How to Move Photos from Samsung Gallery to Another Cloud Service (2026 Guide)

The safest method is download, upload, verify, then delete. Samsung Gallery’s direct OneDrive integration ended on September 30, 2026. Your existing files remain in OneDrive, but they no longer appear in the Samsung Gallery view and are not automatically copied to another cloud. To move them, identify where each original is stored, stage the full-resolution files locally, upload a small test batch to your chosen service, check dates and playback, and keep the source until the migration is proven.

What happened to Samsung Gallery and OneDrive?

Samsung’s support notice says, “This feature is ending on September 30, 2026.” Microsoft’s notice says that Samsung Gallery no longer syncs directly with OneDrive from that date. The deadline has now passed.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Ending the link does not erase the OneDrive library. Photos and videos that had already reached OneDrive remain available in the OneDrive app and on the OneDrive website. They simply stop appearing through Samsung Gallery. The change also does not transfer those files to Google Photos, Amazon Photos, or any other provider.

There is no documented, universal one-click cloud-to-cloud migration from Samsung Gallery or OneDrive. The dependable bridge is a local copy: download originals to the phone, a computer, or an external drive, then use the destination service’s supported uploader.

First, find out where each original lives

A Gallery thumbnail is not proof that the full-resolution original is stored on your phone. Some thumbnails represent a cloud-only item. Establish the source before deleting anything.

Check the phone’s local storage

  • Open Samsung Gallery and select a photo or video.
  • Use the item’s details or information view to see its location, file size, and date.
  • Use the device’s file manager to inspect common folders such as DCIM/Camera, Pictures/Screenshots, and Download.
  • Open several older videos and edited images. A file that plays or opens with the phone offline is generally present locally; a thumbnail that fails offline may depend on a cloud copy.

Check OneDrive separately

Open the OneDrive app with the Microsoft account that was linked to Gallery. Browse the camera folder and any folders you created. Select a representative file and use Download. Save the result somewhere you can find again, then open it from local storage. If the OneDrive copy is the only original, treat that download as the source for migration.

Look for existing second backups

Before creating another copy, check whether the same library already exists in Google Photos, a computer backup, or an external drive. Compare a few distinctive files, including an old photo and a long video, rather than relying only on filenames. This prevents you from migrating a partial or lower-quality set.

Choose the destination before downloading everything

Decide which app, devices, storage quota, folder behavior, and deletion rules fit your use. The services below use different workflows; none should be assumed to preserve every Samsung album or metadata field after a manual transfer.

Destination Best fit How files get there Important behavior What to verify
OneDrive You want to keep using Microsoft’s storage and apps Existing files stay in OneDrive; new camera media uses Camera backup in the OneDrive app Camera backup is for new camera-roll media and requires available account quota; it does not move an existing library to another provider Correct Microsoft account, media permission, and remaining quota
Google Photos You want a photo-focused library across Android, iOS, and the web Use Samsung Gallery’s Google Photos integration for selected device folders, or upload local files through Google Photos Backed-up media uses Google Account storage and is stored at original quality; deleting a synced item in either Gallery or Google Photos deletes it from both and from cloud storage Folder selection, account storage, deletion linkage, and how edits appear
Amazon Photos You prefer a folder-based desktop import Put files in a computer folder or external drive, then add that folder in the Windows or macOS desktop app The documented workflow is local-folder upload, not direct Samsung Gallery or OneDrive import; account features can vary by country Folder contents, recurrence setting, file preferences, and upload completion

Do not choose on storage price alone. Compare the account you already have, the devices on which you need access, quota, selected-folder support, deletion coupling, and how much staging and checking you are willing to do. Current plan prices are not part of the documented migration procedures and vary by region.

Prepare a safe staging copy

For a small library, the phone may have enough free space. For a large library, a computer drive or compatible external storage is safer and easier to inspect.

  1. Make room without deleting originals. Check free space on the phone and destination account before downloading. Do not use a “free up space” command yet.
  2. Use full-resolution downloads. In Samsung Gallery, a setting labeled Download originals may be available for linked content, depending on software version and carrier. If it is not available after the integration ended, download selected items from the OneDrive app instead.
  3. Copy to a clearly named folder. On a computer, use a folder such as Samsung-migration-2026-10. Keep subfolders when they represent meaningful albums, but do not assume the destination will recreate them.
  4. Preserve the source during transfer. Copy rather than move. Keep the OneDrive files, phone files, or backup drive untouched until validation is complete.
  5. Record a baseline. Note approximate photo and video counts, the oldest and newest dates, and the names of important albums. Counts help reveal a failed or partial upload.

A USB-C flash drive or portable SSD can provide temporary staging space. It is optional, must be compatible with the phone’s USB-C and file system, and is not itself a cloud backup. A computer with sufficient free disk space works just as well.

Move Samsung Gallery photos to OneDrive after the integration ended

Existing OneDrive items do not need to be moved merely because Gallery sync ended. They remain in OneDrive and can be opened from the OneDrive app or website. If you want OneDrive to keep backing up new Samsung camera photos, configure Camera backup.

Turn on OneDrive Camera backup

  1. Open the OneDrive app on the Samsung phone and sign in.
  2. Open your profile or account menu and choose Camera backup.
  3. Confirm that the selected Microsoft account is the account you intend to use.
  4. Enable Camera backup and grant the requested photo and video permission.
  5. Check the account’s available storage quota. New uploads stop when the quota is exhausted.

This setting backs up new camera-roll media. It does not import an old Samsung Gallery library from another cloud provider, and it does not relocate files already stored in OneDrive.

Use OneDrive as a source for another provider

Open the OneDrive app, select the files or folders you need, choose Download, and save them to local phone storage or a computer. For a large collection, download in batches and label each batch. Then follow the destination-specific procedure below. Avoid deleting the OneDrive copy until the destination has passed verification.

Move photos to Google Photos

Google documents a Samsung Gallery integration that can back up selected device folders. Availability and menu names can vary by Samsung software and Google Photos version, so update both apps and check the Gallery settings on your phone.

Use the Samsung Gallery integration

  1. Open Samsung Gallery and its settings or cloud-sync section.
  2. Choose the Google Photos integration if it is offered, then sign in to the intended Google Account.
  3. Select the device folders to back up. Common choices include Camera, Screenshots, and Download; include other folders deliberately rather than assuming all albums are selected.
  4. Confirm that Google Photos backup is enabled and that the Google Account has enough storage.
  5. Start with a small test folder or a handful of files. Check the result in Google Photos on the web and on another device before selecting the whole library.

Google states that backed-up media uses Google Account storage and is stored at original quality. That does not guarantee that Samsung’s album structure, every timestamp, or every edit will be reproduced exactly.

Understand deletion and edits before enabling sync

Google’s documented behavior is tightly linked: deleting a synced item from Samsung Gallery or Google Photos removes it from both apps and from cloud storage. Test with a disposable image so you understand the relationship before relying on it.

An edit made in Samsung Gallery may appear in Google Photos as an additional item. Edits made on the web or on another device do not overwrite the original local Samsung photo. Keep the original until you have confirmed that this behavior suits your workflow.

Upload staged files manually when integration is unavailable

If the Gallery integration is missing, upload the local staging folder through Google Photos’ upload controls. Keep the phone or computer copy until you have checked representative files, because a manual upload is not a documented guarantee of complete metadata or album preservation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Move photos to Amazon Photos

Amazon’s documented desktop route begins with a local folder or external drive. It does not describe a direct import from Samsung Gallery or a OneDrive cloud library.

  1. Download the Samsung or OneDrive originals to a computer folder or connect the external drive containing them.
  2. Install and open the Amazon Photos desktop app for Windows or macOS, then sign in.
  3. Choose Backup, followed by Add backup folder.
  4. Select the folder or external drive containing the staged files.
  5. Configure recurrence and file preferences as needed, then choose Save.
  6. Leave the computer connected and awake until the initial upload finishes. Check the app’s status rather than assuming that adding a folder completed the transfer.

The cited instructions are from Amazon UK help, so available features and account terms may differ in another country. Confirm the destination’s local interface before starting a large upload. Amazon’s separate Google Takeout instructions apply to a library already in Google Photos; they are not a shortcut from Samsung Gallery or OneDrive.

If your originals are already in Google Photos

Google Takeout can copy eligible Google Photos media to another service. It is useful when Google Photos is the source, not when the only copy is in Samsung Gallery or OneDrive.

Google says the source copy is not deleted, but several categories may not transfer: unsupported file types, Locked Folder content, unsaved creations, items in Trash, and manually edited metadata. Repeating a transfer can create duplicates. After the export, inspect the destination for missing videos, unexpected duplicates, and dates that were changed by the receiving service.

Validate a migration before cleanup

Do not delete Samsung Gallery, OneDrive, or staging files as soon as an uploader reports “complete.” Upload status confirms transmission, not that every item opens correctly or retains the organization you need.

Use a representative test batch

  • Choose older and newer photos, not just recent camera shots.
  • Include long and short videos, portrait images, screenshots, downloads, and files from non-camera albums.
  • Include an edited Samsung photo and its original if both matter to you.
  • Test files with distinctive dates, captions, or names so you can find them quickly.

Check the destination

  • Open every test photo and play each test video from the destination app and, when possible, its web interface.
  • Compare visible dates, orientation, resolution, and file type with the source.
  • Check whether albums or folders were preserved, flattened, or turned into separate destination albums.
  • Compare approximate source and destination counts. A count mismatch is a reason to investigate, not proof by itself of data loss.
  • Confirm that the destination account, not a family member’s or work account, received the files.

Only after the test passes should you process the remaining batches. Keep at least one independent copy until you have checked the entire library and are comfortable with the destination’s deletion and editing behavior.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

What may not transfer exactly?

A manual download and re-upload is a file transfer, not a promise to reproduce Samsung’s internal database. The destination may omit unsupported files, ignore certain metadata, flatten albums, or represent an edit as a new item. The reviewed Samsung and Amazon instructions do not guarantee preservation of every timestamp, album relationship, edit history, motion-photo feature, or other Gallery attribute.

Google’s export guidance explicitly identifies unsupported types, Locked Folder items, unsaved creations, Trash, and manually edited metadata as exclusions or risk areas. Treat those categories as a separate checklist. If a particular caption, location tag, album, or edit is essential, verify it in the test batch before committing the entire library.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Troubleshoot common migration problems

The destination has fewer files than Samsung Gallery

Check whether Gallery was showing cloud-only thumbnails, whether you selected every device folder, and whether the uploader skipped unsupported files. Compare the missing filenames against the OneDrive or local source. Download and upload the missing items separately instead of deleting the source.

Photos appear but videos fail

Confirm that the video opens from the staging folder before uploading. Check the destination’s supported file types and upload status. Re-upload a failed video as an individual file so you can distinguish a source problem from a batch problem.

Dates or albums look wrong

Compare the original file’s details with the destination’s displayed date. Some services use embedded capture time, while others also show upload time. If album structure matters, preserve the source folders and create destination albums manually after the files themselves are verified.

Uploads stop partway through

Check available destination quota, network stability, account sign-in, and the uploader’s error list. Resume in smaller batches and keep a written list of completed folders. Do not start a second full upload until you know whether the service will create duplicates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You deleted a synced item accidentally

Stop further cleanup immediately. Google’s Samsung Gallery integration can delete the item from both apps and cloud storage when it is removed in either place. Check the service’s trash or recovery area, and restore the item before continuing. This is why a separate source copy is important.

The wrong account received the files

Verify the signed-in account in the destination app and browser. If the files are still present in the source, remove the mistaken destination copy only after confirming that the correct account has a complete replacement upload.

Which route should you use?

  • Stay with OneDrive if your existing library is already there and you mainly need future Samsung camera backups. Enable Camera backup and monitor quota; no migration is required for the old OneDrive files.
  • Choose Google Photos if cross-device photo search and selected-folder backup are more important than independent deletion. Test the Samsung integration and understand that deletion is linked between Gallery, Google Photos, and cloud storage.
  • Choose Amazon Photos if you prefer a desktop, folder-based workflow and have enough local staging space. Plan for a download-to-computer step because the documented uploader does not directly import Samsung Gallery or OneDrive.
  • Use Google Takeout only when Google Photos is already the source. It is not a general Samsung Gallery recovery tool and can omit the categories listed in Google’s export guidance.

Whichever route you select, the operational order stays the same: locate originals, stage copies, test a representative batch, verify files and organization, complete the remaining upload, and then decide whether any old copy is safe to remove.
