that Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android add movement and sound. The same announcement discusses sticker packs separately as expressive characters. If an item looks like a sticker but moves and plays audio, verify whether it is actually a moving photo or another media item before changing pack settings.
Clues that the item is a moving photo
- The item contains a recognizable photograph rather than a drawn or animated sticker character.
- Movement begins when you open or press the item, instead of occurring as a notification tone.
- The sender describes it as a Live Photo on an iPhone or a Motion Photo on an Android device.
- The same sound is present when the item is viewed as media outside the sticker picker.
These clues help classify the item; they are not proof that every moving image with sound uses one of those formats. WhatsApp’s announcement establishes that those formats can carry sound and movement, not that they explain every report of a noisy “sticker.”
A safe diagnostic sequence
- Close the sticker picker and wait for the sound to occur again.
- Note whether the sound begins with an incoming alert or only after you open the item.
- Ask the sender what format they sent, especially if the item is a photograph with motion.
- Try an ordinary static sticker in the same conversation. If only the moving item produces sound, investigate the media format rather than the sticker pack.
- Record your platform and WhatsApp version before reporting the behavior or comparing it with another device.

What sticker-pack removal can realistically do
Removing a pack is useful when you want fewer stickers in the picker, want to reduce clutter or need to stop using a particular collection. It can alter what is available for future messages. The documented instructions do not assign it any audio function, and they do not promise that removal will affect stickers or media already sent by someone else.

Why a universal “all stickers are silent” answer is unsafe
The reviewed official material is sufficient to establish what WhatsApp documents for pack management and notifications, but not to certify the behavior of every current build, third-party pack or client. WhatsApp’s official third-party developer repository explains how sticker collections are packaged for Android and iOS; it does not document audio sticker behavior or a mute setting.
Accordingly, the most accurate wording is narrow: there is no documented per-pack sound toggle in the official sticker-management instructions reviewed here. That is different from claiming that no sticker has ever produced sound in any app version or that a hidden control cannot exist on a particular platform.
