To transfer photos from Samsung to iPhone, use Apple’s Move to iOS during iPhone setup if the iPhone is new or has been erased. If the iPhone is already set up and you want to keep its contents, copy the photos to a computer and sync them to the iPhone instead. Apple also supports a direct USB-C connection for eligible devices and importing photos from an SD card with a compatible reader.

Choose a method based on your iPhone’s setup status

Method Best for What it involves
Move to iOS A new or erased iPhone Transfer selected Android content, including camera photos, videos, and photo albums, during iPhone setup.
Direct USB-C connection Compatible Android and iPhone models Connect the phones directly with a compatible cable while using Move to iOS; Android USB settings may need adjustment.
Computer-assisted transfer An iPhone that is already set up, or when Move to iOS is unavailable Copy photo files from Android to a computer, then sync them to the iPhone.
SD card import Photos stored on a memory card or external storage Connect the storage to the iPhone using a compatible reader or adapter and import in Photos.

Apple says using Move to iOS after completing iPhone setup requires erasing the iPhone first. If you do not want to erase it, use the manual computer workflow. Apple’s Move to iOS guide and its manual transfer instructions explain both routes.

Prepare both phones before transferring

  • Connect the Samsung and iPhone to power.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on the Samsung phone.
  • Check that the photos and other selected content will fit in the iPhone’s available storage. Include files stored on an external microSD card in your estimate.
  • If you want to transfer Chrome bookmarks, update Chrome on the Android phone before starting.
  • For a wired transfer, check the connector on each exact phone model and make sure you have a compatible cable or adapter. A Lightning-port iPhone may require a different connection setup than a USB-C iPhone.

Apple gives no numeric transfer-speed or completion-time estimate. It describes a direct USB-C connection as a faster option, but that is not a measured guarantee for every phone or cable.

Transfer photos with Move to iOS during iPhone setup

  1. Turn on the new or erased iPhone and begin its setup.
  2. At the transfer screen, choose From Android. Follow the prompts on the iPhone and Samsung phone to connect them and enter the code shown on the iPhone when asked.
  3. On the Samsung phone, select the content to transfer. Photos, videos, and photo albums are among the available content; the process can also move other selected data.
  4. Keep the Move to iOS app open on the Samsung phone and leave both devices nearby and connected to power. Wait until the progress bar on the iPhone finishes before using either phone.
  5. Complete the remaining iPhone setup after the transfer finishes.

Apple’s current support guide also describes an app-free option, but only for compatible devices running Android 17 or later. It starts during iPhone setup; it is not a general option for all Samsung phones or software versions. See Apple’s eligibility and setup details before relying on it.

Using a USB-C cable

Apple Support says, “Alternatively, you can also use a USB-C cable to directly connect your Android device and your iPhone for a faster transfer.” This applies only when the specific phones and cable support a direct connection. Apple notes that an Android USB-settings prompt may appear and require a settings change before Move to iOS can proceed. Check the ports and connection requirements for both models rather than assuming any USB-C cable will work.

What if Move to iOS gets stuck?

  • Keep the app in front. Do not switch apps on Samsung or answer a call until the iPhone progress bar has completed; either can interrupt the transfer.
  • Check the connection. Keep the phones near each other and connected to power. The iPhone creates a temporary Wi-Fi network for the Move to iOS process.
  • Reduce wireless interruptions. Apple recommends turning off cellular data on Android and disabling settings or features that can affect Wi-Fi switching.
  • Restart and retry. Restart both phones, then begin the transfer again.
  • Check iPhone storage. If the collection does not fit or the transfer stops partway, Apple advises erasing the iPhone and starting over after confirming that the selected content fits.

For the complete troubleshooting sequence, see Apple’s Move to iOS support guide.

Transfer photos manually with a Mac or PC

This is the practical fallback for an iPhone that is already set up or when the automatic transfer cannot be used. Android camera pictures are often stored in the DCIM folder. Copy the image and video files you want from the Samsung phone to a computer, then sync them to the iPhone using Apple’s tool for that computer.

  3. After syncing, open Photos on the iPhone and check that the transferred items are present.

Exact screens vary by computer and software. Apple’s manual Android-to-iPhone transfer instructions cover the computer workflow.

Import photos from an SD card or external storage

If your photos are stored on a Samsung microSD card or another external storage device, you can import them directly into iPhone Photos with a compatible card reader or adapter. Connect the storage device to the iPhone, open Photos, and use its import option to select the images and videos. The connector and supported storage setup depend on the iPhone and reader; Apple describes the process in its iPhone User Guide.
