Muting is usually the fastest response to a loud microphone. Blocking is the stronger privacy and invitation control. Reporting is appropriate when behavior may breach the rules; it is not a substitute for a mute if you need immediate silence. You can mute first, then decide whether a report or block is warranted.

Before you start
- Identify the exact game: Black Ops 6, Warzone, Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare, or Call of Duty: Mobile. Their support instructions use different menus.
- Stay in the relevant lobby, match, or recent-player history long enough to select the correct account. Player names can be similar, and a report sent to the wrong account is difficult to correct.
- For a report, choose the closest available reason. Add factual context only where the form provides a details field. Do not select every category simply to increase the report’s weight.
- Do not assume a menu shown on one platform or in one region will have identical wording elsewhere. Activision’s Black Ops 6 communication instructions cited here are from an Australia-region support page, and game updates can change labels.
- A headset, microphone, controller, or other accessory is not required for any of these controls. They are built into the game’s menus.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Mute someone in the pre-game lobby
- Open the pre-game lobby and display the Player List.
- Highlight the player you want to silence.
- Open the player’s actions menu.
- Select Mute.
The cited Black Ops 6 communication guide describes this as a session-level mute. It resets when a new session begins, and the muted player cannot hear your voice either. That two-way effect matters if you still need to communicate with the rest of the squad: use the individual mute rather than assuming only their audio is affected.

Mute during a match
Use the match interface’s player controls to highlight the account and choose Mute. The available prompt can differ by platform, but the guide confirms that muting is also available from the match interface. If the player leaves and later appears in a new session, check the list again because the session mute is not a permanent account setting.
Mute everyone for the next match
In the lobby’s Voice menu, choose Mute All when you want to silence the upcoming match rather than selecting players one at a time. This is useful for a temporary quiet session; it does not replace a persistent block and should not be confused with a conduct report.
Block a player
- From the pre-game lobby, highlight the player and open the player actions.
- Select Block Player and confirm if prompted.
You can reach the same command from a player’s profile opened through the match scoreboard, or from the Social menu. A block restricts communication options and invites between you. If the person is on your Activision Friends List, the block removes that connection; it does not remove the person from the Friends list maintained by your console or PC platform. That distinction explains why a blocked account might still appear in a platform-level friends screen.

To find existing blocks, open Social > Recent > Blocked Players. The guide also lists Settings > Account & Network as a place to manage account and network controls. Select the blocked account and use the available unblock command if you want to restore contact. Unblocking restores the possibility of communication; it does not erase any report previously sent.
Call of Duty: Warzone
Activision documents three reporting routes in Warzone. Use whichever screen is available when the problem occurs. The routes are alternatives, not three required steps.
Report from an active match
- Open the Scoreboard.
- Highlight the player’s name.
- Open View Profile.
- Select Report Player.
- Choose one or more report reasons.
- Submit the report. If offered and appropriate, choose Report & Block Player to block the account at the same time.
Report from the lobby
- Highlight the account in the lobby’s player list.
- Select Report Player.
- Choose the applicable reason or reasons and submit.
Report from Social
- Open Social.
- Find the player under Party & Friends or Recent.
- Select the account and choose Report Player.
- Select the most accurate reasons and use Report & Block Player if you also want to prevent further interaction.
Select only reasons supported by what you observed. A report sends a conduct concern for review; it does not itself mute the player’s microphone for the rest of your current match unless you separately use the game’s mute control. If you only need quiet while finishing the match, mute from the match controls first.

Report one or more players from Options
- Open Options.
- Choose Report Player.
- Select one or more players.
- Choose one or more reasons.
- Use More Details to add an optional message when the field is available. Keep it specific: describe what happened, when it happened, and which selected reason fits.
- Submit with Send Report, or choose Report & Block Player to submit and block together.
A concise description is more useful than speculation. Identify the observable conduct, such as repeated abusive messages or behavior that appeared to be cheating, rather than guessing at the player’s identity or motive.
Block without submitting a report
- Open the Social hub.
- Select the player’s Details.
- Choose Block & Report.
- Select Block Player rather than the report option.
- Confirm the block.
This separate route is useful when you want to stop invitations or communication but do not have a conduct issue to send for review. The label Block & Report is the heading for the choices; selecting Block Player alone does not submit a report.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Open Social > Recent Players.
- Select the player.
- Choose Report Player.
- Select the reason that best describes the behavior and submit.
If the person is already your friend, the cited guide advises removing the account from your Friends list before reporting. That extra step prevents the report flow from treating the account as an existing friend connection. It is a title-specific instruction, so do not assume the same prerequisite exists in every release.
Call of Duty: Mobile
Report a recent Multiplayer player
- Open your profile by selecting your profile picture.
- Open the History tab.
- Select the relevant recent Multiplayer match.
- Tap the exclamation-mark icon.
- Select the player.
- Choose a report type, add information if the form allows it, and submit.
Report a recent Battle Royale player
- Open your profile picture and then History.
- Switch to a recent Battle Royale match.
- Tap the exclamation-mark icon and select the account.
- Choose the report type, enter optional information, and submit.
Report immediately after a match
Mobile also makes reporting available from the Winner’s Circle shown immediately after a match. Select the player, choose the report type, provide optional context, and send it while the result screen is still open. If you leave that screen, use the History route instead.
How to decide between mute and block
Use duration and scope as the practical test. A mute is the narrowest intervention: it solves the immediate audio problem and, in the Black Ops 6 instructions, lasts only for the current session while preventing the other player from hearing you. A block is broader and persistent. It is intended to stop communication and invitations until you remove it. A block is therefore preferable when the issue is repeated contact, unwanted invites, or a player you do not want to encounter socially again.

Where the game offers Report & Block Player, you can combine the review request with the communication restriction. Where it does not, mute or block separately before or after reporting.

What happens after you report someone?
Activision says submitted reports are reviewed and may lead to a warning, suspension, or ban. Those are possible outcomes, not a promise that every report produces a penalty. The reported player may be notified that a report was made and may be told the reason, while the reporter’s identity is not revealed in the cited Modern Warfare guidance.
Activision also says it cannot provide account-specific updates or disclose the action taken against another account because those details are confidential. Do not expect a personal case number, timeline, or confirmation of a ban. If the behavior continues, use the in-game controls again and preserve any information the title allows you to submit rather than confronting the player.
Do not treat a report as a way to obtain revenge or force a particular result. Select the reason that matches what you actually saw, use the optional details field when available, and avoid submitting duplicate reports solely because no immediate response appears. The support guidance does not promise a response time.
Voice-chat moderation is separate from your report
Activision’s Voice Chat Moderation FAQ, dated October 10, 2024, describes a beta system operated by Activision and using the AI-powered ToxMod model from Modulate. The system is intended to identify harmful behavior under the Call of Duty Code of Conduct, not merely isolated keywords, and Activision says player reporting remains important.
The FAQ describes coverage for selected titles, regions, and languages at that time and explicitly says the information can change. It should not be treated as proof that the same rollout or supported-language list applies to every Call of Duty release in 2026. Voice moderation and a player-submitted report are separate processes: one may flag voice behavior automatically, while the other sends your selected complaint for review.
Opt out of in-game voice recording and moderation
If you do not want your in-game voice chat recorded and moderated by that system, disable in-game voice chat in the game’s settings. The exact settings path is title-dependent; look for the voice-chat controls rather than assuming the Black Ops 6 or Warzone menu is identical to another release. Disabling voice chat also means you may not hear or speak to teammates through that channel.

Possible voice penalties
The FAQ says a voice warning or in-game voice-communication penalty does not by itself stop a player from continuing to play. Voice-chat muting penalties are described as temporary and not eligible for appeal. Extreme or repeated offenses may still result in an online suspension under the cited policy. These statements describe the FAQ’s beta overview and should not be read as a guaranteed penalty schedule.

A teammate is noisy but not breaking rules
Mute the player for the current session. In Black Ops 6, use the Player List or match interface; use Mute All from the lobby Voice menu when you want a quiet upcoming match. A report is unnecessary merely because someone’s microphone is distracting if there is no conduct concern.
You do not want invitations or direct communication
Block the account. Unlike the cited session mute, a block remains until you remove it and covers communication and invites. In Black Ops 6, verify or change the block in Social > Recent > Blocked Players. Remember that an Activision block and a console or PC platform friends list are separate systems.
You encounter cheating, threats, harassment, or offensive conduct
Report the player using the route for your title, select the closest reason, and include concise details when a details box is provided. Add a block when the interface offers Report & Block Player and you also want contact stopped. Mute separately if you need immediate relief during the match.
You are unsure whether the behavior violates a rule
Use mute or block for your immediate protection. Report only what you observed and choose the closest available category; avoid exaggerating or selecting unrelated reasons. A report can still be reviewed even when the eventual outcome is no penalty.

Troubleshooting menu differences
- The option is missing: Confirm that you are in the correct context. Warzone exposes reporting from the scoreboard, lobby, and Social, while Modern Warfare uses Social > Recent Players and Modern Warfare II uses Options.
- You cannot find a recent player: Return to the title’s Recent or History area rather than searching only your current party. Mobile uses profile picture > History; Black Ops 6 lists blocked accounts under Social > Recent.
- The wording is different: Look for equivalent labels such as Player Actions, Details, View Profile, or a report icon. Updates, platform layouts, and regional builds can alter prompts.
- You need immediate silence while deciding whether to report: Mute first, then open the report flow. Reporting is a review process and should not be treated as an instant voice filter.
- You blocked someone accidentally: Open the title’s blocked-player management screen and use the unblock command if available. In Black Ops 6, the cited locations are Social > Recent > Blocked Players and Settings > Account & Network.
- You are reporting a friend: Modern Warfare’s cited instructions say to remove the player from your Friends list first. Other titles may expose a direct report action, so follow that title’s screen.
- You expect a response from Activision: The cited guidance says account-specific actions and updates are confidential. Keep using the in-game controls instead of waiting for a personal status message.
- You are worried about retaliation: Activision’s Modern Warfare guidance says the reported player is not told who submitted the report, although they may be told that a report was made and the reason.
