What “download YouTube songs to Apple Music” can mean
There are three different outcomes, and only two can involve Apple Music:

- Offline listening: YouTube Music Premium lets you download music for offline playback in the YouTube Music app. It does not provide portable audio files for Apple Music. Google says the device must reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days to maintain downloads. See YouTube Music’s offline-download instructions.
- Playlist or library transfer: Apple Music can match items from certain music services and add available matches to your Apple Music library. This transfers library entries, not audio files. The available sources and matches can vary.
- Local-file import: Apple Music can add an audio file stored on your device. You must already have the file and the right to use it; importing does not extract a YouTube stream or grant music rights.
How to transfer a playlist or music library
Apple’s transfer feature requires an Apple Music subscription and Sync Library. Its available source services depend on availability for your account and region, so check the list shown in the app rather than assuming YouTube Music will appear.

Follow Apple’s transfer instructions if the label or location differs on your device.
- Check whether the source service you want to transfer from appears in the list. If it is not listed, this Apple feature cannot transfer that service for your account at that time.
- Sign in to the source service, select the playlists or music, and choose Add to Library.
- Review any unmatched music and choose alternatives if Apple offers them. Apple gives you 30 days from the initial transfer to review unmatched items.
Apple matches catalog entries; it does not copy the source audio. Not every video, track, or version will have a match, and some items may not transfer. Google’s playlist-transfer instructions describe bringing playlists into YouTube Music from other services—not exporting YouTube Music audio to Apple Music. Google also notes that changes do not sync between services and that some songs may not be available or matched. See Google’s playlist-transfer guidance.

How to import a local audio file into Apple Music
If you already have a lawful audio file, you can import it into Apple Music on Windows by dragging the file into the app. Apple’s Windows import guide explains the process. Apple’s Mac guide also covers adding local files to the library.
Importing creates a library entry, but the audio file still needs to be available at its stored location. A webpage that plays music may provide only a streaming link, not a downloadable file. Apple’s guidance cautions, “Don’t steal music.”

YouTube Music separately lets users upload personal files to their YouTube Music library; Google lists FLAC, M4A, MP3, OGG, and WMA as supported formats. That upload feature is for YouTube Music, not a way to extract a song from YouTube or import it into Apple Music. See Google’s personal-upload instructions.

If your goal is simply listening without an internet connection, use YouTube Music’s own download control instead of trying to move the music to Apple Music. YouTube Music Premium is required for music downloads. Open a song, playlist, or album in the YouTube Music app and use its download control. Downloads remain for playback in that app, and Google says you must reconnect at least once every 30 days to maintain them. Follow YouTube Music’s instructions for details.

Why a converter is not an official transfer method
YouTube’s Terms of Service restrict downloading or using content except as specifically permitted by the service, with prior written permission from YouTube and, where applicable, rights holders, or as allowed by law. The terms page is dated March 17, 2025. YouTube’s official download instructions cover videos you uploaded yourself; they do not provide a way to download other users’ videos through that feature.
A third-party converter does not make an otherwise unauthorized copy permitted. Use Apple’s service-transfer option for supported library entries, or import a file you are entitled to use.
